This movie takes its time, which you don’t come by enough in this genre. Tony Todd and Virginia Madsen do an excellent job acting around some frankly bizarre and wild scenes! Ultimately, though, does it live up to the hype it got in our family growing up? Stick around after the reaction for our thoughts and rating of the movie! I always figured that with Helen and Baby Anthony it would be a two birds one stone scenario - a sacrifice to create another story or urban legend to keep his mythos alive, and he'll also be getting back the woman and child that was taken from him

Hey ladies! 👋🏾 The woman in the mural was his lover. He didn't immediately kill Helen cuz she looks like her. His past is more plainly explained in Candyman 2.

The history of Chicago’s Cabrini Green and the actual story of Candyman is very sad and horrifying. Gangs, murders, rape, drugs, etc. Like the one infamous story of “Girl X” where a 9 yr old girl was beaten, rape, and had became mute from roach spray into her mouth. The films crew had to get permission to shoot in the location and did but they had to add some the residents in as extras

How are you, ladies? I just discovered you for the first time and had to see your reaction to this. Helen, in a past life, was Candyman’s interracial lover which is why he didn’t kill her and yes, she was a skeptic, at first, but Candyman brought her through trauma and what it was like to be accused of something she couldn’t do anything about like when he was captured, had his hand sawed off and died by bee stings. This is a classic among horror aficionados. Candyman, besides Blackula, that is a horror icon. I don’t know if you saw the new Candyman, the character Anthony was the baby in the original that Helen rescued from the bonfire that was made to burn Candyman. Anthony I. A past life was Candyman’s son he had with Helen. Both very good and must own. Looking forward to seeing what you react to next. See ya!! - Gene A.

The 2021 version was based off rumors they told that story based off assumption only getting parts of the story correct the movie played on how stories get told && passed around && the truth is twisted just like in the original the 2021 version is trash

When this came out when I was 17 my manager at Burger King was bringing us in front of the mirror to say Candyman. We all chickened out after 3 or 4 times.

EXACTLY. We complained a lot about that but it ended up on the chopping block. How is Metroid Dread?? It looks gorgeous but we hear it's brutal for newcomers to the franchise.

Dread is fuego🔥.it's become my favorite 2D metroid ever. Still haven't beat it yet. I would say its a challenge but brutal is kinda pushing it. Them damn EMMI's though lol

This is what happens when you judge a classic movie through a modernized lense. I watched this version first and actually preferred it over the 2021 version. Not to say the 2021 version was bad, it just felt like a forgettable cashgrab that solely rides off of nostalgia bait. Are parts of this movie dated? Yes. But I guarantee you nobody's even gonna remember the remake in 5 years.

Man oh man… so many things that you both stated that I know was hard to comprehend since the film was ambiguous on certain scenes but remember Candyman talked about his congregation? It was the guys in the bathroom scene where they were the ones killing around, spooking the neighborhood in the name of Candyman since no one in the hood was saying his name, there had to be victims to keep his name alive. Helen was obviously a reincarnation of Candyman’s lover that’s why he didn’t slash her the usual way as he wanted her to be immortal like him to be together for eternity hence the paintings in the wall. I know you both appreciated the new one more than the original but I do think the original set the standard of the story and the 2021 literally ruined the continuity of the story with Sherman Fields and eliminating the original Peele script with Helen coni thing her told as the new Candyman like the ending of 1992. Just my thoughts as a big Candyman fan… thank you for the content

19:16 My guess is that it depends on the situation, that when it's a casual 'look at me I'm smart and cool and brave I'm gonna call him in my bathroom mirror' disrepectful idiot calling him then he shows up and just slices them there and then, but that when it's people like her trying to convince large groups of people that he doesn't exist and that nothing will happen if they call him then he has to put the extra work in and terrorise them first (makes sense I guess, no one came to his aid when he died so now he makes sure that no one will come to his victims aid either - drive everyone away so that no matter how far they try to run from him they'll only have him to run to).

Remake/Spiritual Sequel is a piece of shit!!! It destroyed the lore and the characters. It was overly heavy-handed and being that the original is my absolute FAVORITE film ever I took great offense to that movie and i love Jordan Peele, Nia Dacosta, and the cast but they messed up what could've been a great movie.
