Good video, I enjoyed it. I've lived in Tulsa since 1955, I remember when the river was a sewer. But the building of Keystone Dam and the Clean Water Act of 1972 really changed the river for the better although it took some time. People think it's bad now? Man, you should have seen it 60 years ago. Sand Springs was dumping all kinds of industrial waste directly into the water. If you tossed a cigarette into the river it would probably catch on fire. I started fishing it a lot between Tulsa and the dam in the 70's and some amazing things happened. The shad came back. Stripers came with them! And the other fish followed, native to the river at one time. Have you caught any sauger? They're in there. Anyway, great job on the long rod! Flyfishing isn't all that popular in Oklahoma, but it sure is effective. I'm thrilled watching your video and the diversity of species. It's still not a place to go and catch dinner, but fishing isn't about eating, it's about having fun and enjoying the outdoors. Maybe I'll see you out there. I'm old and more cautious now about the sudden water level changes and getting stranded out in the river. That river has taken a lot of lives over the years and demands respect. Take care out there and tight lines to ya!

Thank you for watching and the kind words. It's a great place to fish, I'm glad people were made to change their ways to in order to clean up the river. I have caught multiple sauger there!

Took my young sons walking across this area back in the 80s. Both boys got their legs horribly irritated from benzene in the water. There's a refinery just north of here. Be careful.

I think it's better now. I'm sure there's still some nasty stuff still leaching into the river but I've never had a problem.

I drive down riverside daily and will see guys walking along with some impressive stringers which look like stripers. I've lived here 50 years and have never fished the Arkansas because of poor water quality but apparently the fishing is great. Couple of questions do you do standard tackle fishing and if so would you be willing to take someone with you to learn how to catch some big stripers? Have you or do you ever eat anything you have caught? I know a guy that swares the fish are safe to eat and was bragging about the leg of salmon he ate from there a couple of weeks ago. What are your thoughts?
@OKflyfishing2 ай бұрын
I pretty well just fly fish with very few exceptions, And I do not keep fish. Don't let perceived thoughts on water quality stop you. The Arkansas River has all kinds of cool fish to catch! When you see those guys with the fish stop and ask them, if you fish at all you probably already have the gear already to go after stripers.

I think your buddy might have been pulling your leg a little, there are no salmon in the Ark, never has been, never will be. And salmon don't have legs. But I'd love to sit around a campfire with you guys and have a good laugh! Seriously, it's not a place to catch dinner, but you can have a good time there. Stop by the Red Robin by 101st and Riverside and have the fish and chips after you're done fishing. Next best thing.

I quit fishing in Oklahoma due to how the GOP run state allows toxic dumping into the lakes and rivers. When you see first-hand them backing up trucks on the boat ramps and dumping the foulest smelling sludge into a lake. It's wrong.

Right. You'll make up lies about fish you've never eaten, let alone caught. What you should be worried about is chemicals, preservatives they put in our so called "food" I say so called because it's not really real, let alone fresh. If we stuck with real fruit,vegetables, meats, food that actually spoils all our health would improve
