Fishing Small Dirt Canals

Had a good morning striper fishing. Called it early for striper and did some bass fishing on the way home. Have not fish these spots in several years. Some of these areas i grew up fishing and just wanted to check them out. Fishing was tough but we were able to catch a few fish.

I enjoy watching Damian's videos because he's always so calm, which is quite pleasing in the morning. Now in my 69th year, I just discovered that the sport fishing is all about never growing old. And after 50 years of bass fishing, I recently choose a whole new experience of fishing the California surf, catching Perch, Strippers and Halibut.

Nice of you to give it to them, I would have done the same although I’d much rather throw it back. Whenever my pops ask me to bring back some bass I tell him you’ll have to come catch them yourselves 😂. If he comes along I’ll give him one and release the rest.

Same, I usually release them. But when people around me ask me for the fish, I sometimes think about it first, if they been catching already then I’ll release it. But if it’s a family or someone who hasn’t caught a fish, I’ll give it to them. They invested a lot of time and money to come out to try to catch dinner. At least they’ll go home with something

Mr. Damian . . . Great going back down "memory lane" with you and good to see your old fishin' "hood". Glad you were able to retrieve your square bill . . . was a bit worried you might lose it. You don't think largemouth bass eat well 😮? Interesting 🤔. I find them to eat quite well. Really nice of you to give that last fish to those folks. As long as they cook it thoroughly, worms shouldn't be problem . . . I understand it doesn't sound too appetizing. I just hope they don't eat fish with worms on a daily basis though. Always good to watch one of your vids.

Most body of fisheries are different from year to year. One year can be really good and some years it's just not. I remembered years and years ago I used to catch em on topwater frog during March in one of those canals and they were abundant. Now a days it's different, oh and I used to catch em stripers from those canals and I'm not talking about the dmc 😅

Yeah most the dirt canals I like to fish with heavy Matts are all blown out this year. Was gonna go frog them but the current blew it out. The previous years we didn’t have rain so there was a lot of frog stuff.

I think it’s fine. Keeping a few won’t hurt. It’s keeping the big ones that hurt the fisheries. Takes much longer for a fish to reach that 4-7lb class. But keeping the 1-2lb class fish helps other fish grow to that larger class. There’s too much competition for food so those fish in the 1-2lb won’t grow as fast. After I’ve got my fish finders, I realized there’s so much fish out there. They just become conditioned and smarter so makes it much harder to catch them.

I did, there’s plenty of bass there. People harvesting small ones won’t do anything other than help the fishery. they ended up just taking photos with it then releasing it anyways
