Super nice variant of the FG knot with a Rizutto lockdown. Maybe also do a “half hitch” on the tail, close to the knot before burning. That will certainly secure that the braid do not splice up in to the Rizutto knot. Awesome good take, big thanks for new easyer ways to great knots😃👌

I guess this is good for certain types of fishing and depends on what your targeting. I do a lot of inshore for tog, summer flounder, striped bass, stuff like that. My double uni for 10lb or 15lb braid to 15lb - 30lb fluro has let me down rarely. I just think this is overkill if your trying to hurry up and tie another leader on while the bite is good. IMO

For lighter leader like 30lb it might be overkill, but when your using heavy leader the small diameter of the knot makes it so much more easier to cast through your guides, which makes it worth it to spend the extra minute to tie a knot like this or an FG IMO

I like the video, it's clear what you're doing. This knot, until about 04:00 and the finishing half hitches and such are added, is an icicle hitch. It's excellent for rigid poles/posts. It tends to separate between wraps as it's loaded which may be why some comments indicate that it either fell apart or slipped: the mono may flex too much to keep the icicle hitch structure in its needed form to hold fast. I dunno about that...but it starts as an icicle hitch. Doesn't change the fact that you did a nice job making the video and conveying how to tie the knot.

I use 15lb PP & 12lb floro. I agree. It's a little tricky but I've never had one fail myself. All four tied prior to spring walleye season are still on and doing well after a lot of trips out. I suggest tying them at home at your dining room table or somewhere with controlled conditions.

I use .6 or 14lb YGK X8 and it is very slick. I have found that when I tie this knot I have to tighten the mainline braid first. If I pull on the mainline braid and tag end to cinch the knot, it will slip every time. Sometimes I have to tie it 2-3 times to get it to bite, but once it does, the knot is solid and goes through the small guides really well.

Sometimes people don’t realize how VERY important it is to finish the knot off after cinching the main knot and I do it the exact same way. Sometimes that braid tag end will fray and keep coming apart deep into the knot until it fails. Plus the knots you finish with give the main knot a slight taper that helps when the knot passes through the line guide and rod eyes on the cast.
@oilrigfishing Жыл бұрын

I also don't let my bead or weight go through the knot 😉 and I'll typically tie my bead and weight above the leader, and on my main so that there's never any resistance when the fish is pulling drag. Most people will use 2 beads one to protect the hook knot and the other to protect the Alberto sg or whatever they are using but I wanted to reduce that

@peterheinrichs763418 күн бұрын
I'd like to suggest an improvment the your knot: You made the final knots around leader plus main. If you'd make just a couple of half knots around both, it would end up perfectly safe. I'd tie the final knots only around the main line. These knots would protect the main line from friction between the (melted or sharp) end of the leader and the braid.
@alansteinle7632 Жыл бұрын
Going to give this one a try. In my experience, after around 100 casts the FG becomes weak due to it impacting the guides when cast. Granted, I'm often casting for max distance so the knot gets beat up pretty good.

Try a series of half hitches above the cut end of the monofilament. Then finish with the finishing knot from this video (Rizzoli?). Sometimes I will stack several finishing knots in sequence. This beefs up the the front end that gets bashed on it's way through the guides. And if one fails, cut excess and melt braid at top of next knot.

It's another version of the Yucatan knot....any proven knot will work if it's tied correctly,.. but the finish whipping is key! I would have tapered the mono tag end before the finished knot ... so your line.. whether going out or coming in through the guides, becomes much smoother .... my leader wraps around the spool 4/5 times because I sling heavy lures and don't snap off... Don't forget to superglue the finish so it never unravels. 👍😎🤙

The next big innovation in line will be the elimination of knots between braid and fluorocarbon and use of a bonding agent and/or a small micro sleeve each line end can feed into and be sealed with heat or epoxy to bond the two lines together. People hate tying knots and a good engineer will put an end to the cumbersome knots. I am working on some innovations now to solve this problem..
@lornehargis26142 жыл бұрын
Seems that by doubling the braid you accomplish the similar task as the FG wraps. Have you thought about cutting the leader before the finishing half hitches ti bury the small tag? Seems the little tag left over could get caught in the guide. Good explanation video. Should take about a minute to tie with practice.
@koogle6122 жыл бұрын
If you will notice the tag of the fluoro leader mushroomed you will see its on the back side of the knot (when casting) so it should have no affect on a clean smooth exit. Ive buried the tag myself with alternating 1/2 hitches then the 5-10 whipping wraps & a dot of glue just on the rizutto portion but that is actually bulkier than the way shown. I suppose a solution could be cutting a taper in the fluoro then half hitching up to its end & then the rizutto but then you lose that insurance of the mushroom tip for when the line gets maxed out. Be worth a try just to answer the question though.
