It cracks me up when content makers apologize for things out of their control like wind. If you’re watching an outdoor channel, you’ve got to expect the creators to have to deal with the environment. Personally, I see no reason to apologize for things you can’t control, so enjoy your trip to Iceland have fun, and don’t worry about the weather. Iceland is beautiful.

The second fish is a Coalfish, it has a straight lateral line, a Pollack is very similar but has a curved lateral line.

Coal fish, Pollack and Saith. The round fish are Pollack or known as Lyth. Coal fish are identical other than them being black, rather than the golden brown tone of. LythPollack, the round fish he is catching. The Lyth flesh is so much whiter when filleted, where the Coalfish flesh is gray and not as good for fish n chips lol, great Fer fish cakes. The flat fish is l own as a Dab. They don’t get much bigger. Coalfish and Pollack are members of the Cod family.

ahhh, got to love the icelandic summer. second fish was ufsi in icelandic. straight lateral line is coalfish, bend in it, its pollack. thats just baby ones, can be a pain to get to the real fish when they are around :D 16:00 is marhnútur, a sculpin in english. flatfish was dab. 22:00 was ýsa = haddock, has what looks like a thumb print behind its head. if you check Petúrs channel you can see some of the decent sized cod and other fish that come out very regularly, all just a few metres from shore - you just got unlucky ;)

I'm sure you must know this, but just in case: Halibut grow to ENORMOUS sizes - the record being over 500LB (smaller ones are delicious, like most flatties). A great fish to target out there, as are Wolf fish. Check them out. The fish you were catching were Coalfish. Pollock are similar, but better (and have a longer bottom lip). Coalfish is often sold as "Coley".

Been watching your stuff for a while, first time commenting! Greetings from Iceland, welcome! 🥳 Thought that thumbnail looked familiar 😁. Staying here for long? The coalfish can be kept, along with most other fish you can catch from the pier. Alot of people catch and eat fish from the piers. The location in Hafnarfjörður is very popular, I fish there sometimes, good times. Hope you enjoy your stay and happy fishing!

Looking at a how to tell the difference, it says the haddock has the top fin pointed and the cod has a round top fin. So that's perfect with the picture showing a cod. Also the body of the cod is darker above the lateral line and the Haddock is lighter in color above the lateral line.

@mikeh82283 ай бұрын
Technically that is a fissure eruption, not an actual volcano. You can see it extends for long distances as a simple fountaining crack. This is because Iceland was formed on the Atlantic seafloor spreading zone and is very unusual because it is the only place on earth that this zone built an island! It is thought because there may have been in the distant past a major asteroid strike that caused a great upwelling of lava (magma) to form the island. Iceland is a growing island, just like the Hawaiian Islands are still growing. They are drifting over a mantle hotspot, where Iceland is stuck on a major crack zone in the mantle! Old retired geologist here! HA HA

Cool! I fished in the saltwater in Sweden and caught a pile of cod and pollack, and I landed in Iceland on my way to Holland and Germany. I'd definitely love to try to catch flat fish there. Edit, the cod I caught looked a little bit like whiting in Florida but with different colors and the scales were smoother. But they had that basic shape.
