Another fact is that a lot of the evidence against Tyrion was actually done by him, and during the trial (in the books) he cursed himself for being witty in his answers. He poisons Cersei with some kind of laxative to put her out of power for a little bit, he's a bit more...rougher...with Joffrey, kicking him a bunch while he was on the ground (though he deserved it). Just goes to show how important perception is. Everyone hated Tyrion, even if he didn't deserve it, and we sympathize with him, because we know his thoughts, but no one else does. And from that perspective, he seems pretty shitty.

That was really Tywin's main motivation in going along with the show trial. He didn't kill Joffrey, but in Joffrey's death he saw an opportunity to get Jaime out of King's Landing and have him start a family, aka the conversation they had at the start of the season. He calculated Jaime will fold under pressure to save his brother. It was all going along so smoothly until Tyrion threw a wrench in his plan and now it's going to be an absolute insane whirlwind of a ride.

No spoilers ~ From wikipedia ~ About Peter Dinklage and Tyrion Lannister "Between 2011 and 2019, Dinklage portrayed Tyrion Lannister in HBO's fantasy drama Game of Thrones, an adaptation of author George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels. Game of Thrones takes place on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos and chronicles the power struggles among noble families as they fight for control of the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms. Tyrion is a member of House Lannister, one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in Westeros, and uses his status as a Lannister to mitigate the impact of the marginalization and derision he has received all of his life. In May 2009, he was the first actor to be cast, as showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss noted that Dinklage, whom they described as funny, smart and witty, was their first choice for the role, as the actor's "core of humanity, covered by a shell of sardonic dry wit, is pretty well in keeping with the character." Unfamiliar with the source material, Dinklage was cautious in his first meeting with the producers; as a dwarf, "he wouldn't play elves or leprechauns" and was choosy about genre roles. Benioff and Weiss told Dinklage that the character was "a different kind of fantasy little person," or in the actor's words, "No beard, no pointy shoes, a romantic, real human being." Dinklage signed on to play Tyrion before the meeting was half over, in part because, he said, "They told me how popular he was." Martin said of Dinklage's casting, "If he hadn't accepted the part, oh, boy, I don't know what we would have done." The series proved to be a commercial success; it was renewed for multiple seasons and concluded with its eighth season in May 2019. Dinklage received widespread critical praise for his performance. Matthew Gilbert from The Boston Globe said that Dinklage "gives a winning performance that is charming, morally ambiguous, and self-aware." Dan Kois of The New York Times noted that Dinklage's performance has made the character "all the more popular." The Los Angeles Times wrote "In many ways, Game of Thrones belongs to Dinklage." HuffPost called Tyrion the "most quotable" character and "one of the most beloved characters" of the series. For his performance, he has gone on to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2011, 2015, 2018, and 2019, as well as the 2012 Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor. As a result of his performance and increased screen time, Dinklage was given top billing starting in the series' second season. In 2014, he said on The Late Show with David Letterman that he had once tried to read the books the show is based upon, but had found them confusing. He joked, "George Martin, our author, is probably going to kill my character soon because I mentioned that." In 2014, Dinklage and four of his Game of Thrones co-stars became some of the highest paid actors on television, although sources differ on the actors' per-episode salaries. In 2015, Dinklage lent his voice for the role of Tyrion in Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series, a video game based on the show."

The cast that was put together for this show will always be the best. Peter Dinklage is one of the best actors and this episode stands alone as one of the best because of Tyrion's speech.

just for refreshment: hizdahr and his father were laughing at Dany's freedom speech at the top of the pyramid in episode 3. just because he didn't have a part to play on the death of those children, that does not make him innocent. he was still consuming slavery (selling and buying human beings) and pretty comfortable with that position.

You guys are so fun to watch - keep it up!! One thing that’s interesting to me about Varys’s testimony - everything he’s saying, Tywin had already known.. he was there at the council meeting that Varys was referencing. From what I’d guess, Varys already knows Tywin will have the trial go however he wants it to. So, while he is testifying against Tyrion, he isn’t adding any facts that would hurt Tyrion any more than he already is. I still don’t know if he could have handled it any better, but definitely something that is worth pointing out.

Varys glancing at the throne after his talk with Oberyn is to signal that he's chasing power, not specifically the throne. Varys knows where power comes from in Westeros, the throne is the physical embodiment of that power.

Wargs (Bran Stark) are people with the ability to enter the minds of animals and perceive the world through their senses and even control their actions. Greenseer (Jojen Reed & Bran Stark) is the title given to people who possess the magical ability to perceive future, past or distant events in dreams known as Green Dreams.

The things going on with Varys in the show, with the weird foreshadowing for alternate motives, like pursuing power, rather than what he preaches as the well-being of the realm are so underdeveloped. He supported the Mad-King, and it was said that when he arrived in King's Landing, Aerys became more and more paranoid. Makes me wonder why the showrunners dropped fAegon as a plot point, if these things were set up.

FAegon and Varys intertwine in their arcs. They indeed shouldn't have cut the FAegon part but since the books weren't done yet, it was wise to not include it
@jeffthampuran6054 Жыл бұрын
@@morisakarleign3014 But the thing is, they hint at something ulterior, but never pursue it. Like imagine Jaime was hinted at being a good person, but at the end, he just ends up saying he 'never cared for people, innocent or otherwise'. What would be the point?

That speech at the end.. What a cool character this is. He deserves much more. These games of politics always make people sneaky and evil. People like Tyrion, Varys, sir Barristan should serve at the court of a worthy king. He, like Varys, tries to be a good person for the people and the Realm, so there is a kind of friendship and solidarity between them. And it was ironic to hear him say that he would give his life to have poison for them all.

At 7:30 in the intro, Spartan brings up a good point -- and it's really a huge theme in the entire series. At what point does justice become just raw power or even revenge? How do you rule wisely when your enemies are ruthless and amoral? Do the ends justify the means in terms of what you have to do to stay in power and serve people? All the major characters deal with these questions, with a spray of different results.

Ramsay is so much more dangerous than Joffrey cause he's not scared of showing who he truly is or to do the job himself. The job he did with Theon.. poor "Reek", he was "trained" well. He's so scared he cant even trust his own eyes seeing his own sister before him thinking its another test 😔 And I already loved Tyrion.. but this trial made him one of my favorites in the series by far!!

so a small detail I wanna mention. So when Tyrion demands a trial by means that he has to fight his accuser (Cersei) unless they pick a willing champion so it is Cersei not Tywin that gets to pick who Tyrion or his champion has to fight.

This episode is awesome but it also shows some of the problems with changing stuff from the books. . The Greyjoy sister could never attempt to rescue her brother in the books. Just logistically not possible. She would have liked it if it was possible but she was tied up elsewhere and she would have to sail all around the entire continent lol The series writers jus forgot geography to toy a bit with the viewers. But they still wanted Theon to stay where he is because there is more story coming over there. . SHAE! Shae has been debated to hell and back because the series did change her quite a bit. Book Shae was always pretty obviously a random whore. The book story was more about Tyrion wanting so much to find love that he let himself be fooled with Shae. Together with taking amazing risks for someone who was just a whore. I think the show did not want to make Tyrion look a bit more grey as he is in the books. But Shae was kind of the collateral damage. Maybe the book arc was more predictable too. Because you could see from the start that Shae would be easy to turn against Tyrion. However, series Shae just comes across a bit inconsistent. From wanting to fight to protect Sansa (which she did not in the books) to easily being turned and incriminating both Tyrion and Sansa.......the series kind of forgets that angle big time but Shae would have been incriminating Sansa too.

How did Pycelle get the necklace? Wasn't it on the boat with Littlefinger and Sansa? I LOVED how Tyrion stood up to his father. He knew Tywin was orchestrating things for his own ends, and refused to go along with it anymore. Amazing performance.

Good reaction to a classic episode. One point worth bearing in mind...Varys didn't tell Tywin anything about Tyrion that he didn't already know. Both Tywin and Cersei were present when Tyrion threatened Joffrey in that council meeting so there was no point in Varys denying that it happened. It may seem as though Varys betrayed Tyrion but he didn't really. If he was going to betray Tyrion then he could have offered info that Tywin wasn't aware of already.
