The "croutons" are bread and salt, which invoke "guest right," (feels like it should be rite, but that's not what seems to be used) which is the tradition that once a guest has eaten food from a host's table, neither guest nor host will harm the other for the duration of the visit. It's considered sacred in Westros, especially in the North, which is reflected at the windmill when Bran tells one of Old Nan's gruesome stories about one time when guest right was violated. Once the salt and bread was consumed (and I believe there was a throw away line somewhere about how anxious Kat was for it to occur), the Starks had every reason to believe they'd be safe at the wedding, but Frey's a vindictive a-hole who set aside every cultural norm for the sake of revenge.

When Gilly says that Sam gets this goofy smile on his face like f*** yeah, I'm a wizard! Also Ygrite intentionally miss the shot at the old man who jumped on the horse. John called her name, she paused, then she intentionally missed because she wanted him to. This opinion is based on Tormund's opinion of her archery skills, and the way she looks back at John after she misses the shot. Last, the song played is the reins of Castamere. This is the Lannister song played for enemies to emphasize why you don't challenge them and that the cost is death.

Catelyn, after seeing Robb murdered. It hurts so much, she thought. Our children, Ned, all our sweet babes. Rickon, Bran, Arya, Sansa, Robb… Robb… please, Ned, please, make it stop, make it stop hurting… The white tears and the red ones ran together until her face was torn and tattered, the face that Ned had loved. Catelyn Stark raised her hands and watched the blood run down her long fingers, over her wrists, beneath the sleeves of her gown. Slow red worms crawled along her arms and under her clothes. It tickles. That made her laugh until she screamed. “Mad,” someone said, “she’s lost her wits,” and someone else said, “Make an end,” and a hand grabbed her scalp just as she’d done with Jinglebell, and she thought, No, don’t, don’t cut my hair, Ned loves my hair. 26:40 The "sad song" they're playing is actually the Rains of Castamere, a song about Tywin Lannister brutally crushing a rebellious vassal and exterminating their entire family. That's why Catelyn starts to panic when she hears the band start playing it.

0:14 Oh sweet sweet summer child. 9:58 That's what he wanted to be when he grows up, according to what he said to Jon. 26:50 The sad song is the Lanister's song. Every time it played. Something bad happened. Listen to the lyrics, they explain a "real" story that is indeed sad. 31:56 As handsome as he is, I hate it so much every time he gets in the camera and I don't know why.

In the books they actually foreshadow the red wedding a few times, in one of Danys chapters in the house of the undying she sees a man with a wolf’s head in place of his own with blood flowing from his neck, and a crown on his head.

I think all of us were hurt that badly upon first viewing. It takes a couple days before you get curious about what's happening next in the story, and that's normal. The show came out weekly originally, so we all had that full week to digest and make ready for the next episode. I hope you come back around too, Hannah!

@brandibastian4193 Жыл бұрын
Yeah the whole point of playing that song the reigns of castamere was cuz apparently people in westeros know exactly what that song means. They know about the time when the Lannisters wiped out the family of castamere and that was the intention at the red wedding to annihilate. The family stark but they didn't have access to every stark so they couldn't technically annihilate the family, but they came as close as possible. They killed the remaining parent, the eldest son and his wife and his heir and his wolf. Not that the wolf would have been able to protect them because it was outside but trust me if gray one wasn't outside, he would have still died but I guarantee he would have at least taken half a dozen Frey's with him

That sad death lullaby is called Rains of Castamere (remember the story Cersei reminds Margaery of to threaten her in the previous ep, at Tyrion and Sansa's wedding?), the theme song of House Lannister.

The "croutons" is bread with cheese. In the books, if you ask or is offered bred, cheese, wine and salt, you are protected by the "Guest right". Walder Frey killing them while they were his guests was a betrayal considered even worst than breaking an oath.

in the books most of the northern lords were gone because of the bedding but a few were left, instead of the stabbing robb just suddenly had an arrow in his back and people started fighting, one of the lords literally threw a table on top of robb to shield him from the arrows. they even thought they got saved when northern soldiers walked in but they were bolton men and they killed everyone left. his wife (who is someone else in the books) wasnt there and survived tho

The song before the slaughter that you called a death lullaby has a grisly history in the lore. The song is called the rains of castamere which is a Lannister song which Cat recognized and was suspicious of. The song is about how Tywin Lannister slaughtered the house of Reyne from Castamere which was a banner house to the Lannister family that rebelled. In the end Tywin had all of the Reynes dead.
@0okamino Жыл бұрын
House Reynes of Castamere. It’s possible that not completely _all_ of the Reynes are dead (there are some rumors), but Reynes is no longer a House, and that’s good enough for Tywin.

If Jon Snow let Ygritte kill a wildling for him, the wildings would have killed her. So he knocked her down. If Jon Snow takes Ygritte with him back to the Night Watch, she will be killed. The safest place for Ygritte was to stay with the wildings and Jon knew it. The infamous "Red Wedding" singlehandedly brought a huge gain in popularity for reaction channels. Hannah is a natural for reactions. Very genuine. I hope Ash can convince her to continue the GoT series. It is a roller-coaster of feelings with 'ups' and 'downs'. The 'downs' hurt, but that only makes the 'ups' all the more satisfying.
