Great defensive play by Mikhail Tal! With victims from Fischer! And trolling young Bobby! At the same time, we must also take into account that this is a selection for the world champion crown!

I don't think Bobby had many people in his life that understood him. My opinion, based on having read their works(which I found totally enthralling and informative, limited though my chess understanding is), is that he and Tal had a friendship. They were both outsiders. They were not understood by other chess players. Bobby visiting Tal in his hospital bed was a very big gesture, for both of them. And now they are both gone, save for their works, their masterpieces. Some of the best chess literature that will ever be. But what do I know? I'm a patzer playing cover-guess-move, against the finest chess minds before the silicon mentors. Before them? Alekhine. Casablanca. Lasker. Nimzovich. I do regret that I know less of Magnus and Kasparov. But, I'm just a bloke in a shed, trying to beat, or at least, put up a damn good fight against who? I never know. I've blundered against beginners, yet lasted thirty moves against GM Shamkovich in a simul. I shook his dismissive hand and thought "he's Tal's friend, I've shaken a hand that shook Tal's, Fischer's too." We patzers take what we can get. And will try our best against whoever comes across MY board, because my esteemed chess- gods taught me one thing: never give up. Live Forever, Bobby and Mikhail.

Thanks for the awesome video! Fischer, Tal, Botvinnik, etc, are players I followed in books in early 70s. Still my favorite players!

I'm glad you liked it, I'll try to make more, really unfortunately, there is very little video material from previous years...

Obviously Tal made a gesture to play Caro Kann, but then turned into Sicilian. Funny ! The two were real friends, they never followed the lines of cold war. They did not take chess for a deadly battle. Tal, Fischer and Spasski were great players then and took chess for a piece of art. My impression is that they were all friends, no matter who won.

How do you play the variations in this video, for example, how to play out option 2 after the 12. Nf5 sacrifice?
@VladimirFisher_almost7 күн бұрын
As far as I understand, you are asking how I played out the options? These options were played by my Iron Man, who has a very good level - he beats chess.com & lichess bots :)

This is probably the worst commentary on a game that I've ever seen. Probably the commentator knows nothing about chess, there's no real analysis, it's ridiculous when he says 'Bf4 is a mistake, it allows the opponent to fork pieces'. Huh?? What pieces? btw commentator it's the Nadjorf variation and Tal has made a very unsound pawn grab
@faciendminuend734723 күн бұрын
The N on a4 and the pawn on g2. The terminology is a bit loose, sure, but Bf4 was a mistake according to Fischer himself in his 60 Memorable Games.

Perhaps my English is not good enough to express the thought correctly... Then, tell me how to correctly say that the opponent is attacking the desired two pieces - a knight and a pawn? Is this a fork or not?

@@VladimirFisher_almost After Qc6 black's Queen is attacking white's Knight, I don't see a fork
