Tyrion gave the lion necklace to Ros when he was in Winterfell in either S1E1 or S1E4 offscreen. The necklace makes an appearance in S1E5 when Theon is with Ros. Great reaction guys! So Catelyn also released Jamie because the Karstark men and the other Northern soldiers were planning to kill him after Karstark's son was killed. Brienne also mentions that "nobody wants to die protecting a Lannister" so the guards would not have intervened against Karstark. What she did was definitely silly but they would most likely lose their leverage either way.
@NovaLena222 жыл бұрын
True. A lot of people seem to miss this point even though it was clearly stated in the last episode. Perhaps it's because so many in the Fandom seem to hate Catelyn regardless of what she does. But her letting Jamie go was much more sensible than not. If Jamie had been killed while he was Robb's prisoner, Tywin would have had Sansa brutally executed and would have unleashed hell on the North.
@keimakatsuragi30402 жыл бұрын
Yeah, releasing him was her only option. She couldn't order Brienne to keep him safe until Robb's return or - as Pudgey suggested - take him to his camp. Poor Catelyn, condemned by everybody for no real reason.

@@steveswafen2528 The episode 9 being a big event situation (in a fair few cases at least) is already out of the bag, or we would have likely removed that. What we are trying to avoid now in that regard is providing specifics or hints as to their nature beyond that. The thing Stannis doesn't understand is that Robert gave him Dragonstone because, historically, when the Targaryens were in power, the heir would be the prince of Dragonstone. As Robert had no children at the time, it was meant to signify Stannis was the heir and he gave their home castle to the younger brother.
@mjbull51562 жыл бұрын
Dragonstone was the harder assignment, though, as Dragonstone's population would have been the Targaryen's smallfolk and banners as it was under Targaryen rule for centuries before Aegon's Conquest of Westeros. Even if Dragonstone was technique prestigious, Stannis is resentful because he always got the dirty work Robert needed done.

Roz wasn't "playing along", she thought she had been captured because of her prior relationship with Tyrion, however Tyrion did play along because it would serve as a diversion to keep Shay off Cersei's radar.

Cat's action was much more reasonable than it initially comes off as. It was the actions of a desperate mother after all. But for me her choice was simple, and it came down to the mood of the Stark bannermen, which had reached boiling points by then. If Jaime was left in their hands for another night, they would've killed him. If Jaime died, there was no chance of seeing her daughter (daughters plural in her mind) ever again. A desperate Hail Mary is still better than no chance at all.

The theme songs are particularly important for scenes coming up in season three, so def take a chance to listen over them :)

The music: the music they played was a variation of the Stark family's music. Each house, and in some cases characters, has a specific theme music that they play at dramatic moments. Starks are my favorite by and large but the Lannister's music is awesome too. Others: Dany/Targ has a few variations, Melisandre, and "the king's".

this end scene is one of my favorites even though we all know the stark boys werent killed but, idk the loyalty Asha shows throughout this series just really sticks with me. Love her.

The Karsytarks would've killed Jaime that night. They had already reached their limit with the death of Rickard Karstark's son. Cat had no choice but to let Jaime get as far away from the Stark camps as phsyically possible. Or her bargaining chip would've been a corpse. She did the right thing.

@jaybird81922 жыл бұрын
When Tyrion said "Pig shit!" He did not literally mean Pig shit! Lol! Remember Bron called the wild fire, "Pig shit" When they discovered it was being made down in the dungeons under the city! Tyrion: "You won't be making it for my sister any longer!" "You'll be making it for me!"

41:00 What mistake did Cat make in S1? Kidnapping Tyrion? How does Catelyn know that Tyrion is innocent when someone she trusts, someone she grew up with and known almost all her life, told her that the dagger that was used in the attempted killing of her son was last in the possession of Tyrion? Remember that you are watching the show from many and opposing view points. The way the audience sees Tyrion is not the way other characters see him. The Starks are completely warranted in mistrusting all the Lannisters, including Tyrion. And being a _"good guy"_ on the _"terrible people"_ 's team, still makes you a bad person if you are committed to serving that team, which Tyrion absolutely is. You say it was a mistake to take Tyrion hostage. Imagine if Catelyn had not done that. Sure, Jaime would have not attacked Ned in the yard, but everything else would have played out exactly the same, and much faster. Ned would have still gotten his head chopped off. The mistake that Catelyn made in S1 was losing Tyrion. As long as she had him as A hostage, The Starks had leverage, which means Ned has more time to live because there is room for negotiation.
@suddenimpulse0302 жыл бұрын
Ned specifically told her not to do anything hasty and to contact him first. What she did is a major reason he ended up dead and her family hostage. Even George Martin has said this in multiple interviews. The last bit of your sentence is something George disagrees with. Look up the keywords on the Thus Spake Martin search engine.
@Mic-Mak2 жыл бұрын
@@suddenimpulse030 Kidnapping Tyrion was a mistake, yes. I'm not arguing that it didn't make things worse. However, I fail to see how it is the fatal error that you and S&P are suggesting when you look at it in hindsight. What sealed Ned's fate is revealing to the Queen that he knows her secret, and Catelyn losing Tyrion, leaving the Starks with no leverage to bargain. Do you really believe that had Catelyn not taken Tyrion hostage, Ned would be alive at the end of S1? Even with Jaime as hostage, Joffrey chose to kill off Ned.
@vergil88332 жыл бұрын
In defence of Catetlyn Stark, the other northerners would have probably killed Jamie before Rob coul get there and stop them. So either Jamie dies and they get nothing for him or they try to send him as a bargaining chip.
@suddenimpulse0302 жыл бұрын
Its incredible how few understand this when the show points it out multiple times. If jaime's death reached the lannisters Sansa and Arya (since the Starks think the lannisters have her) would have faced serious repercussions up to and possibly death.

People always seem to miss that the reason the cat released Jamie is because Rob‘s Bannerman we’re going to kill him. So either way they were going to lose him, she might as well have lost him in an effort to save her daughters.
@sam_c952 жыл бұрын
Recall that when Baelish met Catelyn he brought some terms to her from Tyrion - to trade Jaime for her daughters "both girls" he claimed. He said he fears for their longevity in the capital, and brought Ned's bones as a gesture of goodwill. Catelyn said Robb would never accept but Baelish said he's not bringing the terms to Robb, but to Cat instead (all of which Tyrion expected and planned out). Releasing Jaime was Catelyn accepting Tyrion's deal. She's still been played for a fool - Tyrion called it his "next deception", but it's not just on Jaime's word that Cat made the decision, but on Baelish's and Tyrion's word too, over Ned's bones.

Regarding the "farmer's boys", one of the main themes of this series is how it's always the smallfolk who suffer the most when the nobles play the Game of Thrones.

And the other sees the whole show and how the past is effecting the present and what implications it may have. I’ll let you guys figure which is whom. Brilliant!!! I really love this channel and I admire how quickly you both have kinda jump all in and bought into the entire stories (well the portions of the stories being passed through the ravens in this season of the show). It is starting to get "bigger" from my point of view, and this was the season where the "story" of who is the legitimate heir(s) spread out to the kingdoms and it is getting down to brass tax about who is.supporting who.in the wars to come. You are definitely right to pump the brakes on episodes leading up to episode 9s, so good on ya for that. Also had some great points and observations throughout the comments in the episode; out of fear of accidentally spoiling stuff, I am consciously choosing not to respond a few comments because I want you all to experience this show in the best way possible as I (we) experienced these seasons as they were released in real time. Doing my best to respect that with minimal spoilers. Great stuff Spartan & Pudgey.... you guys would be fan-fkn-tastic to have as a full blown Texas grill and Bar-B-Que..... so.... when in Rome (Texas) you always have about 50lbs. of cooked beef, steaks, chicken, hams, ribs, pork butter, and BBQ brisket to take on your journeys. Love you created this channel and i want you to know that I am trying my best to minimize and moderate comments and spoilers to the show as my 15 - 17 year old Nephew and Niece have every recently also expressed interest to jump on the "bandwagon" that is House Of The Dragon because it's crazy wild popularity...... and these very near FKN..... ADULT people (~1.7 years) before they are both 18 somehow need a moderator to "intercept" spoilers amd "inappropriate content".....HAHAHAHA.... Imagine my surprise. I've got.habe of a mind to misedit everything and let them.feel the full force of the trauma as we all dealt with it. Not sure yet..... guess we'll see. My advice...... maybe they shouldn't have hopped their happy asses on the bandwagon of the month club so fast...... it has consequences......¡ 😈 We'll see how I choose to play it with them. They are only trying to gain "cool points" anyway, so I may just say...... "fuck 'em"
