Man, my coaches in my final two years of school absolutely killed any fun I had playing sports because of how much they favored players who were the kids of their friends.

Live in a small town where the players grew up in the church with the coach and the parents are friends of the coach. Also the parents are president of the booster clubs that sponsor our team.

@@ceejay7803 that sucks. For us it took out the momentum we built our first two years of HS.

@@tel4650 same here. What hurts is all the state media had us predicted to win it all. And we came up short due to politics and injuries

I'm glad that this video represents many different sports. I used your tips for a basketball coach that was very negative and played favorites it definitely helped me keep my confidence and mentality through the season.

I had coaches in highschool who had favorites and they never taught the guys who weren’t as known as much as they taught the more popular guys. I was one of the less known ones so I knew what it was like to even be ignored during film sessions. It was a very difficult environment to play in. I wasn’t having fun, team morale was horrible (explains our 3-9 season) then that’s when I found coach Grant’s insta and I blossomed skill wise, mental wise and overall just became a better player and the other guys in the WR room liked being around me because there was so much they were learning from me when it all came out of coach Grant’s youtube and socials. Literally every valuable on-field lesson I’ve learned as a football player came from you coach.

As a new youth tackle football coach, it was funny to hear about your interactions with the other coaching staff 5:55. Now you just need to make a video on how to deal with parents and those other egotistical coaches!

for me it’s my trainers, they kinda just do the bare minimum and have a lazy attitude towards their job and it sucks because i feel like they’re a big part of the team. it’s also tough because i know they go thru a lot but it feels like they don’t care whether our bodies are fully healthy or not. it’s mainly up to us players to make sure we’re in shape for a game

I had a messed up hamstring and I trusted the trainers to get me on the road to recovery. Instead, they made it worse and I ended up going to a physical therapist instead and only now it’s been working

I have a coach that “plays favorites” and no matter what I do he still just doesn’t want me to touch the field. I’ve tried working in on scout and he’s complimented my ability on scout but still doesn’t give me any reps or even look at me. It’s highly frustrating to go to practice 4x a week and not touch the field Friday nights. I’ve tried asking to work in on specials teams but he told me no. What can I do to even get reps during practice?

Great advice for both coaches and players. You are right…..you gotta ball with your own technique for the coaches to get off your ass.

100% at the end of the day they just want results. Not gonna break every “bad habit” when the season starts so I wish coaches would lay off on most things. But if you win, they start to care less

hey coach, just started playing tackle for my team acouple of weeks ago. Trying to play for the qb spot, however, since i have a late start, i went to coaches and players multiple times, asking for the playbook to learn everything before the season starts. The only thing the coach tells me is to pay attention in practice, not investing any time to give me the plays to learn by myself due to the fact his son is the starting qb. any recommendations on what i could ask the coach or how i could handle this situation? I am trying to get acquainted with the offense and get reps before the season begins, thanks

So in youth football it’s actually unfortunately normal for there not to be a playbook. What you can do is keep asking one of the WRs and the other QBs what the plays are and bring a notebook so after practice when the info is fresh, write out all of the plays you can do. Also I’d ask a million questions to coaches throughout practice about plays and Route combos

Coach Grant so I’m a wide receiver I’m thin but I’m 6 foot and can catch but we are doing all of the offensive is doing on air and the coaches asked for some players to go be a defensive and I get put at free safety I do everything I was told to do there I’m doing good and one play the receiver are both on the same side I see that nobody is coming to get the slot receiver and my receiver coach tells me to go to outside linebacker so I go and nobody tells me what coverage so I do my best with what I got and I proceed to stay on the guy in front of me and I see the Qd looking at this tight end he is wide open and I’m in the middle of the field at this point and so I booked it straight to him and I try to get the interception but i couldn’t and I tap it but it was enough to make it hit the ground and then the assistant coach proceed it cusses me out and called me every name in the book so can you tell me where I went wrong

Ya know honestly I think he might just be upset because you left your assignment from what it seems like. I would just try to do what he says and let the other defensive players do their responsibility. I personally like what you did, I think that’s a great football play but some coaches on defense want you to just solely focus on your responsibilities in coverage and zone
