This has been my favorite movie since I was 12 when it came out. Brad Pitt instantly became my favorite actor and still is to this day. This movie is so good and the score is perfect for it. Glad to see more people reacting to it! Great reaction!

Tristan leaving Susannah and the Ranch is the opposite of selfish. He knew he wasn't well and had mental problems and in those days going to see a therapist wasn't an option. Tristan had to leave so he wouldn't hurt Susannah and he could become the man she deserves.
@Slappys Жыл бұрын
I don’t see how Tristan was being selfish with Susannah. He liked her and he tried to make it work between them. Even if they didn’t know as much about mental health at the time, it’s obvious that he was in no state to give her what she was looking for. He never asked her to wait on him to come back and told her plainly when he felt the relationship was over and she shouldn’t waste her time.
@thatonkgau522111 ай бұрын
Yeah Tristan was actually extremely Selfless with Susannah hell he didn't even get that mad or bitter and jealous when he found out she married Alfred because he wanted her to be happy even if it wasn't with him.
@lockekappa5006 ай бұрын
One could argue he should have never attempted to wed her out of obligation. But I'd say that was his only selfish move.

One of the most underappreciated movies ever. A truly beautifully acted, directed, shot, cast, film. I adore how it portrays a realistic family drama through the ages...unlike many lesser films. Everyone is on their A game in this movie, with special mention to julia ormond who was amazing as susana...she absolutely nailed the dramatic scenes. Soundtrack is also a banger. Just an amazing film. Great reaction!

This movie is beautiful. I watched it in a time in my life where I was about 15. My brother was 4 years older and was more like Tristan, while I was more like Alfred. It wasn't a perfect match, but my brother was always the troublemaker, always the rule breaker. He also seemed to have a way about him that made people be swayed towards him because he had a charm to him. So he was able to get away with things that no one else, let alone I, would. He eventually went down a sad and depressing path of drugs and crime, which turned into stints in and out of jail, then in and out of prison. He's still in that cycle. To this day I still remember the line that Alfred says at the funeral and it still rings true for a lot of situations. "I fallowed all the rules, you followed none, yet they still loved you more." It's a bitter sort of outlook but the bitterness doesn't make it any less true. You can see this sort of thing all throughout life. As kids the trouble maker gets all the attention, even if it means unintentionally ignoring the rule followers. Later on in life people will be attracted to the 'rule breaker' because they're exciting and dangerous. Then even later in life people will say you look back on what you've done when you were younger and have regrets. Regrets of not being wild enough, or living enough. Anyway, it's just a really good line and a great story. Even in the end Tristan lived beyond all of them, lol. Shows you just how little life cares for rules or fairness.

He cut out his heart and shipped it back home. During WW1 most of the dead were buried in Europe, with rare exception would their remains have been returned across the Atlantic.

Great reaction! I've always thought that Tristan was never in love with Susanna but did care about her, with a hint of lust, because she was Samuel's fiance. I've also thought that Susanna was more so infatuated with Tristan & little delusional than in love.

The one thing that makes me scratch my head when I watch reactors who don't get that. I understood that as a 9 year old boy what he was doing, and why. Sad people are so oblivious to Native American customs.

Susanna was the opposite of Isabel (their mother). She embraced ranch life, and didn't long for city-life like their mother with Boston. So she wasn't really a natural match for Alfred.

First time i watched this i was breaking down throughout the film and when she killed herself i really broke down....but the brother helping at the end was at least some consolation....but a true tragic gut wrenching story that many past people probably have lived

The oldest sibling is always more mature, more grown up, does better in life than his or her younger siblings. This movie exemplifies this concept perfectly. Alfred is mature, Tristan is the middle child so he's more of a wild child, and Samuel is the youngest, so he has less life experience as you see with the relationship between him and Susannah.

One of my FAVORITE MOVIES!! I had this movie on VHS!! Susana was a whore and went through 3 brothers and then it fell back on her when Tristan dumped her Isabel 2 whom he was going to marry all along when she got older and they both knew it because Isabel told Susana that when she was younger. Tristan did what he wanted and I couldn’t stand him for that, but was pretty much raised indigenous because their mother left all 3 of her kids 🤦🏾♀️ I don’t like that Tristan’s father still favored him when he was always messing up.
