We decided to make a last minute trip down to Jervis Bay over Easter, school holidays still had a week to go and we have some friends down that way so it all lined up nicely. The only issue I had was as exciting as I tried to make driving down from the Gold Coast sound, the rest of the family were on to me and knew I just wanted to put the kayak on the roof, which is true, so we ended up booking flights and hiring a car from Sydney.
For as long as I can remember up until I was a teenager my family would spend every Easter and Christmas holidays down at Jervis Bay for weeks at a time, so it was a blast from the past to get back there after not visiting for a few years and to have my family down there doing the same things my parents did with me was pretty cool. Its a special place.
I gave it my best shot at catching something even resorting to buying a cheep blow up boat but unfortunately the plague of Leather Jackets where impossible to get past and all the waters that allow spearfishing were dirty from rain and swell. I have always been able to catch a few squid or bag a few bread and butter species like bream, Ludrick or Flathead for a feed, but it just wasn’t happening… It was still a great time with the family and I tried my best to scrape together a video, hope you still enjoy it even with the light fish content. Cheers Rod

I have two of the same old Mitchell Abu Garcia reels. No idea how old they are but even back then they had screw in handles. One got dropped hard somewhere along the way so the bail wire is bent but the gears still look good. Planning to restore them one if these days. Already got my ancient Penn 309 from my grandfather back in shape. Just needed a good cleaning actually. Those old reels are amazing. Bought a fiberglass boat rod for it and spooled it with 50lbs mono to keep it old school. Looks great.

I have the same thing. Gonna try fishing in it today, hopefully it'll help me get some bigger fish. It's the only thing I have unfortunately. Only think that makes me nervous is that I wont have enough room to comfortably fish.

Nice work - I got a few trips in over easter as well, but promised to take my youngun out, and he wanted to do a pier for some squid. We got onto half a dozen, and it turned out to be my most enjoyed fishing trip for the week :) My boy is still talking about it, so its certainly worth doing the not so glorious trips for his sake :) Beautiful looking family - good to meet them as well :)

I have a purpose built inflatable fishing boat, it's not meant for fishing in the ocean, it's more of a lake or river fishing boat, but after seeing this video I'm keen on bringing it out on the ocean even if I only go a couple hundred meters out.

I understand where you coming from and do alway promote safety gear as I'm sure you see in may other vids... in this case I felt comfortable with the situation, it was no further out then the little fella paddles on his surfboard in similar conditions by him self. I guess its one of those cases where at some point you have to make a call to trust his skills as he grows up... I also know accidents happen, even to adults... unfortunately if i put him in a safety vest every time we where doing something like this he would live in the PFD.

Do you still enjoy going for a fish off the rocks/land or do you just look out at all that open water wishing you were out further exploring?
@rokkitkit
@rokkitkit 7 жыл бұрын
I'd still be happy casting from the rocks, but I do like getting a bit further out these days... I guess you just get used to what fits in with your life at the time. Kayak work for me at the moment but as the kids get older I can see a tinny fitting in a bit as well... I see lots of guys doing well land based but you really need to have your spots picked out... I haven't done much since I moved up, but if I put some time in I'm sure Id figure it out a bit. As long as I get the line wet its all good.
