Now that there are so many movies in the franchise, this one sticks out the widest in terms of its over-the-top style and tone as well as its depiction of Ethan; all of which are big trademarks of director John Woo. But it makes sense in the progression of Ethan as a character because it establishes that he's a daredevil in his personal life and it informs his approach to missions. And the next movie continues to explore whether it's possible for him to have emotional bonds with people and still do his job.

Calling this movie "the worst one" doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. In a series of movies like Mission Impossible, one _has_ to be the worst one, just like one _has_ to be the best. 21:12: "But "risky" is his middle name!" Actually. . . "Risky" is his "Business." Part of the reason this movie is what it is is because there was some criticism of the first film for being too complex, to convoluted, too confusing. So this was deliberately kept simpler than the first. I don't want to say "dumbed down," because it wasn't, there's still a lot of cleverness in what's going on, the heroes (and the villains) are primarily thinking their way towards their goals. But it was wrapped in more of the "gunshots and explosions" that late 90s/early 2000s action movies relied on.

The original idea was to have a different director for every installment. Letting everyone tell their own story in their unique way. Christopher McQuarrie changes that with how successful his first movie was.

Which is sad, I don't like Christopher McQuarrie, his ones are the only ones I never rewatched. I find them really dull and bland, but obviously I'm in the minority. Haven't even seen the latest one, I know it's going to be just more of the same.
@javix20136 ай бұрын
McQuarrie is solid in terms of scripts, but in terms of his direction, it seems to me to be a direction that is only correct to comply with what the script asks for, it is very close to a generic direction, without its own style, they are films that are good, they are good , but they are not memorable, McQuarrie needs to find a directing style, so that we want to watch his movies over and over again and remember them by heart, I don't know, like putting in some slow motion, playing more with dramatic climaxes combined with good music , make the scenes more gore, cause impact in some way, I feel that he lacks a more personal direction style as if they have it: Nolan, John Woo, Verhoeven, Ridley Scott, Spielberg, even the hated Michael Bay has his style Unique, you see the films of all those directors and feel their DNA in the direction at every moment, you feel the vibes of their directing style.
@javix20136 ай бұрын
@@JDelwynn That's why I think I've seen MI-2 more times than the ones directed by McQuarrie, because I adore John Woo's visual style, despite the script defects of that film, but on a visual level for me it is the most memorable of the saga. , I know it by heart, which doesn't happen to me with the others, maybe the J.J Abrahms, another one that I remember more or the one by Brian De Palma, but I don't remember much about the rest after 3, and that's Maybe they haven't been memorable because of that lack of directing style, they are good movies yes, but not memorable ones that you're going to see 20 times, it doesn't happen to me with McQuarrie's, he thinks he should find his directing style, no a direction only correct, that is not enough to make a movie memorable and want to see it many times.

ya... just because a movie is considered "bad", doesn't mean you can't or won't like it. Even if the movie well and truly is an objectively really bad movie, it is still possible to like it. The same goes the other way around. Just because a movie is supposed to be fantastically awesome... even if it is objectively awesome, doesn't mean you are going to like it. From my experience, normal audiences... and I consider the vast majority of "reactors" to be "normal audiences (what I mean by "normal" in this case is people that don't really go in for all the background lore and cannon, or pay much attention to all the little inconsistencies and contradictions that pretty much ALL movies have) will tend to like more movies than the "afficionados". Simply because they are either not versed in the lore/background/etc.. and don't see the mistakes because they don't look for them. This is a great way to watch movies...especially for reactors, as it allows you to like many more movies than some people would. I know there are some movies I absolutely detested, but you loved them, or at least liked them. And vice versa! But it's the same for me for ALL the reactors I watch!
