Going off the hours of GRRM interviews/podcast I’ve watched where he’s said the names numerous times, I would’ve written Jorah as [ Jor-rah ] for clarity (he’s not Joe Rogan haha). And while yes, Jeor is spelt [ gee-or ] it’s not supposed to be drawn out. George RR Martin pronounces it as “Jor” like the beginning of Jorah’s name. And that was his entire intent behind the names, it’s a play on the real world father/son naming practice of Jack/Jackson, Will/Wilson, Harris/Harrison etc. So I’ve always heard it as Jor/Jorah. Jorah is literally “son of Jeor” That being said while I myself and GRRM pronounce it that way as Americans, he based the series off the history of the British Isles so I have no clue how they would say it over there. And give the Aussies some slack, it’s a made up name by an American author.

You know the name of Jojen and Meera's father? Howland Reed. And they say his castle moves. It's a reference to Howl's Moving Castle. An old fantasy novel which many might have heard through the Ghibli anime adaptation. It isn't exactly explained how the castle moves, or even if that was true. Like Meera said, little is known about them the Reeds, even with the Northerners. And the ones who dared to find them never returned. But since it's marsh and they live in "floating islands", logically it might meant their "castle" moves with the water. But we couldn't rule out it being really magical, it's still a fantasy series after all.

Robert's Targaryen blood has actually two sources. His claim to the throne is strong because of that royal blood. One: Founder of House Baratheon was Aegon the Conquerer's bastard brother so they already start with Targaryen blood. Two: A Targaryen king's daughter Rhaella married into the house and gave birth to Steffon Baratheon, Robert, Stannis and Renly's father. That was fun, one thing about referring to the brutal violence and reminding us you’re speaking of “this world, “ no need for that. :) Most all of the non-magical bad things that happen in the GoT universe are loosely based on very similar events from “our world.” George RR Martin has said many times that events like the Red Wedding are just reimagined fictional versions of actual real world events from our history. The suspiciously familiar “Black Wedding” was one of those historical events and as GRRM once said in an Entertainment Weekly interview “No matter how much I make up, there’s stuff in history that’s just as bad, or worse.” Another great video, I enjoyed watching all of that stuff again 😃

The Targaryen who died drinking wildfire was Aerion Targaryen and he was Maester Aemon’s older brother! Robert Baratheon’s grandmother was Rhaelle Targaryen and her siblings were Shaera and Jaehaerys (who are Daenerys’ grandparents) which makes them all cousins. Greywater Watch lies on a crannog (floating island) which is why it moves and never remains in the same place

Oh the way the story is being told by the characters is absolutely genius and exciting to watch.. I love when Petter and Varys argue things

Does Greywater Watch potentially sit on a floating island? Since the “sea flowed into the neck and not all of it returned” then I’d assume it’s a swamp, and in Africa there are swamps where people build houses on islands of floating “reeds”. Coincidence?

When you said the ‘black’ doom, I think you were thinking of the the ‘black dread’ which was the name given to Aegon I’s dragon, Balerion. 👍

By the way, if everyone who likes one of their videos would also give just $1 "Thanks" which would have added up the over $1,200 for this video, I'll bet we would get more videos. Spartan and Pudge can correct me if I'm wrong.

Now that you got pass season 3, you should react to the Lannister's song " Rains of Castamere" ( The house that got wipe out by Tywin Lannister). It starts to play in the Red Wedding, thats what got Caitlyn Stark suspicious, thats why she looks at the band.

Another one of GRRM's pop culture references hidden in names. In HOTD, you may have heard of Grover Tully (then head of House Tully), his grandson Elmo and his great-grandsons Kermit and Oscar, all named for Muppets, as Martin is a fan of them. In this, Greywater Watch is a castle on an island that floats around the swamps of The Neck, and it's current lord is Howland Reed. In other words, it's Howl's Moving Castle, a Studio Ghibli film from 2004.

Thats why i love house tyrell. They play the game, like it was chess. And every move is for the future, and not for quick rage. They always seems to get from the situation without any mark. Aside from Dorne, the reach is the only that still have the army intact...They are near to rule the 7 kingdoms. They went from Renly the traitor, to lannisters saviors, to become the queen... lets see how things will go for them

The thing that these lore videos brings me back to is how insane GRRM's mind is to have created this entire world so meticulously. Hundreds of key families and people, major and minor milestones, geographic layouts. I feel like I'm watching a history lesson and then I go, "Hang on. None of this is real." Mind boggling.

Stannis is married to a Florent. The Florents were related to House Gardner, giving them a very obvious claim to Highgarden when their liege house perished on the Field of Fire.

Jeor Mormont's first name is so simple! no matter the accent! it's just JEE-OR. the end. whether or not you roll the 'r' in 'Jeor' isn't relevant. Americans will usually roll the r and Brits and Aussies usually won't, but the pronunciation is still the same and perfectly understandable! you guys seem to be pronouncing it as Jo-ah or something like that. it sounds like you thought there's an 'a' somewhere but there isn't.

spartan saying tywin does things which seem harsh in the moment but makes peace in the long term is kind of funny, because, if anything, tywin causes a lot of problems for his own family in the long-term. his use of fear works in the short-term, but i think tywin is really shortsighted. he basically ruins his house's reputation by making everyone mistrust them. no one can take the lannisters in good faith anymore, especially not after the red wedding. tywin is described as machiavellian by some, but he fails to live up to it, because there is no balance of fear and love. and fear has a way of wearing out; once you live long enough in a state of fear, you become numb to it and stop caring. when tywin is faced with someone who has nothing left to lose, he can't win.

Danny was in Qarth in season 2 then Astapor where she got the Unsullied, Astapor is known for its training of the unsullied warriors. Yunkai was the end of the season where the crowd were calling her mother. Yunkai is mainly know for training sex slaves essentially which is why it was fairly easy to liberate the slaves because they were mostly not warriors. The other city is Meereen is a combination of sorts as well as seeming to be a bigger trading post, they also have fighting pits which are quite famous in this world.
@briennesfatsister4788 Жыл бұрын
Qarth is the city Dani wound up in Season 2 after crossing the red waste (that desert.) It's South and West of Slaver's Bay. Astapor, Yunki, and Meereen are the three cities in Slaver's Bay. There's also New Ghis an island South of Slaver's Bay. Qohor is one of the free cities in the North West of Essos. Bran is a warg and skin-changer. Ramsey Snow is Roose's bastard son. Flaying is when you cut the skin off someone. It's basically the most painful way to kill someone. Even worse than burning because it can go on for hours and days. Brynden Tully is the Blackfish. Stanis is married to a Florent.

just going to correct you around 1:01:01 Pudgey said a flayed man was someone spreadeagled upon a cross. the correct term would be splayed upon a cross. A flayed man is someone who has had their skin removed - very different

*_"His mother was Targaryen"_* In the books it's actually Robert's grandmother Rahella Targaryen who was mother to Robert's Father Steffon Baratheon, not sure why the lore and show didn't go with this explanation. They even changed how maester Aemon is related to Daenarys 🤷
