I thought “cute” in Zootopia was kind of like a slur that bunnies are trying to reclaim. So, it’s okay for bunnies to use it, but not for other animals to use it. Or it could be that because she’s the only bunny cop, AND she’s a female cop, she doesn’t want people calling her “cute” because it negates her power and shows they view her as a just a female and not a female COP.

Yeah this movie was a way of talking about racism to kids without using the actual word. Like cute can be even seen as the n word or r word. Even the way people judge Judy and Nick on their species can be a nod to race.

Notice the play on stereotypes: Elephant never forgets but this one does. Sloths are slow, but speedy speed in His car And the play on racism (Another black person can call a black person the N word, but a person of another race cannot) A bunny can call another bunny “cute” but another species cannot. The work in on stereotypes, racism, and systemic racism was subtle but brilliant.

well, the sloths _are_ slow though. the reality is, some stereotypes _are_ true, and not all stereotypes are necessarily harmful. but often the harmful ones are simply not based on truth, rather a single negative experience, or just learned prejudice/racism. the movie is nuanced, it shows both sides, which just makes it even better :)

@@jerrylouis8930 My guy, not all stereotypes are false. And not all stereotypes are necessarily harmful. There are certainly some harmful ones though. It really depends on context. As a queer person, some stereotypes about us _are_ true (and of course some aren't). It's more so that stereotypes don't always apply to _everyone_ in a particular group, but they still apply to a significant portion of them.

TBH I hope the 2nd movie goes on to represent a relationship between predator and prey as well them being mixed species, it is more of an adult topic but I think it would be a great continuation to the relationship between Judy and Nick.

On February 8, Disney CEO Bob Iger officially confirmed that a Zootopia sequel is in development so I’m excited but sadly they said we could be waiting until 2025 for it😂 so if we waiting this long I really hope they take time to get the plot right and more characters since a couple of people from the original are returning

It never specifies HOW or IF interspecies relationships work. -It’s left open to viewer interpretation whether to ‘ship’ Nick and Judy, or whether they are just good close friends. Assistant Mayor Bellweather? Okay, more backstory could always be fun, but we see enough of how put-upon she is by Lionheart to give ample explanation for her motive without needing anything further.

In countries where the name “Zootopia” (or a a translated equivalent) wasn’t available, they called it “Zootropolis”. And in Germany, that name wasn’t available either, so they call it “Zoomania” there.

The cute thing isn’t because cross breeding is prohibited it’s more that it comes off as condescending. Kinda like if a little person met another little person and said “oh you’re so cute!” It’s more equal but if someone of average height meets a little person and says “oh you’re so cute!” It’d feel a bit patronizing.

But in markets where the name Zootopia (or anything really similar) was already trademarked or otherwise unavailable, they used Zootropolis. And in Germany, where that name was also unavailable, it’s Zoomania.
