First time watching *HOME ALONE* -1990 - reaction/review

This is our first time watching "Home Alone" starring Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci and Catherine O'hara. This video is intended to give my own personal review and is edited in such a format to abide by the copyright laws for fair use. I highly suggest you to have seen this movie before watching my review. Thank you, and I appreciate your interest in my channel.

Safe to think of Home Alone as a live action cartoon. They take punishment that would kill someone in real life and keep getting up for more.

Apparently, Joe Pesci did drop a few "f-bombs" during filming, since He had never made a family movie before. Director Chris Columbus suggested he say "fridge" instead of the f-word. Also, whenever you hear him muttering gibberish whenever he gets hurt, that's his way of cussing without actually cussing.

When I was four years old, I stepped on a piece of glass and cut a major artery in my foot, so I cringe every time I see that scene.

@@alexamerling79 Yeah. I don't think I cried as much from the pain as from seeing all the blood on the bottom of my foot. I had to have stitches on the inside and the outside of my foot. And I had such a low tolerance to the anesthesia they couldn't deaden it all the way. It was like I could feel them cutting on me. My dad and one of the nurses had to hold me down while they operated on me. To make matters worse, it became infected and they had to do it all over again a week later. I'll never forget that as long as I live.

New here. I love that John Candy and Macaulay were reunited in this after Uncle Buck. Even though they weren't in a scene together, close enough. Also the funeral scene by Candy was completely improvised, which makes it even more hilarious. And Marv's spider death scream is legit. He had arachnophobia. The greatest crime in this certainly...is that Kevin didn't even get to eat his Macaroni and Cheese.

The movie Angels With Filthy Souls that Kevin is watching isn't a real movie. The clips were made just as part of Home Alone. Other Joe Pesci movies you should see are My Cousin Vinny and the Lethal Weapon series (he comes in on the 2nd movie).

It's a bit crazy with such different roles, but Joe Pesci is good as both, whether he's playing the crazy mobster or a lovable crook, which is why he cut such a good figure in Lethal Weapon 2-4, if you haven't seen those movies yet.

The picture of Buzz's girlfriend is actually a picture of a boy in a wig. The movie "Angels with Filthy Souls" is not a real movie. It was made specially for the movie. The pages in the Playboy magazine that Kevin looks through were stapled together to keep Macaulay Culkin from seeing any nudity. Daniel Stern said in an interview that hitting Joe Pesci with the crowbar was scarier than having the tarantula on his face. John Candy filmed all his scenes in one take that took 23 hours and he ad-libbed all his lines. He also was paid minimum wage. He did the movie as a favor to John Hughes. Joe Pesci intentionally avoided Macaulay Culkin while the movie was being filmed because he wanted Culkin to really be afraid of him. Joe Pesci actually bit Macaulay Culkin's finger by accident when filming the scene where Harry threatens to bite off all his fingers. The colors red and green appear in almost every scene, on furniture, wallpaper or clothing to emphasize the Christmas theme of the movie. That policeman who went to the house to check on Kevin was an idiot. He just knocked on the door and never once identified himself at all, much less as a policeman, and then he wonders why Kevin didn't answer the door? Duh!

New here. Joe Pesci did this right after Goodfellas, and he had to learn to not cuss. Also, John Candy was the lead in director Chris Columbus's next movie Only the Lonely, which came out 6 months after Home Alone. While John Candy didn't have any scenes with Macaulay Culkin here, they were in one scene together in Only the Lonely. Kevin's cousin Fuller is played by Macaulay Culkin's younger brother Kieran, who also appears in Only the Lonely.

1. John Candy did his part at union rate/FREE for his friend John Hughes RIP 😇😇 2. The items in Kevin's bags were all empty and not the same as what he had a checkout. 3. Daniel Stern/Harry has arachnophobia. That's why he freaked out. (NOTE: tarantula spiders aren't venomous to humans but look scary). He insisted on only one take. I always thought that the reason why he doesn't call the cops is because back then cops didn't really believe kids when they called 911. Also why he lowered his voice to sound like a grown up. Remember in Ferris Bueller Jeanie got picked up for making a fake call to 911 when it was real. The dispatcher immediately thought it was a prank and never believed her. Not sure how common actual prank calls to 911 by teens were considering there was no callerID it's possible a lot of kids got away with it.
