With regard to the acting, I admit that I tend to grade child actors on a curve. Certainly there are great child performances, but it's much harder to get children to act convincingly than adults, and I'm pretty used to an amateurish quality in child actors, even in the hands of strong directors. I usually consider it a triumph if they at least aren't annoying. It's possible to notice raw talent even when the performances aren't perfect. I don't think the three kids from Harry Potter are great actors by any stretch, but they do have a basic presence, likability, and chemistry with one another, and I think that in particular Rupert Grint managed to be quite funny in this movie.

What happened with the diary was that Ginny kept on writing in it, same as anyone would write in their diary (she found it in her cauldron amongst her books and thought that someone had left it there with her others by mistake so she didn't say anything about it), stuff about her brothers, her second hand robes, and Harry, and Tom (even though he found the problems of an 11-year-old girl to be boring) wrote back and acted all kind and sympathetic to her which made her feel like she could trust him so she kept writing in him (he actually mocks her in the chamber saying "No one understands me like you tom, I'm so glad I've got this diary, it's like having a little friend I can carry around in my pocket"). He was always good at charming people which is why no matter what mysterious, frightening and unexplained things happened during his time at Hogwarts no one ever suspected him (though Dumbledore never thought him fully trustworthy for reasons we find out later, and tom had the sense not to try the same charm he used with the other teachers on him), plus he was a genuinely talented and intelligent young man so he was good at covering his tracks. He continued this charm through the diary, causing Ginny to feel safe in telling him about her dreams, her fears, her ambitions, her secrets and basically put her soul into him, not realising that that was giving him strength. Finally he reached a point where he could basically put his soul into her, and so basically possessed her into doing things like setting the basilisk on the students and the cats and writing the messages on the wall, then he'd retreat back into the diary and Ginny would wake up as if she'd been sleeping unable to remember what had happened in those last few hours and unable to understand why she had red paint or blood on her robes. She started to get scared when she realised that every time that happened to her someone was attacked (Tom thought her diary entires where she's talking about how she thinks she's attacking people both more interesting that her previous ones and what more, he found her fear funny). We see more in the book how jumpy she was getting and how she was starting to get easily scared and upset and even started to look pale and like she hadn't been sleeping for days - near the end she even tried to tell Harry and Ron but Percy interrupted her and she ran off. By the time Tom made her go down to the chamber and write her own farewell message on the wall she couldn't fight him off because he'd grown too strong on her soul. A friend of mine said it sounded like a pedophile grooming a victim the last time we watched the movie when we read Tom Riddle saying to Harry "let me show you", turns out a lot of people think the same way about how he dealt with Ginny.

Feeling lonely he employed the services of a beautiful young Japanese girl to be his companion for the evening. Although the Japanese girl spoke very little English and the businessman spoke no Japanese, their passion roared and in the heat of the moment she began yelling "Gama Su!, Gama Su!". Hearing this, the guy knew he had pleased his female Japanese friend and went to sleep. The next day while playing golf with his Japanese business colleagues, one of his partners holed his shot from 170 yards away! Everyone went crazy and began yelling excitedly in Japanese. Wanting to impress his friends, the guy joined in and began yelling, "Gama Su, Gama Su" After a moment of silence, one of the Japanese turned to him and asked "What do you mean 'wrong hole'?"

The whole deal with house elves is actually much darker (and much more interesting imo) in the books. You see, history has wizards broadly seeing themselves as very much superior to other magical beings (again, much more detailed as the books go on, it's interesting because you learn about this alongside Harry and Hermione, who were brought up by muggles). They have guarded fiercely the secret of how to produce magical wands (that help to channel/focus magic) from other intelligent magical creatures. Of course, there are some species that scoff at the necessity of being "validated" by wizards at all, such as centaurs, but there were some creatures that, in the long past, due to their kind and helpful nature, accepted being "brought into to fold" of the wizarding world in exchange for... A lower status. Such was the sad fate of the "house elves", which were, to the many rich families that were now "responsible" for them, pretty much slaves. They are magically bound to their Master, and their family (in case the Master dies, it goes down the bloodline), which is why Dobby harms himself whenever he does something that "his Master wouldn't approve", and why he **can't** answer Harry's questions: Because Lucius **ordered** him to do so. Hermione in the books goes a long way trying to be a voice for the house elves, making a group within Hogwarts to discuss their rights, and just being overall baffled at how nobody thinks much about how many house elves are currently "employed", even in Hogwarts, and even if their live conditions are much, much better than other elves'. She continues fighting for their well being and right to freedom even after growing up.

The first two movies were meant to be more happy-go-lucky movies for children. Filch by the way is what's called a Squib - meaning he was born into a wizarding family but has no powers of his own. Sort of the opposite to Hermione who was born into a Muggle or non-magic family but has powers. Pure-blood fanatics like the Malfoy family look down on Squibs the same way they look down on Muggles and basically see them as 'filth'. The fact that he has no magic of his own is probably why Filch is so angry all the time, he's bitter and jealous of all the students.

K. Rowling started writing the first drafts of Harry Potter in the early 90's she had set them in 'the present day' and just kept them there to make it easier on her keeping track of the storylines.

The third film is easily the best of the 8 movies, as far as I’m concerned, even though it’s probably the weakest book. Alfonso Cuarón transformed it into a true masterpiece. So many little design and direction choices you’ll love, like the scene at the beginning in the Leaky Cauldron inn. It’s still playful, but *sooo* much darker. It’s a shame that it’s the only film in the series he directed, because it’s truly superb.

Also, I’m a Gryffindor all day. But like Albus Dumbledore says near the end of the books…I sometimes think Hogwarts sorts the students too soon. 😉

I'm pretty sure the movies seem long is because you're watching the extended cut lol but anyway I totally agree with you about the houses. there is no house that is inherently bad or good. both good people and assholes can come from any house. you'll see that as you go through the series (I can't say much more without spoiling because examples I have are from characters you haven't met yet). bottom line: ignore the haters and just enjoy yourself. love, a proud Gryffindor.

I don't know if you ever read the book but in that scene with the Lucius and Arthur at the book store they straight up threw hands, decking each other in the face. For context: Lucius Malfoy says something nasty and racist about Hermione's parents in Arthur's presence. Arthur, who had so far spent the whole time weathering Lucius' insults about himself with steady dignity, responds to this by dropping everything he's doing and leaping on Malfoy fist first. Hagrid ultimately has to separate them.

@@denizkenger52 I don't know, Arthur got a lot of good swings in.
@denizkenger523 жыл бұрын
@@wolfkniteX the book never said either got any punches against each other. In the end though, Arthur had a cut lip and Lucius was hit in the eye by an encyclopedia of toadstools. So arthur was in a worse state basically.

The Harry Potter series takes place in the 1990's for a time frame reference, starting in 1991 with the first movie. A lot of people mistake Slytherin as being evil-they're intelligent and strong, often pursuing power of all sorts. Lucius Malfoy and his ilk give the house a bit of a bad rap. For Hogwarts houses I got put into Hufflepuff, as I'm a hard worker and a loyal friend, with a Thestral (a magical beast you'll see in the 5th movie I believe) as my Patronus. Though being sorted for Ilvermorny, the American school of wizardry, I'm house Thunderbird.

Didn't even know there were extended versions. I do remember the first two or three coming with deleted scenes and bloopers, but then none of the rest did, I always assumed they were saving them for the super special 20th anniversary edition or some bullshit

11:20 the thing I love about this bit is that Lockhart has hung in his classroom a portrait of himself... painting a portrait of himself. That is some next-level narcissism. :edit: 12:13 and then here the Lockhart inside the portrait is straight dippin

I can't look at Malfoy without seeing Jonah Hill breakin balls in Get Him to The Greek. The actor playing Malfoy was excellent in that brief scene. The entire movie froze in anger along with him.

It’s so funny that you mentioned how Neville has really bad luck because technically he was almost Voldemort’s chosen one. Him and Harry share all of the requirements but Harry was the one who was chosen. Both of their parents were killed by Voldemort, he was born as the seventh month dies just like Harry, and his parents had defied Voldemort three times.

I've been sorted into Ravenclaw more than anything else. I've even taken abstract tests that put me there. I don't mind it honestly, though, I wish our merchandise was book accurate. I'll never understand why the Ravenclaw colors and animal mascot were changed for the films. Also 2:21 🤣
