I haven't tried salmon fishing yet. I was going to try near Ontario Lake two weeks later. That is how I got into your educational videos. I learned from your videos that salmon fishing is not only about coming home with fish meat. It is also about being surrounded by quiet nature.....so relaxing action of tension on line between my hand and fish. Catch and release..being part of nature..I decided to leave this comment on this post when I see drone view (4:57) Thank you. Your videos are almost meditation.

Wonderful video as all your films are! Happy memories of two months of fishing on the Vedder. Shows the effectiveness and success of the hatchery. Always had a pancake in McDonalds before fishing at 6 o’clock in the morning and enjoying the company of the hatchery staff. I now live very near the mighty Moy in Ireland and will be trying your methods for salmon fishing here. It is ideal for the type of river that it is. One day I will come back and fish some of my favorite haunts on your wonderful Vedder.

Hi Rodney! Do we need to buy a tidal waters license to target salmon in a river? My friends want to try it out this year on the Vedder, but we are unsure on this point. Thanks!!!

You'd need a freshwater fishing licence if you are fishing the Chilliwack/Vedder River. www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/region_two/chilliwack_river.html www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/river_fishing/chilliwack_river_fall_salmon_fishery.html

Chum can be good eating if still silver.They need to be cooked and eaten and not served as left-over the next day. Either that or smoked like jerky. The other salmon species are preferred.Good to see riverfishing vids. Cheers from Sooke B.C.

We are incredibly spoiled here. This river is actually by our house and can be considered as fairly urbanized. BC is a largely untouched compared to other parts of the world.

@@FishingwithRod I know the feeling. I also have few rivers that you can drink from, within 10-15 minutes drive distance. But there is no so many fish in them :/

If you do use bait, do you use the bait on the marioubo jig or bait alone
@FishingwithRod5 жыл бұрын
Yep, sometimes we like to thread a shrimp on that jig hook, but bait isn't really necessary for chum salmon. They are often so aggressive that well dressed jig is enough to entice them.

Hey rod luv the vid i always dedicate at least one day a year to flyfishing for chum :) always lots of fun... I happened to notice this year that there were lots of really fresh chum i even got some that were still all chrome. Ive never seen them this clean befor did u notice the same thing???
@FishingwithRod6 жыл бұрын
It's pretty typical actually. On the Chilliwack/Vedder River, it's not unusual to see them from late October until the end of the season. This has been my observations since the late 90's. From anglers who have fished it longer than me, I have been told that bright silver fish used to be found until late December. The latest I've encountered them was the first week of December.
@osheaferrero77586 жыл бұрын
@@FishingwithRod hmm interesting ive only started getting onto the vedder system ive always been more a chehalis man but it is getting harder and harder to find good runs that are accessible so i did a few vedder trips this year and was pleasently suprised

How bad is the combat fishing on the Veddar? I don't care about casting spinners/spoons/twitching in combat fishing, but casting floats is another story
@FishingwithRod3 жыл бұрын
The Vedder River is the most heavily fished river in BC. If you don't want to fish in a crowd, then walk along the river until you find spots where no one else is fishing. They do exist.

@FishingwithRod6 жыл бұрын
Chum salmon, despite of what most believe, can be excellent for eating when they are fresh. Mushy meat are found in old salmon, regardless what species we are talking about. Bright silver chum salmon can be hot or cold smoked, marinated and grilled, eaten raw as sashimi, battered and deep fried as fish and chips, etc. There are numerous ways to prepare and enjoy them.

@@FishingwithRodI think the question is asking for where it is on Vedder River, your answer sounds like pretending not to understand, it is unnecessary to keep such a simple fact as a secret. I watched a lot of your posts and found you always tried to evade to answer such inquiries. This is not a gentleman's behaviour. I don't think those new anglers will obstacle your fishing activities if you could tell wherre you fish but it will help those new anglers to find a direction in their fishing adventures. You have done a very nice job in your postings and I like to come to your site. Keep up the good work and be real help to those new anglers please.
@FishingwithRod3 жыл бұрын
@@Jim5myli I made it quite clear from the very beginning in all of my videos that I am more than willing to share any information to assist anglers, EXCEPT specific fishing locations. How anyone access fishing locations don't really impact my experiences. It's a huge province, the Vedder River is a long river, there are plenty of places for me to go. That said, it would be irresponsible for me to share locations for two reasons. It creates a bad habit and unrealistic expectations among new anglers, I repeatedly emphasize in these videos that locations don't matter, but rather the timing does so I highly encourage all to get out there and explore to find out when a particular spot can be productive. Secondly, this is a reasonably large platform and I do not want to draw attention to specific locations and ruin the experiences of other anglers who have already been enjoying those spots.
