Personally, I think KD is done playing with Kyrie and wants to separate but floated the idea that he still wants to play with him to get ahead of that narrative and spare the relationship. I don’t mean to malign his character but it does seem like he struggles to be an assertive leader who sets firm boundaries. If they are injured, or the coach doesn’t put them in, they’re still eligible to get paid. However, if a player just chooses not to be available for games, like Ben Simmons did last year, they aren’t eligible. Alternatively, as Philly did with Simmons, the team can fine the player for conduct. I don’t see the Nets going that route with KD. He’s such a desired commodity in the League, the Nets would rather flip him for assets, rather than have his contract on their books while he refuses to suit up.

All this is happening for ONE REASON, and that is that The Nets have not offered Kyrie a long-term extension (after last season ended). Now, whatever your personal feelings are about Kyrie, within the organization, and in outside the organization (and the effects it had on team chemistry) are debatable. But if The Nets came out tomorrow and said that they just signed Kyrie to a 3-year Extension, KD would change the rumors/talk about him wanting to be traded anywhere. This shows me only two things: 1. Kyrie Irving is an egomaniac. He is pouting for not getting a full 5-yrar deal when he hasn't earned it. 2. If KD really is following Kyrie, then he truly does not have a strong sense of who he is. He is worse than a follower. He is an insecure follower. He would be leaving the Nets just because Kyrie is done with the nets. KD does not need Kyrie, and I really hope that it is not true that he is just wanting to play with him on another team. Makes no sense at all.
