There are not 500,000 kids missing in this country. That number was taken from a report about the number of missing child reports that are filed. One child can have a dozen reports filed. NCMEC only lists between 4,000 and 5,000 active missing cases and couple hundred of these are cases of missing children from decades ago, who, if they weren't killed or died at the time they went missing, would be either elderly or dead now.
