Love and enjoy your videos. I’m bumping up my learning curve with intermediate full sinking line and this is the best online tutorial

YOU & I both LOVE river smallmouth... Me? I now use a "Fox Rod" (aka micro-skagit) for single & two-handed spey/skagit casting. 9 or 10 ft 3-piece rods with (small) fighting butts 7 or 8 wt fast-action in the bottom 2 sections 3 or 4 wt soft-action in the tip section THIS IS A FANTASTIC COMBINATION FOR RIVER SMALLMOUTH - the stiffer LOWER sections give you EFFORTLESS POWER for 2-handed 105 ft casts from a 9 or 10 ft rod :-O - the soft TIP section gives you BEND (needed for power) AND "FEEL" for what end up being a day's worth of 10 to 14 inch small mouth that NEED a soft tip so you ENJOY the fight KEEP UP THE GREAT VIDEOS - LOVE your EXPLAIN-it-as-you-actually-DO-it casting techniques !!! -Mark Vogt | VOGTLAND OUTDOORS !

If you were to have one line besides a floater for river smallmouth and streamer fishing large brown trout what would you use? Thanks great videos.

Definitely the Airflo Beach intermediate with the clear head and floating running line.

@@hooked4lifeca having a hard time finding the the airflo beach line. Would the rio outbound short WF7F-I be comparable to the beach line.

@@randymatson5710 Yes and no. Both are intermediates, but the tapers are radically different. I prefer the Beach line as its taper is much nicer for roll and Spey casting. The Outbound would be a better taper for casting large, wind resistant flies. The Beach can handle large flies, but the Outbound would do it better. For medium to smaller flies, the Beach line would definitely produce a better cast. I can't see anywhere on the Rio site about whether or not the running line floats. The Beach line with the clear head, definitely does.

@@hooked4lifeca the way I read it the wf7f-I is a floating line with a 15 ft intermediate clear tip.

@@randymatson5710 I was looking at the full intermediate version of the Outbound Short. The F/I version won't get anywhere near as deep as the full intermediate Beach line. Most of the techniques I mentioned in this video won't work effectively with an F/I line. In the current speed I was fishing in this video, using the same fly, the F/I line would have performed not much different than a full floater as the tip of the F/I would be at most only a couple of inches below the surface.

Previous video you mention that intermediate lines will not hit bottom due to current gravity but now you are saying that your intermediate line is hitting bottom.

Important distinction - in a typical run an intermediate line will not run close to the bottom - unless we want it to. I can make an intermediate line run low if I wish, but if I just let it swing, it will stay higher.

@@hooked4lifeca In fishing an intermediate line in running water, do you use weighted flies? And what is the suggested leader length?
@hooked4lifeca
@hooked4lifeca 3 жыл бұрын
@@ronmarini7261 I use both weighted and unweighted depending on how deep I need to go. I typically use leaders that are much longer than what most people use with a minimum of 6' of thin fluorocarbon. When fishing two handers and intermediate lines I've gone as long as 15'. If we're using unweighted flies that get down well, the longer leader will produce a deeper presentation. When fishing a snaggy pool with an intermediate, I'll shorten my leader to keep the fly off the bottom if it was snagging up with the long leader.

If you could only have one line, salt and freshwater, it would have to be an inter.
