I caught a catfish one time that would fit in a Volkswagen

Every catfish I ever caught would fit in a Volkswagen. I even caught some that would fit in a Smart car, a school bus, a Boeing 747, and some that would fit on a motorcycle, or in a Radio Flyer red wagon.

@@davehendricks4824 My brother had a Chevy Malibu that we went catfishing in one time, we used chicken liver for bait; when we left we put the fishing poles and the bait in the trunk. He forgot about the chicken livers in the trunk and drove around for a week wondering what the smell was. After that you couldn't find 4 people that would ride in in the car.

Well, Mr. Cranky, you and Keith did it again. Ya'll done another purty good video. I'm not gonna argue with science, but I gotta say that they are wrong on line color. Crappie don't seem to be line shy (in regards to line color). But an old bass, line color makes them nervous as a long tail cat in a room of rockin chairs. Keep up the great work there, brother. God bless you and your family, and ya'll have a blessed day.

Back in the late 1970's my sister had some friends that scuba dived Cheney Reservoir in south central Kansas. They told her they would never dive near the dam because of the size of the catfish they saw. They would do the rest of the lake, but never again the dam. No claims to car sized fish, only fish big enough that the Kansas kids didn't want to be near them. Always wondered if those divers ever did an ocean. Fish are really big there. And, as muddy as that water is, I've always wondered how they saw anything at all.

I've wondered the samething . I've put Gopros in the lakes and couldn't see anything . I know firefighters that are divers and they say they can't see anything . But they still say they are really big catfish down there lol

The Bay Area of California had the legend of sturgeon the size of cars when the divers were working on the Benicia Bridge. There are some bigass Sturgeon in there. Supposedly they use to pull 1000 pounders out with horses and mules back in the olden days. I'm thinking I heard 1800lbs reported

In the early 80's, my wife and her previous husband were the caretakers of a long time fishing resort at Port Costa called "White's Fishing Resort", that closed in 1985. The Southern Pacific RR tracks ran along the shoreline past the resort. She told me that the train crews heading up to Sacramento would stop and put out a drop line (wire rope) for Sturgeon, and then continue on their way. On the return trip later that day, they would stop and check the lines. She had some old photos from the 60's or 70's (I no longer remember which) that hung in the resort office, showing a drop line attached to a rope, that was tied onto the front of a locomotive, that they used to pull a gigantic Sturgeon out of the water. It could have easily been a 1,000 pounder. I also heard of the stories about the Benicia bridge divers getting the shit scared out of them when they were brushed by something the size of a car. Having seen the old photos, I wouldn't be surprised that the sturgeon legends were true.

Spotsville Kentucky railroad trestle bridge on the green river. There is a 700 foot deep hole there. The Army Corp of engineers sent down divers to check it out back in the 70s. They came out scared to death. Catfish and paddle fish big enough to swallow a man. Fishermen have tried to catch the monsters with saltwater electric reels and steel cable. And still get broke off.

The myths that are almost as fun are the ones on big deep lakes, such as Tahoe, Lake Champlain , Loch Ness, etc. You should compile a list of lakes with "monsters" and then advise us as to the gear you think we'll need to land em.

When I was a kid, we had a big flood that flooded the soybean fields close to where I live. The Point Remove creek runs through this area towards and connects to the AR river. Towards the mid to end of summer, the flood had been long gone and we were in a pretty good draught. I was riding my 3 wheeler down the Point Remove creek, mostly mud with a few feet of water in places. Well I came up on a large brush pile and there was a catfish the size of a sofa! It had got caught in the brush and died. Even though it was rotting, it was freaking huge!

My Daddy told me or repeated a similar story about Santee. He said when divers were needed around the dam, they had to hire out-of-state divers because the catfish (always catfish) were so big. The locals would not dive. Was also told that the freezers had to be cut end-to-end to hold said cats. Long live the legends!

Lakes that freeze up in winter go through to inversions every year. They affect fishing. Spring inversion the warm surface water drops down. The fish go from post spawn to summer fishing habits. The next inversion happens late fall. The cold water at the surface drops . That inversion makes fish suspend. Your fish finder will show targets at all depends and they don't bite or at most light strike. They come out of it and go into winter routine. I don't know if southern waters do that. It sounds like they might to some extent by what you described.

So funny Kentucky dam is where my grandpa "Steve Boros" worked, him and his friends dove down to check for cracks,not to fix the dam...the Volkswagen that he was speaking of was in fact a beetle he drove to work every single day until it caught on fire one day😂 facts Thank you for this video grandpa wasn't afraid of anything I can recall but did request cages for accidental reasons, like one of them get caught in the current and literally go in their mouth! Which he also said the spoonbill seem to be even bigger❤ Me and my brother's have tried our whole life to land one, we've had to cut lines before because was dangerous not much leverage, I even have some Kentucky dam videos of us fishing 🎣 on here and snagging,thanks again I was so amazed to cross that story sense my grandpa came home excited being a fisherman to see such a thing,he would love to know that legend will never die,so maby not your standard Volkswagen, I don't know what I would do even if I got ahold of the one's they saw swimming with the current on the bottom of that massive concrete wall, I would fight it as long as possible just to get a good picture of it on the top of the water.

In the winter months of the year where the lake freezes over the lake water temperature actually flips. Warmer waters down at the bottom and colder waters at the top. So it would make sense to find the deeper ledges. I’m not sure if that applies to lakes that don’t freeze.
@FishinNStuff
@FishinNStuff Жыл бұрын
The bottom never changes much the surface temperature is always effected by the outside temperature . I think of it like a cavern or cave. When it's 90 outside it's 50 degrees in a cavern abs when it's 20 degrees outside it's still 50 degrees in a cavern . It stays stable. That's why they used root cellars in the old days . The water kinda works the same way . Deep lakes with exactly the same way . The fish stay in the middle column of water because they have to choose between the warmer water and oxygen. Deep lakes have very low to no oxygen the deeper you go

Winter has always produced big bass for me. Just have to slow down, and try and drop the bait on their head. I believe I read once that the big bass were more likely to bite in the winter, because of the opportunity and their sluggishness. (A little tip I learned decades ago can help; use some “hot hands” or just your own hands to warm up the lure. Plastics and jugs work best. Sometimes the little bit of extra heat will be sensed and cause a fish to bite when it might not have otherwise.)
