"This is so meta!" Randy (Jamie Kennedy) telling Jamie Lee Curtis to turn around while being stalked himself, while being watched by Kenny & Syd, as well as us, is a meta convergance like no other. I also really love the brick joke of "The janitor is your superior!" when the director Wes Craven appears as Fred the janitor 🤣🤣🤣

@@RyanCarrington You'll see Tori Spelling again in Scream 2 and get to see just how meta the Scream series gets. I hope you watch the rest of the Scream films. They're surprisingly good for such a long running franchise. The meta-ness is cranked way up in Scream 2 and Scream 3, so if you like that aspect you'll probably enjoy them just for that.

A little trivia: Most of us know about Linda Blair as the reporter, Wes Craven as the janitor, and that Skeet Ulrich looking and acting like Johnny Depp from NOES was intentional, but how many of you actually know that Kenny is the same guy who plays Warren in There’s Something About Mary ? "Franks and beans!"
@cally1941
@cally1941 8 ай бұрын
There were so many references to Nightmare on Elm Street in this movie because it was the same director Wes Craven who cameos as the janitor in the Freddy Krueger sweater and hat. Billy resembles Johnny Depps character and Tatum wearing the number 10 on her top just like Johnny. The scream from Dewey when Sidney opens the door after running away from Billy is definitely the funniest part of the movie. Stu swearing at Billy was ad-libbed because the phone wasn’t meant to hit him on the head, it stuck to Billy’s hand with the fake blood and “my mom and dad are going to be so mad at me” was also unscripted but Wes found it so funny he kept it in the movie. Enjoy watching the sequels, the only one I seen on the big screen was the 5th movie and unfortunately Wes had passed away after the 4th but they made a great tribute to him.

1. What I like most about doing this is watching people overthink it. 2. Cell phones weren't prevalent in 1996. 3. Dewey's superior IS the janitor since Wes Craven did the cameo as Freddy Kruger. 4. The principal was the Fonz/Henry Winkler. (one of Fonzie's Jacket is on a coat hanger in the closet) 5. Tatum/Rose McGowan as long as I have a face.😋😍 6. I love how the inept killer keeps getting his ass kicked🤣 7. Fun fact: The reporter lady that ends saying "People have the right to know." is played by Linda Blair/Reagan from "The Exorcist".

18:22 it did actually exist before. iirc it was sold at halloween stores in 1991 and 1992. during early stages of movie production they didn't know what costume the killer would wear yet, i think it was when the producer found it in a home during location scouting. they liked it and got the rights for it and became probably the most iconic killer/halloween costume ever

duuude i have a suggestion..black christmas 1974..it basically started this genre... partially based on the janet christman murder in the 50s...then when a stranger calls and when a stranger calls back (underrated creepy movie) was made then halloween..all movies come from that crime which birthed the MAN UPSTAIRS urban legend..rob zombie said black christmas freaked him out his group of friends all slept in the same house together that night lol they also did the POV style that was done in peeping tom..from the killers perspective...made it more eerie...gnarley flick...the camera angles and lighting are phenomenal

In 1996 people who were familiar with slasher films recognised the satirical element to the film, we didn't use the term meta but people were calling it a spoof, satire, or post-modern. What's great about the film though is that it also works as a straight horror so can be enjoyed on different levels by different audiences

This was one of those films that you would snatch from your friends older sister VHS collection ( I was 6 when this came out). We all would have a legit channel ready to skip to if their mom knocked at the door (looking at you Brittany 😅). American Pie was also that film as well 😂 By the time 2000 came around, many of us definitely had seen a lot of films that a lot of kids "shouldn't have seen". Half of those films are relatively tame compared to horror films now (Carrie and the Exorcist being excluded from that tame list.) However, my dad showed me all the old black and white horror classics, so I was essentially prepared TO A DEGREE. I also vividly remember watching Helena Bonham Carter as the Bride of Frankenstein in the 90s film when it came out. Horror junkie still to this day. ❤ Also, I love and need your shirt dude.

There are slight variations in the story of how they found the ghostface mask depending on what interview you watch, but basically they found it whilst location scouting and tracked it down to a small costume shop that had been producing them since the 50s and licenced it for the movies. This franchise is great though, highly recommend watching at least 2 and 3 if you don't want to watch all 6

The Ghostface mask has always been owned by costume company Fun World. Scream had to go through a lot before they were given the rights to use it. A copycat of the mask was made by studio makeup company KNB and used for the majority of filming until rights for the Fun World mask were acquired. The film then went into reshoots with the official mask. The KNB mask can still be seen in the film in the scenes with Drew Barrymore and Henry Winkler as they were not available for the reshoots. In Drew's scene reshoots were done with a double in her place so any time you see her face during the chase it's the KNB mask. Whenever it's the official Fun World mask it's not Drew.

My dude! I live vicariously through people who I've never seen scream. I had one of the strippers from work stay with me an entire week and she had never seen any of them. So literally we would get off work at 9:00 p.m. put on a scream movie pause it, have sex, play it have sex, pause it it took us a week to watch all the movies haha I have an entire half sleeve on my lower right arm of scream. Definitely in my top three.

I dunno Ryan, you've said some silly things in the past but asking if 90's Drew Barrymore has a boyfriend has to be in the top ten 😁 There have been hundreds self-referencing "meta" films over the years, Cravens own "New Nightmare" ( Dry run for Scream ), Edgar Wright built his entire career about them as did Tarantino. Woody Allen made loads, Robert Altman....... "Cinema Paradiso", "The Artist", Fellini`s “8½”, "Sunset Boulevard", they've been doing that shit forever.

One of the flaws in this franchise is when the mask gets left behind, they never seem to swab it for dna. They could have had the killers relatively quickly had they done that.

Neve Campbell in this movie was sooo pretty/gorgeous. A fun fact of the movie it´s that Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) and David Arquette (agent Dewey), had a romance in the real life, like in the film (you can see the chemistry), and were married and had a daughter (Coco Riley Arquette).
