Even though we are nearing the completion of the new boat, we plan on continuing with the boat repair and maintenance content, along with more fishing and cooking Vids. Hope everyone will continue to watch, who knows, we might even tackle a rebuild or restoration project. Maybe you guys have some suggestions for videos you would like to see us do. Technician's Tuesday KZbin channel recommends installing port side outboard engine first. So you can have easy access to wiring if it's on the Starboard side of each engine. More room for you to work.

Great craftmanship, ive watched most episodes and i have never seen such a diligent work. Even every screwhole seems to be perfect. You must have a lot of boat building experience. Have you learned boat building completely by yourself, or do you have some sort of education related to boats?. Is the hull completely your own design, can you tell more about it? Boat looks very seaworthy. I cant wait to see the trials.

Thank you very much! My father was a boatbuilder, so I literally grew up in a boat shop. I have built a number of wood and epoxy fishing skiffs ,a all welded aluminum commercial gillnet boat and close to a dozen composite center consoles. Yes, the hull is completely my design, it is 28ft10inches loa with a 9ft 6 inch beam midship, tapering to 8ft 6inches at the transom. The bottom is a variable deadrise with a average of 17 degrees at the stern. She holds 160 gallons of fuel and 30 gallons of water. Estimated draft is 15 inches, dry weight is around 4500lbs. Max hp 500. Hope that answers some of your questions. Appreciate you watching!

When gel coating, with a roller, can you do sections at a time? Like the transom. Get it squared away. Then do a side. Then the bow, etc. will it blend? I want to try and revel coat a 1979 Checkmate.

Awesome series just finished watching every episode definitely lots of usefull information, I've been wanting to build a few boats myself for personal use, I just had one question one of the ones I'd like to build will be a 32ft center console for off shore fishing and it would a one off hull, do I have to make a plug and mold or could I make and design the plug and then build the hull off of that to save a little time and money? Figured I'd ask the ones with more experience and knowledge. I dont mind sanding qnd smoothing it for the gel coat, i have alot of experience with body work and paint jobs already.
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV 11 ай бұрын
That's awesome! Thanks for watching, Glad you are enjoying the content! No, you do not have to build a mold if you are not planning on building more than one boat. Molds do help to produce a very nice hull, but there is a LOT more additional work involved. I would also recommend starting with a smaller boat as your first build, boats over say 20 ft are a lot harder to build as far as space needed, material usage and just moving around. You might also consider buying a set of plans for an existing design, or a kit boat for your first build. This can eliminate a lot of unknowns, especially if you don't have a background in boatbuilding. Building your own boat is an awesome experience, just be sure to do your research as it can also be very expensive and surprisingly time and space-consuming! Hope this answers some of your questions. Good luck with your project!

@FishBumpTV I appreciate the information and advice, I previously made a 14ft boat in the past but it was from a small mold I was able to purchase, I can definitely atest to the room and time it's absolutely no small task. I looked into some plans but nothing was really what I was wanting on the few wevsit I found, but if you know of any great places for plans I'd appreciate any links. I'm currently thinking of maybe a diesel sterndrive setup maybe incorporating a gear ratio system if need to increase the rpm output to the stern drive to get the efficiency and fuel range of a diesel but the higher cruising speed of a outboard. Definitely will be trying everything smaller scale first and get at least a 60ft shop before undertaking the 30ft hull, just doing research for now

U guys are stoked. Why silicone for the motor bolts and not 5200 or some other marine sealer? As far as I know silicone doesn’t belong on a boat.
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV Жыл бұрын
Silicone works great in certain applications, but it needs to be a high-grade silicone. 5200 is a very permanent sealant- adhesive, with a VERY strong bond. I would not use it when installing outboards.4200 would be the way to go if you wanted that kind of sealant, it has a less aggressive bond. I expect we will be adjusting the motor height for optimal performance and silicone is easier to remove and reapply than some of the other sealants. We also repower every 2-3 years which is a lot more often than most people do, so silicone works just fine for us. But if you do not have a composite transom material like Coosa like this boat has, or will be leaving the same engines on the boat for a very long time I would recommend using 3Ms 4200. Just my opinion. Thanks for watching

Just curious, why 2 150’s over a single 300?
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV Жыл бұрын
A few reasons. First is that the 150s are probably the most reliable of all the Yamaha outboards. Second, we will be fishing offshore, and with clients on board and I like the idea of a second engine if we do have an issue. and third, reduced draft by about 3 to 4 inches because of the motors being off of the center line of the hull. We have some very shallow waters that we have to operate through and sometimes that can help make a difference. With that being said, I think the boat would run very well with a single 300. Thanks for watching and commenting!

The 115 Yamahas are very good motors. I would expect it to be closer to 14-15k with prop, rigging, and installation. 12k would be a pretty good deal in my opinion. I don't think you would be unhappy with that motor. Thanks for watching!

I have ran all of the major brands, including Suzuki before. The Suzuki only lasted 2 seasons before it failed and had to be replaced, and my Suzuki dealer would not warranty it or help me at all.The Yamahas are the best in my opinion. I have had outstanding service and reliability out of them for years and years. A engine failure during our charter season would cost me way more than the price difference between the brands. I don't have any plans to ever run a Suzuki again on any of my boats, sometimes you get what you pay for! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Very nice video. One question though… why so many holes on the transom?
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV 9 ай бұрын
They are water inlets and outlets. This boat has 3 different wells and compartments that can act as live wells. We have to have water in and out for each. Plus the boat is self-bailing, so 2 drains for that. You can see all the fittings installed in previous videos in our boat building series if you want to check it out. Thanks for watching!
@adzhoo
@adzhoo 9 ай бұрын
@@FishBumpTV I find strange to put the inlets on the transom where they cannot provide with a constant water flow as soon as the boat will be planning.
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV 9 ай бұрын
The boat is not finished in this video, and not all hardware had been installed yet. Obviously, you want water to your pumps when the boat is on plane. Traditional bronze thru hulls can create drag and possible turbulence that could cause issues with the transom-mounted transducer we are using. We will be installing transom-mounted scoops that feed water to the inlets. I have used them on other boats with good success. I am not suggesting that this is the best way or the only way to install thru hulls and pumps on a boat. It is just the way I have chosen to do it on my boat. Hope this clears up any confusion. Thanks for watching. @@adzhoo

Not just anybody gets to leave with remote control engines that the dealer didn't rig. You must know people :) That is a lot easier if you hang the port engine and hook everything up before hanging starboard. You get to work off both sides on at least one of them . That's a much bigger thing for a fat boy like me.
@FishBumpTV
@FishBumpTV 11 ай бұрын
Yep, I know a few people. On the new 150 Yamahas all the connections are on the port side or front of the engines, so installing the starboard engine first is easier. I understand a lot of Mercurys are the opposite orientation, in that case, it would make sense to install the port engine first. We don't want to make it any harder than it has to be, that's for sure. Thanks for watching
