Technically the blue cat in many places is considered a naturalized species. That means that they were invasive, but the numbers have stabilized and all the other native species numbers have also stabilized.

Only blue cat I have ever caught was almost 17lbs, not too big. I was crappie fishing a brush pile in February, very light tackle. My bobber barely moved, and then went under a little, like a small bluegill. Was a heck of a fight. Tiny hook, tiny pole, tiny reel, and 4lb test. My friend ended up in the water to get it in. Had to rush him into some heat.

@Bad Cattitude in urban populations the water can be extremely polluted. Most department of wildlife post toxin levels for bigger waterways and consumption ratios. I love catfish too. But have to be smart about "where" we catch them.

Use small sun fish, blue gills, or red breast sun fish. Use them alive or dead, even use 7" or less trout to catch big flatheads
