Who needs who more? Maldives: $17,558 or India: $2,847. India's annual GDP per capita is $2,847. When you minus food cost, medical bills, living expenses for your family of 6. How can they possibly even afford to go on a holiday? According to a US, UK and German report. India's hunger index went from 107 last year to 111 this year. Which is even below countries like North Korea. India is barely surviving.

I'm from the UK, and the monthly cost of a single-bedroom apartment is more than the entire GDP per capita income of an Indian per year. I need at least $3,500 a month to survive. I find it incredible that Indians could survive on $2,800 a year. You can't imagine their horrific living conditions; just look at Dharavi.

@@tedoneilclark4710 Americans who have a home address seldom starve because we can apply for food stamps (which *requires* a home address.) In America, no one needs to starve, except for the homeless people. Then there are charities and shelters acting as bulwarks against homelessness and starvation. (Churches help because "taking care of the poor" was a teaching from Jesus who promised the *eternal* job for Christians -- love each other.) In New York, you can move into the Roosevelt Hotel. It's not exactly Hotel California: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmqbZGx6pbmWqrcsi=A5n_6J9noAs7riZP but we Yankees are frugal people and you can leave. 😊

jobs are losing value daily with massive layoffs, Last year I was working full time budgeting groceries, unable to afford date nights, and missing time with my kids just to make extra money. These days I learn how to make money online, Using my job to finance my goals, You can't be an employee forever everyone should know by now, making extra cashflow interest everyday or weekly should be the goal now.

Big ups to everyone working effortlessly trying to earn a living while building wealth even after the massive layoffs. My wife and I we are both retired with over $2 million in net worth and all paid off debts. living smart and frugal with our money, made it possible for us this early, even till now we earn passively with our asset coach. I'm an old guy now. I lost my job at 47: I have some advice for maybe one of you. Most of you will probably not listen to this: It was not easy to get a good job. It took 10 months. I had saved money which had saved my hide. I got a job with the US Government. Basically, nobody wanted it, but the work was steady. I worked up and made more money and stayed employed. Then I was able to retire with: SS, a pension, and a 401-type program. Some of you can do this. I got laid off or fired it was a pattern. I have heard all the hype about how much I was going to make, but I found it did not work out with the go go companies! Good luck hope this helps somebody!

It's a sugar coated way of saying that the older employees are a burden because they are more costly for the company to afford and new employees come cheap. Think about it, companies value experience and rookies don't have that. The only reason they want rookies is to lighten up their balance sheets and make their profits look bigger and make shareholders more happy in the process.

The best job advice I ever got was as soon as you get hired, start looking for your next job. Companies are only interested in the bottom line, quarter to quarter, month to month, even week to week. You are a simply a faceless cost to be discarded at their convenience. Hate it or love it that is just the way of the world. As soon as you become complacent in your job, you have just screwed yourself over and guess what, it's your fault.

that happened in the 80's, many companies had restructuring, if you were in your 40's or 50's, you were a sitting duck. I remember one company I worked for had a leverage buyout in 87. Sweeping layoffs, buyouts, etc. There was alot of duplication in that company, even I thought was a waste of money. It had a devistating effect on morale thoughout the company. People even quit afterwards because working conditions were so bad. I was ok, however I learned then job security was something of the past. All it mattered was profits. They praise you while your there, however if you threaten to quit they scream, why lets fix whats wrong then they walk away, do nothing. then when they have to cut costs. your just a number. Only people that stayed were bad people. And it continues today. I'm retired. I don't miss it.

IT is the domain that helped many people to move to a better earning and life. You cannot expect it only rise - even stock markets goes through cycle. I have been in the industry for 25 years and have seen most IT employees got opportunities even after lay off. Can you tell how many employees in entertainment, media and joournalism are having a secured job? Please leave the IT indusrty - the capable employees are always employable and they are in a more secured job than anyone else.

Watching "2024: Another Year of Mass Layoffs?" by Palki Sharma on Firstpost is like witnessing a tenant-landlord relationship in flux, where new rules are needed to protect the rights of those who call a place home. The video astutely highlights the unsettling trend of mass layoffs in the corporate world, akin to 'no-fault evictions' in the real estate realm. In the UK, recent legislation to prevent 'no fault evictions' is a step towards safeguarding tenants who've done nothing wrong. A parallel in the corporate world is long overdue. Just as a home provides stability and security, a job too is a cornerstone of an individual's life. Current laws need to evolve further to protect employees who have faithfully served their roles, only to find themselves abruptly on the street. Companies, much like seasoned landlords, should consider playing the long game. Instead of opting for the knee-jerk reaction of layoffs at the slightest economic tremor, they need to think like wise investors who understand the value of nurturing and retaining their assets over time. In real estate, it's about maintaining a property to ensure long-term gains; in business, it's about valuing human capital. Moreover, as AI begins to disrupt the corporate landscape, it's a clarion call for employees to reassess their career paths. It's like knowing a storm is coming and reinforcing your house in preparation. Employees need to equip themselves with new skills and adaptability, foreseeing the AI headwinds that are rapidly reshaping the job market. Palki Sharma's insightful commentary on this pressing issue is commendable. Her points resonate deeply, serving as a reminder that in our relentless pursuit of profitability, we must not lose sight of our basic human empathy and responsibility. In conclusion, as we brace for another year potentially marked by layoffs, it's time for both companies and employees to recalibrate their strategies. For companies, it's about viewing employees not as disposable assets but as integral parts of their long-term success. For individuals, it's about staying agile and prepared for the evolving demands of the AI era. Together, we can strive for a future where profitability and humanity walk hand in hand.

In 2004 to 2010 -- Mass hiring took place -- In one year they hired 10000 people or more due to TIME and Material ( T &M) model where in more people means more business .. every employee time sheet is Billed to the client - This is called Liner growth -- Then came FIXED BID projects where in client is not billed based on time but outcome .. This led to company reducing head count to improve profitability as revenue will remain as it is since it is fixed bid contract -- They call it COST TAKE OUT or Efficiency improvement -- This is not new at all

However, you get to the point where you're making too much and you know you're on your way out. He liked to cut the people who were 2 standard deviations from the mean, income wise. Buy companies, suck the lifeblood out of them then spin them off. So many COE's today who can't drive revenue use this model. I won't even go into some of the accounting we did to meet the numbers. In 2024, there will not be any hiring, promotions are minimal, and seems like every VP has been given a target to fire certain number from their vertical. One of the member of my team (at a lead level) was emailed directly by the VP the night before to show up in their office first thing in the morning. They told the lead, you are laid off. Turn in laptop, badge, everything, and immediately leave. Then a security guard followed the person carrying a box of their stuff all the way out in front of everyone, takes them down the elevator, and ensures that they have left the building physically. It feels like you are being arrested and being carried off in disgrace. The lead had performance issues but in good times you could carry some slack. Now with tightening budget, you are fired.

At the end everyone was noticed about tech advantage no one bothered to learn something new. I know schools fooled us but teachers always was telling just in case learn something new always learn so if something will change u won’t be left behind…now,no new skills keeps many behind…

mass layoff is happening due to the mass hiring that took place during covid. Companies did over anticipation of their business and crazy valuations especially startups. When the free flow of money got stopped and books demanded profits, easier way was to cut jobs and terms it as organization restructuring. People with skills would always be in demand. I advice all folks do check what the company is doing rather not fall bait for their CTC offered.

Sopra steria a french multinational revoked almost 90 percent of their 2023 batch's LOI after making them wait for over 1.5 years. That wont be counted in layoffs as all of them were freshers but now what would they do, nowhere to go no one to complain no law to protect them.
