I headed out of St Lucie Inlet on Florida's Treasure Coast. Fishing for large Snapper on the reef is my favorite, and I wasn't let down. After the disappointment of losing a monster Snapper I hooked up again. This fish didn't feel as big but it was pulling hard. I was shocked when my personal best flag Yellowtail Snapper flashed in the water. At 29 inches and 7.25 pounds it was a monster for the Treasure Coast area. I followed that up with a beautiful Mutton and had plenty of meat on ice. Short Muttons and Sharks were the story as the sun set but I had goal of having some big beautiful fillets for the table.
Tackle used were Shimano Talica, Speedmaster, and Torium reels on Star Paraflex rods. Long 30 and 40 lb fluorocarbon leader 35 to 45 feet in length. 5/0 Gamakatsu Octopus circle hooks. Bait of choice was butterflied Ballyhoo and Bonito belly strips. I use Kingfisher clips for my bank sinkers placed above a Spro 80lb power swivel.
