Fun fact: after the car crash, the narrator (Edward Norton) is pulled from the driver’s side door, even though in his mind, he was in the passenger seat.

Nobody died in the buildings. Tyler explains this to the narrator in the van. It's nighttime... the buildings are minimal staff... janitors, security, maintenance, etc... all members of project mayhem. "We're not killing anyone... we're setting them free"
@Derkosson
@Derkosson 6 ай бұрын
But like the narrator pointed out "Bob's dead". Just because they planned so there would be no death, doesn't mean they weren't any. Any car or pedestrian that might have been in the streets are 100% dead.

Him shooting himself in the end was supposed to be symbolism of him killing his other half and essentially becoming whole again. That's why he didn't die and only Brad did.
@Animebryan2
@Animebryan2 2 жыл бұрын
Actually, when he put the barrel of the gun in his mouth, he aimed it toward the lower part of his left cheek, right around where the left jaw joint is, which isn't immediately fatal, but can be if the bleeding isn't stopped. Although after getting shot there, he shouldn't have been able to talk or move his jaw.

everything in this movie is a metaphor, except for the shot, the shot was a happy coincidence
@oTurkish13x
@oTurkish13x 11 ай бұрын
Basically yea, I don't think he planned of surviving the shot, but him surviving and Tyler being gone has the same effect as the car crash when Tyler left until the narrator figured it out so basically the shock of a 'near life experience' brought him back to reality, twice if you think about it. This has been heavily documented as well throughout the years, the everlasting impact of such an event

Nobody was killed when the buildings blew up because the security guys cleared them out. Bob was the only person who died. If you liked this you will probably also like Twelve Monkeys, directed by Terry Gilliam and starring Bruce Willis.

"The things you own end up owning you." Fun Fact: Author Chuck Palahniuk has stated that he found the film to be an improvement on his novel. Authentic Make-up Fact: During the shooting of the film, Helena Bonham Carter insisted that her make-up artist (Julie Pearce) apply all of her eye makeup with her left hand, because Bonham-Carter felt that Marla was not a person who would be particularly skilled at (or concerned with) correctly applying make-up. Authentic Battle Damage Fact: When The Narrator hits Tyler Durden in the ear, Edward Norton actually did hit Brad Pitt in the ear. He was originally going to fake hit him, but before the scene, David Fincher pulled Norton aside and told him to hit him in the ear. After Norton hit him in the scene, you can see him smiling and laughing while Pitt is hurting and swearing.

@extantsanity
@extantsanity 2 жыл бұрын
@@pulpficti A lot of people on both sides did. The "this is just a referendum on toxic masculinity" take is just as shallow and incomplete. His motivation was to stir dialog about the male experience, because there were no male equivalents to recurring seasonal movies about female bonding (he cites "Joy Luck Club", "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood", "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants", etc.). We constantly portray different male ideals on the silver screen (from jacked Schwarzenegger to witty Bruce Willis), but portraying an ideal is not the same thing as dissecting how men relate to each other and culturally establish the acceptable boundaries of belief and behavior, while talking about what it means to be a man. If an alien species were to judge us based on our movies, they'd think that the only time guys experience any growth is in their teenage years; after "coming of age" stories, we jump straight into action stars and failed dads with no recourse or development.

This movie is such a trip. I’m still bitter that a so-called friend knowing I hate spoilers sent me a harmless-looking post with three sentences and only at the end was it made obvious that those were spoilers for movie endings. I stopped as soon as I recognized one but my eyes had already skimmed “They’re the same person” so it clicked way too early in the movie when I finally watched it tears later. I still had a blast because it's Fincher and it is terrific. But damn she is such a 💩 for that.

39:47 The horror music in this scene is so appropriate, because it would be spooky to see a man fight something invisible on some surveillance footage. You're right it might be crossing over the psychological illness boundaries into the supernatural.

The line and scene cut interruptions to our thought process is one of the most intriguing things about this movie. “Near life experience” pulls your mind from processing that Norton crawls from the drivers seat. This is why many don’t catch the clues thrown in our face. We’re not given time to process the image before something else f’d up happens.

Well, that puts the whole "Give me a big thumb or little thumb, depending on your thumb size" into a new perspective, if you make a fist with that thumb and hit yourself with it. Have you always been a masochist like that, considering you've asked for this on all of your videos? ;) Also, you should go watch the movie Memento. I suspect you would appreciate that one if you're going in blind. In its own way that movie's just as unique and original as Fight Club.

Every scene in which Tyler and The Narrator are interacting, only one person is actually there. So, if The Narrator sees Tyler holding a gun, what's really happening is that The Narrator has the gun, and is imagining himself watching himself, except he doesn't see himself, he see's Tyler.

42:12 I love when the bombs go off and the camera does this earthquake shake thing, and then The Pixies "Where is my Mind" kicks in and it just tops off the scene. Also the way they hold hands and stand there and watch the city skyline crumble. You can feel the old world is crashing and as Tyler intended and a new world is being born. Its just a haunting image. Great cinema!

There are hundreds of messages if you analyze phrase by phrase as I did, the most important one is that you are in peace in life when you overcome the fear to die(the greatest one of everyone) which happens when the narrator edward norton shoot himself and in this moment you don't need a Tyler durden anymore, people who haven't done this in life (99% of population) need to imagine better lifes all the time and cover the unhapinnes with entertainment,drugs, alcohol,tv and so on... All of us have a Tyler durden( something that want to go out from the confort zone) and it will be in us until we overcome our fears in life, I know it is very spiritual, not rational but in my case I think this is true. I did the proof, which is to live several days without internet, cigarretes... in a natural way without anything , only you ,water and natural food and I feel very depressed

This movie is my favourite of all time. I must have seen it dozens of times and it gets more intriguing on every watch. My theory: It’s played for laughs as he describes it, but the narrator’s job is horrific. He’s essentially reducing human life to a formula on a spreadsheet in the name of corporate profit. That’s what gives him insomnia and ultimately breaks his mind. He fractures his personality into distinct characters. Tyler is his rage. Marla is his guilt. Bob is his compassion. There seem to be others but that’s quite the rabbit hole. In fact you can drill down all the way into this story and still find more. I can watch Star Wars fifty times and enjoy that same movie. Fight Club is a new movie on every viewing.

Because the inherent message is so relevant right now. Tyler talked about working the jobs that you hate to buy the shit that you don't need. He's pointing out that working at a job is akin to being a slave to modern society just to spend your hard earned dollars on bullshit you don't need but think you need because that shit is constantly shoved & waved in your face with constant advertisements. Especially in America where the our economy isn't just capitalism, but greedy capitalism, where everything we do, we get constantly "nicked & dimed" for everything. Just look at how much money goes down the drain just to run a car: The base cost between 5k-20k that you're constantly making monthly payments on, Auto Insurance which is required by law now & most insurance companies don't want to serve the purpose that they were created for, DMV fees, which many like Tags are complete BS & extortion, then there maintenance, which is not only overpriced, but many auto repair shops try to scam you with fake procedures like "Brake Light Fluid" and claiming to work on your vehicle if you decide to leave & come back later on, etc. Considering the corruption in Hollyweird (pedophilia, woke narrative, etc.), I'm surprised a movie like this was allowed to be made. Just look at what happened to Stanley Kubrick after making his last movie Eyes Wide Shut. Tried to shed some light on the corruption of the elite, and now he's dead.
