Amazing catch man. Ive started chasing big cats and gar about a year ago. My biggest gar is just shy of 5'. What a rush man. I hope I get to experience that kind of power one day.

its 300 pound hollow core braid from jerry brown its expensive but superior to wire in everyway, in 3 years i have yet to have a fish cut through it, i use about 5-6 foot of it as leader

Henry, we saw you get a girth on her, did you do any calculations to estimate her weight? How old might a gar that size be? Would be so cool if you were tagging them, but I reckon there are rules for that.

measurements came out to 210 poounds but i personally think she went a little more then that i couldn't lift her head basically at all. i have tagged them in the passed and probably should be doing it again

its a good question, its a mix of finding the right spot in the river (like backside of a turn in the river) using a heavy enough bait and also trusting the river to put your bait in the same places it would end up if it wasnt attached to a hook because gar search those places regularly
