Killing someone you have invited into your home and broken bread with is one of the most egregious acts you can do in this world. The Starks thought they were safe because of this sacred custom. It's why it was the perfect trap. A bit different than in the books, but equally heartbreaking. I love watching you two!
@neil2444 Жыл бұрын
The audience thinks its safe too, because these types of situations don't happen in tv or film. Though such things have happened in real life, such as the head of Templar family getting invited to the Vatican and getting slaughtered in their sleep. In other words, nobody has plot armor in real life, and this subverts our expectations to this realization in the best way possible, like ripping off a Band-Aid. The Starks lived by an honor code, and their mistake is assuming others follow this honor code.

It goes to show that they disrespected him both for good reason, and at their own peril; if they thought so little of Frey that they would renege on a sworn promise, they might have expected a dirtbag like him to seek revenge rather than display grace and forbearance. When i watched GoT for the first time and Ned died, i was shocked. But i told myself "so this is really a tale about a son avenging his father's death" when Robb rallied his men to wage war. Then the Red Wedding happened. I was soooooo shocked i didn't realized i was already staring with my mouth open at the silent credits rolling by. It was then that it really cemented on me the fact that no one is really safe in this show, not even the main characters are exempted to death. Which is really good in retrospect, because it makes the story more realistic and unpredictable. That also made me finally go read the books, which are masterpieces.

I’ve felt so bad for Pudgey for weeks/months when she was so excitedly shipping Rob and Tulisa and I knew, to quote the show, her joy would turn to ashes in her mouth! Brilliant move by Tywin to end the war in minutes. The reason Rob went in unprotected is because this never happens. In this world, it’s customary that, when you invite someone into your home and they accept your hospitality, they are protected. What Frey did at the behest of Tywin was unprecedented and a total betrayal of all the rules of war.

Rickon, Bran, Arya, Sansa, Robb… Robb… please, Ned, please, make it stop, make it stop hurting… The white tears and the red ones ran together until her face was torn and tattered, the face that Ned had loved. Catelyn Stark raised her hands and watched the blood run down her long fingers, over her wrists, beneath the sleeves of her gown. Slow red worms crawled along her arms and under her clothes. It tickles. That made her laugh until she screamed. “Mad,” someone said, “she’s lost her wits,” and someone else said, “Make an end,” and a hand grabbed her scalp just as she’d done with Jinglebell, and she thought, No, don’t, don’t cut my hair, Ned loves my hair. If you thought this was bad, it was way worse in the books and “Talisa” wasn’t even there. First Cat had just learned of the marriage of between Sansa & Tyrion, both Cat and Rob believed Rickon and Bran were dead. Rob had just let Cat know that their plan after the wedding was to go back home and win Winterfell back, to then give up his crown if it meant sparing Northerners’ lives. Oh and Roose Bolton’s last words to Robb were “Jaime Lannister sends his regards”, the man who Cat had let escaped. I saw GOT before I read the books, and I didn’t cry when I saw this nor when I read the chapter to this. I cried like a b at the end of Catelyn’s previous(penultimate) chapter when her and Rob had just made their peace in believing that Arya was most likely dead never knowing how close they’d be to seeing her alive, I literally had to put the book down for days.

what makes this twist so great is that it was totally earned! if you rewatch the previous episodes you will see all the signs that lead to this are there, but the audience ignores them because no one wants to believe this could happen to the heroes: - Robb's and Catelin's mistakes. - Warnings that Walder Frey will not forgive this - Roose Bolton's betrayal and him working with the Lannisters was full on display for several episodes now, and more. Interesting how she started laughing at the end there. Her actress Michelle Fairley, who watches the scene in the actors commentary for the episode also starts laughing too. I had this spoiled for me by KZbin comments. Knowing it was coming made me fall in love with Robb all over again, but it also made me watch out for the warning signs, and they're everywhere. Heartbreaking, but probably inevitable. The Rains of Castermere is the song Cersei told Margaery about - a song commemorating Tywin's annihilation of the overambitious Reyns and Tarbecks. The brotherhood without banners were singing it when they met Arya and the others, and the Lannister soldiers were singing it with Bronn before the attack on King's Landing by Stannis. I've watched a number of reactions to this, and have to say, Pudgey's optimism is what makes this so great. One of the best reactions on this. Keep it up guys.

love they way Pudgey states “this guys going on my hate list” like that’ll show him, I bet he won’t like that!!

I had heard about the red wedding in passing multiple times before I watched the show, and I was actually still caught off guard with this scene. For some reason, I had thought that the infamous wedding would take place during daytime and might’ve involved Joffrey, so I was still surprised by this episode, even though I knew some sort of tragedy was coming.

I always love people's reactions to this episode. It drives home the understanding that this is not a world for good and honorable people. Good and honorable people get killed in this world simply for being good and honorable.

Nah, you can be good and honorable in this world. Just as long as you play it smartly.

I loved the full KZbin episode u guys did and commented, but had to also like and comment here... the joy and let down of our guard amplified the gut punch of pain. Weddings in Westeros never go well. 😄

When I first watched this I sat there, mouth hanging open, in total silence as the credits rolled.. and then for some time after that. It was the biggest shock ever!

The Reynes of Castamere were a house in the Westerlands that took advantage of Tytos' (Tywins father) weakness, taking loans they would not pay back and rebelling when Tywin demanded they did. So Tywin went to crush them, and when they sought shelter in their mines, Tywin diverted a nearby stream into them, drowning every last Reyne. And now the rains weep o'er their halls, with not a soul to hear

Welcome to the GoT officially. Also, you guys and girls should watch other reactions to the "Red Wedding" when you have time. It is still one of the most iconic moments in TV history.

Moment of Silence for the sweet summer children that are no more. I think Spartan was already on his way, but they're both winter kids, now.

I'm not sure if any others have mentioned it but this very episode, which originally aired on June 2, 2013, is a huge factor in the explosion of react culture. You guys might not be KZbin reactors today without it! It started with book fans secretly, or sometimes not secretly, recording the reactions of their unsuspecting non-book reader friends or significant others' reactions and posting them to KZbin. Because this episode takes a huge turn, and a heartbreaking one, reactions to it are extremely emotional as you may expect. Poor one out for George R. R. Martin, he's helped make a lot of people very rich (or at least given them primary or secondary incomes) from his writing of these books! LOL

Pretty sure Pudgey is the only person other than Robb that loved Talisa so much. 😂 I never like her myself since it was obviously a huge strategic mistake from the start for Robb to break that vow. The end result was very shocking, cruel, and unjust but still it was the result of that mistake and he could and should have avoided it all.
@valbonney2575 Жыл бұрын
It may have been a mistake, but why would that make you dislike Talisa? It takes two to tango, as they say! Robb was just as much to blame, if not more so, as he had agreed to the Frey marriage.

in the books robb's wife didnt go to the wedding and got an immediate royal pardon. it is insinuated that she was a plant by tywin all along and tywin was proper playing the game of thrones by planting her for robb and undermining relations with the freys, whilst also working w/ the freys to have him killed

Interesting. I didn't read the books but heard the men tried to protect Robb and wish they had kept that in.

I think the part that really got me about this whole scene was when Talisa died because that part actually made my whole body (not just my stomach) just ache and nearly throw up. It’s still a very intense scene, even if I’ve seen the show many times over
