OH MY STARRRRS there is NOTHING I enjoy more than finding a reactor I already love has never seen Avatar before. It's in my (and many, MANY others) top 5 cartoons of all time, top 3 if we're only looking at cartoons meant to target kids. It's brilliant and perfectly balances goofy wholesome childlike hijinks and deep, heavy topics like war, loss, colonization and oppression. So siked to watch you on this journey

@trevorjrooney there's a couple that get close. The Netflix animated show "Arcane" is brilliant. It only has 1 season so far, but S2 comes out in November. "The Expanse" is another that is amazing. That one takes a little while to get going (like 4 episodes), but then it's just amazing for 6 straight seasons. Best science fiction story I've ever seen.

@trevorjrooney In terms of cartoons, X-Men '97 is incredible so far. For TV shows in general, Breaking Bad is apparently the highest rated on IMDb. If we include the likes of cinema, literature, theater, audio dramas, video games, etc... there are plenty.

Early on, Aang says a lot of things that _sound_ wise, but aren't. He is, after all, only twelve, he doesn't have the life experience necessary to actually back up most of his platitudes yet. "Letting go of fear" is one - it sounds like good advice on its own, but in context, he says it before they explore a booby trapped old ship trapped in ice during summer (in the south pole, at least - note that it's never totally dark in any of the shots in these episodes), just because they're curious. It's a pointless risk, it ends up getting the village attacked when they trip that flare trap, and I bring up the summer thing because the ice might have been weakened just enough to break and topple the ship if the ship received a sudden shock. Like the opening says, he has a lot to learn before he's ready to save anyone.

He may seem foolish, or misguided, but Sokka is the GOAT. He has no bending, and he's not even a mature warrior, but he doesn't hesitate to stand up to the threat from the Fire Nation even though he's totally outmatched - and he doesn't give up even when it goes badly for him. He may display some questionable attitudes, and he's not always right, but he's open to learning, and changing his mind. You will see as the series goes on, in a story dominated by very powerful characters Sokka doesn't flinch, he's always there doing what he can. And he actually has some pretty good ideas.

The bad thing with Avatar, it's that every character whould have been the best character in any other show... But here they are just average character. Best protagonist? A vegan pacifiste traveling for stopping war with a huge burden and genuine happyness and generosity... Best comic relief ? Sokka is your boy... Best love interesting? Katara is awesome, nice, motherly, but her anger is terrible (and Thug Katara is hillarious). Zukko is often mentioned as one of the best antagonist on every show. Hiro is the best mentor you can ask for. And they are not the best characters of the show. 😅

So there's something the "avatar cicle" every time the avatar dies (bcs is a human) he reborns, in another "tribe" as a bender of that tribe, the cicle is if im not wrong WATER, EARTH, FIRE, WIND in that order so this avatar borned beetween air nomads, last avatar born in the fire nation, and past born in earth kinddom and so. Fire nation, after Fire nation born avatar died, basically exterminated air nomads cuz that was the next in the cicle so they wanted to make sure next avatar was death, thatt's why he's "the last airbender"

I usually get annoyed at the comedic relief characters, but even though he was played for laughs, and was completely outclassed in the fight, Sokka's one brave kid! (comedic characters are frequently cowards who only survive by dumb luck, which again - annoying) Definitely won me over with his stand against the Fire Nation.

The name is Sokka. It's pronounced with an Ock-uh. (Not Soak-uh, you baka!) I kid. It sounds natural with your accent, but when people hear Soak-uh, they think of the live action movie--which, for some reason, made a point of intentionally mispronouncing half the names--and cringe. I think that's a memory we're all trying to repress (the memory of having seen the movie, that is). But you should totally watch it when you finish the cartoon. It's funny watching others suffer as much as we have... and then you can perpetuate the cycle by inflicting it on yet more people. Everyone wins!

Some hints to understand Avatar universe: - Being born bender is completely casual, but you must have one fire/water/earth/air-bender ancestor to have the chance to be that kind of bender (and everyone has it). That means benders and non-benders are treated equally in all the world. - A human being can have only one type of bending (with the exception of the avatar), and the countries in that world have only one type of bending each just because there have never been marriages between individuals from different countries. - There is only one avatar, and he/she (the avatar can be both male or female) reincarnates each time in a different country, following a precise cycle: water-->earth-->fire-->air-->water again. This cycle has been going on for millennia. - The avatar is unaware of being the avatar, until the priests of the avatar's cult (they are present in all countries) tell him/her, usually when he/she turns 16. Aang is an exception. - In every life, the avatar initially can use only the bending of the country where he/she is born, and has to learn the other bendings through time - and usually from a master - one at a time, following the cycle. (so Aang, being born airbender, have to learn waterbending first, then earth and then fire.) - The glowing-eyes thing is called 'Avatar State' and, if not controlled, it happens when the avatar is in danger or when he/she experiences strong emotions. During the Avatar state the avatar can access all the experience of all his/hers previous incarnations. - The avatar has a srong connection with the spirits... but you will see it.
