Cool, thanks for sharing those memories. I used to be a fishing fool and never went anywhere without my old trusty Garcia Mitchell 301 (same as the 300 but left handed, made from 1949-1953.) I have all but given up fishing since I live in California, the licenses are very expensive, you have to buy a separate tag for about every fish, and the rules seem to be different every 100 yards of a river. Some of my favorite catches were done with non-standard equipment. I caught a Dolly Varden trout using a lure I made from a bit of shiny Christmas ribbon I found in the woods and a beard hair tied on for legs. And I once caught a German Brown trout and a huge crawdad that were attracted by my stinky socks soaking at the edge of a creek. I didn't catch even one more fish the rest of the two weeks I was out in the wilderness on a gold claim, mostly because I was more interested in finding gold than getting fish. As a commercial Coho salmon fisherman every time we anchored for the night (rather than just drifting in the ocean) I would drop a crab net. Then get a pot of sea water on the stove so when I pulled the crabs up I could just drop them right into the boiling sea water. Crab is sooo much better fresh cooked in sea water than it is hours or a day, or more, later in salt water.
@Bushradical6 жыл бұрын
Man that would be the best....right from the net into the boiling water. Thats fresh.

One of the best vids I've ever seen. Maybe because I was raised in Fairbanks. I never actually got to do any of that kind of fishing. But as a little kid we camped one time down around Paxon lake. your little Lauson 2.5 was from the mid 1940s- they were odd- air cooled but four stroke. the reason they would get you there but not back was how HOT the gas and everything got- have heard tell from many guys in the antique outboard motor club of driving to a fishing hole with their lauson in the summer, being in the sun, and some time after the motor shut off hearing the gas boiling inside of the tank. yeah, so she wouldn't re-start that hot lol. Lauson was folded into Clinton / Tecumseh and some of their engine designs lived on a bit but long gone now
