As the first James Bond movie, "Dr. No" didn't have the huge budget of the later Bond movies. They had to see how it would go, and when it went very, very well, the later movies had much bigger budgets. Sean Connery will always be the ultimate James Bond, even though he didn't really like the role, he thought it was limiting. Ursula Andress was also the original Bond Girl, and set the standard for exotic beauty and vulnerability.

After your Goldeneye posting you mentioned you might go 'back' and check out some other Bond flicks, I didn't think you would do it so fast and go right the the beginning, this is so welcomed. And as you said, yes, it is an "evolution" that will happen; each one building and building. "Never on company time" is still one of my favourite Bond lines... just showing his sarcasm/wit and commitment to 'king and country' 😂

23:15 fear not, beautiful Italian lady, I was in the US Navy on submarines! And of course I wear the "silver dolphins" meaning I am "Qualified in Submarines." Our submarines, like those of France and Britain, are nuclear powered! Soapy water will wash contamination off the body. Even just water will work, although soap helps to remove things. The idea is that you are washing off bits of soil and particulate matter that may be radioactive. Of course, this will not help with anything you might have inhaled. 🙂

Penny, this was what I call a primitive version of the James Bond "formula". The movies get more entertaining with each one. There are debates if each is better or worse than the last one, but they are almost all universally fun.

I always loved the way Bond got his signature line "Bond...James Bond" by mimicking Sylvia Trench's introduction "Trench...Sylvia Trench." As for the "shaken, not stirred" preference, there's a scene in "You Only Live Twice" in which someone offers Bond a martini and says "Stirred, not shaken...yes?" and Bond, to be polite, accepts this as correct. In "Casino Royale", a very agitated Bond hastily orders a martini, and when the bartender asks "Shaken, not stirred?" Bond snaps, "Do I look like I give a damn?"

Hi Penny, If you ever want to watch some black and white movies, I'd like to recommend both, "Casablanca" and "It’s a Wonderful Life." 1942 & 1946. "It's a Wonderful Life" is a Christmas movie. One of the best.

Hello Penny! Ha! The spider saying it "enjoyed the night together". I attended university in U.S. and one morning, my friends and I explored a cave. Had to climb down into a crevice to get to the entrance, which was long and so narrow we had to expel all of the air out of our bodies to slip through. Once inside, our flashlights showed it to be beautiful. Colorful stalagmites and stalactites. And the ceiling? Not so beautiful. Wall to wall Black Widow spiders. Hundreds. We chipped rock in our wake hurrying out of there. Ian Fleming (author of the Bond novels) had an estate in Jamaica called "Goldeneye". And Goldfinger is where movie Bond began to hit his stride. All of the elements that would inform the rest of the movies.

Thanks for this enjoyable video. I must say that young people cannot really understand how exotic and wish-fulfilling these movies were. Even the tarantula scene was more terrifying because it was before we were all pseudo experts on everything. I'm afraid you might find some of them a bit of a chore, but "Goldfinger" and "The Spy Who Loved Me" are generally considered the pick of the pre-modern ones. ❤️

I've been thinking about it. Maybe a patreon pole for one or two movies per James bond actor should be adequate. The next guy only had the one, and you are totally right... There are a ton of these. Ones that I've never even heard of. You'd never finish.

If you want to watch them all, I'm with you. The quality can be a bit uneven, but it's a lot of movies, so that's to be expected. When they started this, I'm sure they had no idea they'd end up making so many films and over so many years. As for old films, the oldest film I can recommend for you is "The Wizard of Oz" (1939).

Sean Connery is rather legendary. First for the early Bond roles, but later more diverse characters. Here are three you must watch at some point: "The Rock" with Connery and Nicholas Cage "The Hunt For Red October" with a host of stars " Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" which is the 3rd in the series about Indiana Jones. However watch the first two in the series first.

I hope you'll watch them all. It's a journey not only through the movie techniques and formats through the decades, but also how they adapted the novels from the 50s and 60s cold war to more modern settings and politics. And the big question will be who your favourite Bond is. Mine is (young) Connery. Very conventional. But my second choice is the unpopular George Lazenby. He was Bond in only one movie that wasn't very popular. But I blame the movie, both script and finished product. But it's a very important chapter in James Bond's character development, so don't you dare skip it. Both Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan are good, but way too old when they actually got to play the part. Moore could have worked if he had been chosen from the start instead of Connery. And Brosnan had been perfect when he played Remington Steele in the early 80s. I guess the role was somewhat of an "honour" that the actors had to deserve, but by the time most did they were too old.

Though rather 'tame' by today's standards. At a time of quite rare foreign travel, Bond showed us exotic locations and equally exotic women. Add to that, a 'hidden' world of espionage, and it's little surprise that Bond became an instant hit. ; )

Just finished your video, first one of yours I have seen! You are very beautiful 😍 and have an exotic accent! 😍 I am glad you speak excellent English, as I do not speak Italian hardly at all! 😃 Have you been on a cruise with Costa, the famous Italian cruise line? I want to go with them on a med cruise someday. I am drawn to them because they use the Italian flag rather than a "flag of convenience". 🙂 I have seen every single James Bond movie....you are right, the pacing does get more "modern" with each movie! I hope you will watch more of them, and also Star Trek and Star Wars 🙂

Penny, for many From Russia with Love is the best Bond movie in Sean Connery's era, but for many others Goldfinger is the Everest for Connery as James Bond. From Russia with Love has an Alfred Hitchcock's atmosphere. On the other hand, Goldfinfer is by far the most important movie in the entire franchise because established the formula for the saga. With these movie James Bond became and icon of the popular culture and Connery became a super star. But if you are looking action, you must watch Thunderball or You Only Live Twice.
@charlesmaurer6214
@charlesmaurer6214 15 сағат бұрын
From Russia with Love and Goldfinger are must with major introductions. Don't want to say more for spoilers and I do like Thunderball as well but One per Bond will fail you in understanding. If you must skip, Dalton is the easiest to skip with Lazenby on rewatches. (Lazenby is the least popular Bond but is a critical point in Bond's timeline that is history for the return of Sir Sean, all of Sir Rodger and Timothy Dalton) The fact the two longest running Bonds get knighted should tell you how key they are to all the film industry. Without Bond there would be no giant film stage in the UK (Pinewood Studios) that would be used for things like Star Wars, Close Encounters and many others. The famous 007 stage has been used for many films and even had to be rebuilt do to fire nearly bankrupting a film company responsible. Also Bond would create enormous public outcry when Eon Productions chose to film outside the UK for UK bits when the economics were bad spurring political change in the UK. I won't tell you to watch every film but just that it is a huge disservice to pick a top film here and there with such an ongoing franchise. Goldeneye was the first soft reboot and D. C. a hard reboot starting with the beginning of Bond. BTW there is one bond film that predates the franchise that in B&W covers Casino Royale and why it was not done first was the rights to that lone novel were sold only to be reunited with the franchise decades later with the second generation fully in charge as the original Producers and Ian Fleming (the writer) had by that point all passed. The daughter and step son of the Producer Albert R. Broccoli is now in charge. If you dive deep you will find that Bond is a sort of a family business with many interwoven relationships and at least a few members of the royal family as well. One filling in for M later and an actress in the Moore era are both cousins once in the top 20 list for the crown, the later even taking part in a dangerous stunt herself in a spinning double decker bus. Honestly I would rather you not do Bond at all if you do less than half the Connery era. You can't do a valid book review without reading the book and each movie is like a chapter. Any teacher would fail you for a book report based on single chapters.

Great video! I think many would say that Goldfinger (1965) is the best one or most famous Sean Connery, James Bond movie. 🤔 Also, almost all the female characters in James Bond movie has those unique & funny names on purpose, one name trying to outdo the others, with every movie. Honey Ryder. 🤭 Maybe Pussy Galore takes the price from, Goldfinger movie. 😅 I think Xenia Onatopp would be my pick. 🤫

If you want to be a real stickler, this isn't the absolute first Bond movie. They made a TV movie of the first published James Bond novel Casino Royale before this one (1954), but they changed a lot so it's not worth watching really. This is where the long lived franchise started. Also, they made a Bond parody in 1967 called Casino Royale. And in 2006 they made a "real" Bond movie based on it. And this is when I lost interest in the series. It could have worked if they straight out made a reboot at that point, but instead it was James Bond's first mission even though he was well established and obviously had experience in the organization. It got quite messed up. But then again, they have spent over 50 years with bad adaptations of Ian Fleming's work when trying to fit them into contemporary settings and views. So just watch it as fun entertainment and don't take it as serious as I sometimes do. It's probably much more enjoyable.

Great reaction Penny!! 007 Would play numerous games like Gin Rummy, Craps, Sic Bo, Backgammon and Blackjack, but the most recognisable one of all is Baccarat. 26:39:- Spectre is a criminal organisation. Penny, if you are only watching one movie of each actor that played Bond, may I suggest the following: George Lazenby - 'On Her Majestice's Secret Service', Roger Moore - 'The Spy Who Loved me', Timothy Dalton - 'The Living Daylights', (You already did my favourite Piece Brosnan Bond - 'Golden Eye', and Daniel Craig - 'Casino Royale'. But, if you are going the whole nine yards, then I'm looking forward to more of your content!! Please do 'Aliens (Special Edition) - 1986', 'Equilibrium - 2002' and 'Taken - 2008 (Extended Version)'.

As always a great reaction! “Dr. No” is the first Bond film and deserves much respect, but not among the best (IMHO) . . . for the reasons you mentioned. It does set up Connery’s bond as very charming and sophisticated, but really and brutally deadly too. He’ll charm you with a wink of the eye poolside as he strangles an enemy agent with a towel. You may have chosen the red dress, but the purple really pops!!! Very Advent-esque!!! Best regards! 😉👍
