So here we go.......... My first ever "real" Wild camp!
I decided on Dartmoor National Park and parked at Meldon Reservoir.
To avoid making the same mistake as me, here's a link to the website where you can check the areas you're allowed to wild camp 😊
www.dartmoor.g...
Tent - Vango Banshee 200
Sleep Mat - Thermarest Neoair Xtherm
Sleeping Bag - OEX Leviathan EV 900
Thank you to everyone for the likes, subs and encouraging comments. You're continued support is overwhelming and heartwarming ❤️
If you would like to support my channel and buy me a coffee it would be greatly appreciated 😊

At the start in the car driving shots… the thing behind your right shoulder is called a ‘seatbelt’…. Particularly useful when your driving is being distracted by making a movie! 😀

DEAR JEMS I HAVE BEEN BACKPACKING AND CAMPING FOR ABOUT 35 YEARS. I AM STILL AMAZED THAT I AM STILL LEARNING. NEW PRODUCTS ETC. I WOULD SUGGEST YOU MAKE A LIST OF EVERYTHING YOU NEED FOR WINTER CAMPING, SUMMER CAMPING AND BACKPACKING BECAUSE THEY WILL ALL DIFFER TO SOME DEGREE. ONCE COMPLETE LAMINATE THEM THEN NEXT TIME YOU GO OFF ON AN ADVENTURE TICK OFF EACH ITEM AS YOU PACK THEM. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK STAY SAFE. STEVE.

Getting out, wild camping, its just the best thing for the soul. So glad to see someone documenting their own personal journey through the early days. I have five days/nights camping coming up next week and, even although I am seasoned camper, I still get excited and find myself counting down the days. Pillows are quite personal, with lots to choose from, but I am happy with my Trekology ALUFT 2.0.

Dartmoor for your first wild camp. Talk about jumping in at the deep end. You're brave, bravo! A stunning location too! Checklists! Use checklists to ensure you pack what is needed. Mostly it will remain unchanged so you get used to the essentials. It's when the environment or season change where you will need to add/remove items. If I may, I would like you to consider where you pitch your tent. Whilst it may seem logical to pitch so that it gives you good views, you want to ensure the most rigid part faces the wind. It will add stability to your tent and should reduce much of the wind that may seep through a 3-season tent. Obviously, the ground needs to be as flat as possible but as this can be difficult, try to avoid having your head end (where you head will be when you're sleeping) lower than your feet. You'll have a terrible headache in the morning. Conversely, with your head higher than your feet, you may find you slip down your mat. Trial and error is a good way to learn. Re-pitching a tent doesn't take long, so don't be afraid to do this. Coffee. For luxury, take a moka stove pot (I have a small, single cup version), a hand turned grinder and fresh beans. Honestly, waking up to the smell and taste of that, whist breathing in the clean early morning air, is a magical experience. I use MagicMap when planning camping routes and pitching locations. It's brilliant magic.defra.gov.uk/MagicMap.aspx

You did amazing chica!! For real I give u a shout out from the USA 🇺🇸 and I'm letting u know u rocked it cuz oh my god we all mess up somehow someway on every single trip we plan and execute. Things just go wrong but at least u found it hilarious cuz that's all u can do...just crack up at how dumb and forgetful we all can be. Especially when it's vital to do it perfect. Haha. But keep tearing up those trails and rock on!! I'm sending u good energy from Minnesota the state in the USA.!!! Peace ✌ out🤗

Brilliant site you chose Jemma! Great job on your first proper wild camp. Your learning and that is the start. I'm Looking forward to many more to come love! A tip if I may, There are many wild campers and bushcrafters out there that are more than happy to share their knowledge. So don't be afraid to ask. Cheers love!

Thanks so much! The WC and bushcraft community seem so friendly. If I'm struggling I'll always ask but some things are best learnt for yourself 😁

Great first solo wild camp Jem well done a big success and what a spot to pitch up albeit illegal (the wild camping police will be on to you) 🤣 we all make mistakes that's how we learn you left no trace so alls well, you are so natural on your videos so keep them coming, jem four litres of water weights 4kilos get yourself a water filter dartmoor is abundant with water you could save about 3 kilos in weight, I use a Sawer squeeze it's bee excellent, just a thought, Enjoyed watching, Keep safe and, Les.

Thanks so much Lee! I had a sawyer on me aswell just in case. I haven't ever used it though and as I wasn't walking far thought the extra weight would do me good and get me used to carrying a heavy load 💪
