Thanks for all the supportive comments guys! As for those of you who don't get it, Sorry! It was hard to try to fit the story into such a short amount of time and without dialogue -_- To clarify some things: the scene with the boy fishing is a flashback, the merman gave the boy a scale to remember him, when the human pulls off the scale necklace he is giving up his search for the merman, and the eagle rays are the best wingmen and bring them together.

i find it kinda funny that people are homophobic, i mean if they had met gays when they were kids they may have not become homophobic, i know there was a time when it was considered "wrong" to be gay but most homophobes ive met never got to know any gay people as kids or had a chance to get to know them without having that label mean something bad to them, i remember being told about my cousin sean and how his dad (my uncle) denied that he was gay for years even when others could see it, i understand that since my uncle is pretty old i mean hes a grandpa now and is about 60-70? and when he was young being gay was "wrong" . . . but i grew up with him being openly gay and at that age i really didnt see anything different about him, i still dont, and im glad i have him as a cousin. hes so sweet and in a way he opened my eyes to that side of people, and helped me really understand how being like that is normal, i dont care if someones gay, straight, or bi, so long as they're happy i'm happy to support them ^_^ plus most gay people i've met are WAY nicer than straight people tbh XD

Very tender and lovely short film plus a fresh new take on the "Little Mermaid" story. The animation is just beautiful and innocent- it really speaks to the child within us all. I find the plot of the film intriguing and ironic since the original fairy tale written by Hans Christian Andersen, shares many similarities to events and letters between Anderson and his good friend Edvard Collin. Andersen wrote letters to Collin that clearly exposed his romantic interests in his friend, though it is known that these interests were rejected. Anderson was also interested in a few other men throughout his life, so it is reasonably confirmed that he was gay or bisexual. The theory is that the mermaid represents Andersen, the prince is Collin, and the princess from another Kingdom is Collin's then fiancee. It is definitely possible Andersen took inspiration from his romantic rejection to create this fable, though how closely it follows his feelings for Collin is unknown. Nevertheless, it is amazing how this story takes a Gay standpoint from the classic and I think Andersen would have been proud and moved if he were to see this version. Kudos to everyone who made this sweet story possible!
