I’ve always loved this song but it has a sad new meaning now. My wife died in 2020 and when I found her, her eyes were staring up at heaven and her skin was a whiter shade of pale. I cry every time I hear it but I kind of feel like I’m in church and that brings me comfort.

Deepest, deepest, deepest condolences for your inexplicably difficult loss. I feel the same way about this song. I was 10 years old when it first came out and it just literally brings me to my knees every time I hear it. It’s just that powerful. Never mind the memories that are attached to it that is an aside. You’re lucky and blessed to have the memories you do and that was a beautiful comment you made that was a deep and special love you shared.❤️🩹

The perfect song my dear. Gary Brooker recorded that song in 1967 and if anything, he sounds better 40 years later. What a shame he passed away in February of 2022.. I have probably listened to this song 1000 times in my 67 year life and never get tired of it.

One of the greatest songs of all time, so timeless and good! "A Whiter Shade of Pale" has become an enduring classic with more than 1000 known cover versions by other artists. In 1977 the song was named joint winner (along with the Queens "Bohemian Rhapsody" of the best British Pop single 1952 - 1977 at the Brit Awards, and Rolling Stone magazine placed it 57 on it list of The 500 greatest songs of all time. Some other great artists who has recorded the song: Bonnie Tyler, Annie Lennox, Helmut Lotti, Everly Brothers, Joe Cocker, The Congregation and Elisabeth von Trapp. The live performance of this song by Procol Harum from Denmark is magical! I look forward to more amazing reaction video 2023. Happy New Year Psyche! 🌠

One of the most beautiful recordings of one of the all time iconic gems of rock history in a perfect setting. Wish I could have been there. I have loved this song since I first heard it on my parents AM car radio in the late 60s as a preteen kid. Its simply an iconic 60s song that has always stood the test of time and crosses generations, colors and categories. I made it a point about a decade ago, a few years after this recording, to see the great GARY BROOKER and PROCOL HARUM perform this live before it was too late. Drove 6 hours just to see them live, and they did not disappoint. Of course this iconic gem was the highlight. No orchestra, just the band playing the original arrangement with the iconic Hammond B3 organ playing the gorgeous wistful Bach derived melody, and of course BROOKER'S powerful majestic pipes which seem even more suited to fit this masterpiece he wrote even more now than as a young 21 year old in 1967. Just an incredible delivery and so glad I finally got to see Gary and company play this live. Tears were welling up all around me. Thanks for your heartfelt reaction to this gem. RIP GARY.

I was 16 when this came out in 1967 and, like so many of us back then, was absolutely intrigued by this song and its possible meaning, but also simply by the song itself. When I first heard this live orchestral version I was truly stunned by its beauty. My first time seeing you react but the level of respect and appreciation you demonstrated, never interrupting the performance, was so wonderful it made me subscribe. Looking forward to your catalogue! Just so nicely done!

Very rare a later live or studio version sounds as good as the original. The dynamics in this version are fantastic. My whole life this song has always captured me with its melody and that organ. Painting my own personal picture of mystery with the lyrics. Having a full orchestra and especially the choir makes this phenomenal. Hats off to the soundman, the mix is spot on beautiful. Nobody can touch that today because too many computers are being used, you need real musicians, humans with souls. Poor kids today, it seems more of a visual and over rhyming for them.

This is beautiful emotional and sad also, Gary's voice grew as Frank S says like old vintage wine, absolutely beautiful voice, the amazing orchestra - and the amazing band - and angels sang along, to make this one of the most prestigious songs for the younger generations to understand what true genuine music is truly appreciated, no AI no PC no DJ, true genuine collaboration of genuine musicians coming together, and delivering an absolute masterpiece. I appreciate this being recorded, I was brought up listening to the released version, But in truth this version was Godly ! I think it blows everyone away, Gary Rest In Peace, You delivered a true heavenly Masterpiece

It had to be very difficult to proportionally balance the rock band's performance with the signature Hammond organ sound playing that so familiar melody and Gary with his powerful majestic pipes with the orchestra's touches and the beautiful choirs singing all balanced correctly so that one doesn't drown out the other. That must have taken some practice to pull off so perfectly. Just an incredible live piece of gorgeous music.

Procol Harum is a band, not a “he”.

What on earth is this random word salad that appears as closed captioning at the bottom of the video here? It occasionally bears some resemblance to the song's words, but not often. I would like to turn it off if possible, but, since I didn't ask for it in the first place, I don't know how to do that. It is very distracting.

You've obviously hit the 'cc' sign at the bottom if the video. Switch it off by clucking on it so its not highlighted. Or go into your settings which looks like a 'wheel', again at the bottom right if the video and switch it off from there. Simple as that.

@@psycheinc-theSLC Thanks - you found an easier solution than I did. I managed to fix it by searching through settings. I was going to come back and fix my post, but then I couldn't find it. Thanks - I realized it wasn't your problem.
