Rob , next time you get a find like this , use a micro-fibre mit instead of a sponge, far less likely to scratch the surface further by grinding it back in , sponges should be confined to history !.Great content as always , always a treat to get a new upload !

Oh NO Rob......don't shampoo first you'll make any fine scratches worse. I would recommend snow foam first then pressure rinse then shampoo using 2 bucket method with grit catcher in each. 1 for shampoo 1 for rinseing sponge.

Don't listen to them Rob. Rinse first as it gets rid of all the loose muck, and prevents you dragging it across the paintwork with the sponge. So, power wash, wash, then rinse.

Rob mate it would be definitely worth investing in a snow foam attachment for your jet wash to get the initial debris and dirt off you can pick them up cheap off Ebay.

You were right the first time with the car washing, always wet down first, then wash, then rinse or you're just asking for anything stuck on the paintwork to get dragged across and give you nasty scratches. She's come up amazingly well and was obviously a well-loved car when she got parked up as Pug paint tends to be quite soft and shows lots of marks if the car hasn't been cared for...

Rob that was the most painful car was ever ...its a wonder theres any paint left on that bonnet..you startd off ok with sponge then you was about 5 mil away from the car, with a high powered jet was...you should been a least a foot away ...wash with sponge first them deploy the high washer ....great video anyway 👊🍻👊🍻👊🍻👊👍

A few years back I got clamped in London. I had to go to the police underground car park at Hyde Park to pay to have the clamp removed. There were hundreds of cars parked there. I asked the copper what were they. He said they were cars that had been towed away and the owners had never come to claim them back. There were Beamers, Mercs all sorts, quite late models some of them. He said every so often they auction them off, absolutely unbelievable. Ever been down there Rob, don't know if it's still there.

I think when you were told to shampoo first they meant spray on to soak the grime then jet off then touch wash. I nearly cried 😭 when you started in with a sponge😭 and so relieved when you switched to jetting! 😁 Cracking little car, they were all the rage with driving instructors, (though not GTi) back in the day. That is going to look the mutts when you finish with it.

Who thinks its a good idea to not rinse off first then? Rinsing it loosens all the dirt so you don't have to work so hard with a sponge! Hitting it dry means you are scratching it all trying to get the dirt off instead of it just falling away. I usually wash my car after it's been raining.

You should consider the two bucket method, one bucket with clear water to rinse the sponge, and the other with shampoo. After each panel, rinse the sponge in clear water first to remove the grit from it, then dip in shampoo water to apply to the car, this prevents rubbing grit into the paint and making swirl marks. But I know this car was so filthy it didn't matter anyway !

Being a valeter for living the best method to clean a car is always rinse it 1st to remove any debris or loose dirty then shampoo clean and then rinse but if you to go the extra distance coat the car in TFR or Pre wash before you shampoo

Agree with the comments re the sponge, and the two bucket method (with gritguards). As you have a Karcher PW, they do a Snowfoam attachment and if you had used snow foam after the first go over with the PW, it would have helped to dissolve the grime that the car was covered in. Before using polish, get a clay bar and detailer spray and go over the paintwork. There are tutorials on KZbin to help. Polished well that car will look stunning.
