The “twink” did not assault the women, he stood by and let the other men do it. That’s why he smelled different. After he watched the men do what they do, he felt guilty so he used the perfume to allow himself to forget. That’s why Channing Tatum’s character told him he’s just as bad for not doing anything to save them

I think the movie is deliberately ambiguous about Lucas. I think his character could be interpreted either way. Slater did say that Lucas did nothing to protect himself or the women, which indicates to me that he was a victim too. It's not clear that Lucas chose to take the venom, and honestly I like that the movie leaves it open to interpretation. The real bystander was the guard. The guard made the choice to look the other away. Same with Geena Davis' character. She chose to be complicit. Lucas was a kid who got in over his head.

I love some of the symbolism in this. The perfume Desideria is an anagram for Dia De Reis which means day of kings which is obviously a reference to Slater King. And then I love how the serpent in the garden is giving the women the knowledge of good and evil from the trauma by making them remember when the men are seen as God's in the garden of eden. I also loved how they are the red rabbits running from the predators. They are all dressed in white showing their innocence like they don't know whats happeneing to them. But the men are also dressed in white because if the girls dont remember they're essentially innocent too. I think the red chair is interesting because it seems to be the same chair in the interview at the beginning, almost like he took that from the interview as a way to reclaim his sense of control when he is made to apologize for his wrong doings. Then he puts it in his house but it represents basically his throne of lies and sins and it doesn't fit in with the reality of who he is. Its this bright red chair in a mostly blue and white room so it stands out like a sore thumb. So i feel like it's this representation of the worst things he has done and he is trying to integrate it like in therapy, but until he takes accountability for everything at the very end, he can't make it fit. I also love how once you've seen the film, and you rewatch the beginning scenes with Channing Tatum and Frieda's character, you start to interpret his intense eye contact and attention very differently. On first watch yea you know he isnt the good guy, but you could def see how she could interpret his attention as romantic interest in her. But then by the end you actually realize he is a predator stalking his prey in broad daylight. She is being hunted and she doesnt even know and he is basically taunting her. He is staring her dead in the eyes, no blinking, on multiple occasions almost as if he is saying "wow look at this naive, woman. She has no idea who I am or the despicable things we have done to her. All she sees is a tech bullionarie sweeping her off her feet and I am going to take advantage of that in every conceivable way." Its really effective on rewatch.

Excellent analogy of this film. I was trying to figure out the symbolism of the red chair and what you stated made perfect sense. I'm here a month later because I just watched this film yesterday. I would like to hear your thoughts on the young man in the film who obtained the black eye. Subliminally was he a victim too? When I saw his character he seemed childlike. When I saw his black eye I felt he had gotten it from one of the men in the film. Upon the reveal you see him with one of the flowers in his hair and a guy is beating him while the women are being taken advantage of. Was he a representation of what happens to child stars in the industry or am I over thinking it? I am going to watch it again. I liked it, but I walked away wanting more or as if there could be a part two to this movie.
@indiajohnson41492 ай бұрын
@@tracylee4451 I def could get behind him being a stand in for child stars in Hollywood. I guess I saw him as just a man who didn't intervene on behalf of the women, and was therefore complicit in their assault. I saw him similarly to the assistant character. Just someone who stands by, let's it happen. Then he is upset by what the other men are doing, they beat him and then he uses the perfume to forget
@tracylee44512 ай бұрын
@indiajohnson4149 maybe represents both? The flowers in his hair made me think that he could have been assaulted as well. I think all the thoughts we have may be the way the movie wants us to perceive it, possibly? 🤔

This whole movie is a mirror to the awakening of women in Hollywood. These men are so rich they feel entitled to do whatever they want. The women are drugged and demoralized but forced to forget about the abuse they've had to endure. Gina Davis represents old school Hollywood and it pains her too deep to remember so she violently would rather forget and look the other way. Frida represents the awakening and has to symbolically kill off this antiquated way of thought to make room for a new paradigm. Channing's monologue towards the end which spotlights how saying the words, "I'm sorry" means so little in the grand scheme of everything is such a telling moment. Monsters don't want you to forgive, they need you to forget. Women working together to bring ultimate justice is also a powerful revelation. Overall I loved the direction, cinematography and storytelling. A very timely release considering Diddy has just been detained and will probably be spending the rest of his life behind bars for his own version of these sick and twisted fantasies.

To me, the biggest plot hole is the lack of attention given to the damage that would have been caused by the nightly sexual assaults. I am so grateful I have never been in a situation like this but this story was genuinely terrifying to me as a girl! One thing I think this movie did really well (which it ends with us attempts but fails to do) is the scene where Frida is getting on to her friend for going back to her situationship, but then we see her beg her friend not to leave Channing tatumn’s island because it’s the first time she feels visible. As women we can be really judgy to our girlfriends and there’s a stigma where we perceive abused women as weak but it just goes to show you everyone has a weak spot, everyone has a red flag they might excuse, and we can all end up in a situation where we are in harm’s way by a man. Also side note: was I misunderstood or was uma thurman’s son not also being abused on the island? I thought in one of the scenes one of the men was chasing him

Also, inititally, I thought the plot of the movie was going to be that Channing Tatum and the therapist were conducting an experiment on the island seeing how far they could traumatize the women and make them forget with the flower. I thought he was going to say his next big venture as a businessman was developing this as a drug and we were going to see that Channing thought in some sick twisted way he was helping people. It also would have been a good way to explain more of Channing's and Frida's backstories. Like he preys on women who have also experienced deep trauma and thinks he's helping them by spraying them with the perfume.

There was one quick scene, where he pops in on the island party then mentions to Tatum, he had better get back to his mountain. When it is revealed that a drug was being used on the women, that reference made sense. He was concocting the potion.

I thought it was wonderful, and an actual terrifying horror. “Blink Twice” I would say the Black woman version of “Get Out” it’s one of the most smarty done “socially conscious” horror films in years. And the casting of the male characters was so smartly done, because they’re all men that we know for their comedic roles so we’re disarmed by their presence and it’s harder to believe they would do something horrible. I thought of that because I remember the film, “Barbarian” and Justin Long’s casting in movie. Horror as a genre of film is just getting better and better! Love you guys!

For her first time directing I’m very proud of Zoe 👏👏👏 Agree it was predictable, but I was thoroughly entertained. The editing was great to me, both visual and sound. The things that stood out to me were: 1- everyone kept tripping and falling at the end. Like an abundance of tripping and falling. She also fell in the very beginning of the film, and also the previous year. It has to have a deeper meaning. 2- the innocent white granny panties and matching bra all the women were supplied, I guess that makes all the sexual assault more satisfying to these men? The white dresses were very sacrificial like. But here’s the thing- were they each supplied with duplicate outfits or were they wearing the same ones over and over? This surprises me that these women didn’t discuss their outfits at all especially on their girls day. 3- I thought I saw the twink running from one of the men during one of the evening scenes, which made me think he was being assaulted too. Maybe I’m wrong. 4- did anyone else catch the Lenny workout video in the very beginning when Frida was scrolling? Makes me think there were other Easter eggs we may have missed. 5- I was waiting for the indigenous staff to have issue with this white man buying their island but it never happened. 6- I don’t normally say Channing Tatum is a good actor, but in this particular role he was great. Great review as always guys ❤️

It was so jarring. Again and again she was his blind victim and he knew her more than she knew him. So crazy. Love the symbolism throughout the film and the dark, ominous tones!

Spoilers! The red bags = these all had perfume in them I believe. The perfume is what causes memory loss. This is given to all guests leaving so they forget as they leave. They are goodbye goodie bags. But the perfume is also given to the inhabitants of the island daily I believe as well. Red Rabbit = this answer Im 100% sure. Frida the main character had been to the island before as a victim. Last time she was there, she had red rabbit designs on her nails. The caretaker recognized Frida during the movie. She called her “Red rabbit” because she remembered her rabbit design nails. The therapist = it was implied at the end that he played a big role in the horrible abuse cases. I believe in the end, security is scene or heard approaching him

I saw this movie yesterday - the 4:45pm showing in Auditorium 11 at the AMC La Jolla 12 in San Diego, California! I think the music really helped this movie - James Brown "Paid The Cost To Be The Boss", Candi Staton "Young Hearts Run Free", Chaka Kham & Rufus "Ain't Nobody", etc really added to the movie and helped it get through a slog in the middle where the pacing was a bit slow!

my only complaint is that the build up should’ve started much sooner. Considering the nature of what they were being forced to endure, there would’ve been far more warning signs besides some dirt under the nails or a one off bruise. It would’ve helped with the pacing too, especially if they added one or two other girls to the cast, they could’ve had them slowly disappearing as the film went on but never acknowledging it until Frida’s memories come back. Also, I was a little confused by the twink’s role. Was he being abused too? Channing at the end says he’s done “nothing” but I can’t imagine they’d keep him on the island just to brainwash him again every single morning if he’s refusing to participate. That makes him a huge liability and defeats the point of being there. Channing says he doesn’t even know who he is in the first act, so you’re telling me he invited this random twink to rapist island without first making sure said twink is indeed a rapist? That doesn’t make a lick of sense to me

Being sa how can she still be ok marrying dude smelling the perfume And being on the island afterwards without it not causing some type of ptsd. As a person that suffered real sa this ending was unrealistic in my opinion. She was enamored by a monster. Review was 10/10 Movie ...it was ok. Like sa from the standpoint of a person that's never been through it

Seeing it the second time, I am seeing so many Easter eggs that I am not seeing in any other spoiler reviews. Maybe I should do my own? 👀 10/10

My biggest issue, which interestingly speaks to Joseph's issue with Frieda's hair, is the character Frieda is being played by a Black actress but the character herself is not a black woman. As a result, they don't make any allowance for things like if she was spending days on end in the water and sun with no styling/haircare products her little pixie cut would have reverted in some way to her natual texture (and also the stupid "power blunt cut" at the end). More obviously, was the way Frieda was completely unconcerned by the prospect of being on a remote island without access to her phone or any means of escape or contact with the outside world while accompanied by mostly white people. That is just NOT the worldview of a woman, who is also Black. That is not a thing for ANY Black person (see Get Out). Even THE most golddigging of golddiggers accustomed to getting "flew'd out" by various sugar daddies, would have exercised more caution or at the very least been a little more "aware" of situations as they played out. AND Black Girl Code is when one friend wants to leave, we ALL leave. No one gets left behind. Her willingness to allow her friend to go without her was a screaming red flag to me that Frieda wasn't Black. I'm not saying that her character couldn't have found herself in the same position. I'm not saying that we couldn't have had nearly the exact same movie. I'm just saying Blink Twice with a Black actress playing a Black main character would have gotten to possibly these same places in a different way (again, see Get Out or Us). And there were tons of other context clues that while Naomi Ackie is Black, the character Frieda didn’t "read" Black. Also, Zoë kind of alluded to that in her press for the film. She said Naomi was the "best actress for the role" not a Black actress playing a Black role. Small distinction but a distinction nonetheless, that I think explains the hair thing amongst other nonsensical things. Just saying.
