This movie gave very much Stepford Wives + Truman Show + Get Out. It was beautiful to look at the cinematography was awesome but the script sucked. They could've cut out a lot of those repeat scenes and added more substance and depth to the story and characters. The last act was all over the place and the end was hot garbage.

I really wish they would of done a quick flashback sequence showing what each woman left behind….I also think it was interesting that the black woman was the first “defector” of the project. They could of delved more into her storyline since black women have the reputation of being very independent and outspoken ( I’m a black woman)…. Overall , the pacing was very slow until the reveal. Only then is when I really started to become more interested in the plot….Plus Florence and Harry have zero chemistry. I wish Shia wasn’t such a creep, he would have been amazing.

I actually quite liked the movie. Had me scratching my head for a while in a good way. The only bit that made no sense was why Chris Pine’s character’s wife killed his at the end. Never saw a reason for it. Unless she’s was actually the creator of the world controlling him and she saw him as having failed.

A way this movie could of been more interesting is the lead actress being accepting of entering this alternate role and feeling like she did need to leave her stressful life, instead of being forced to do it. I know I would of at least been interested, if someone told me you can leave in a neighborhood where you don't have to worry about anything, except making dinner and cleaning the house. That's when you could of seen her start regretting it because she gets bored or whatever, and instead of leaving, she was forced back by being brainwashed. The moment you forcer her into this world, it feels like every other move we seen of this similar concept. I also wanted to know more about Gemma Chan's character. She seemed like she was orchestrating the world too, but she would of done it differently. I'm just assuming on that one.

I can't wait to hear you all's perspective on this one! The behind the scene drama has been crazy. To me, having not seen this yet, the movie premise is based on a community at an atomic test site with a force field above keeping them "safe" from nuclear fallout. Or, the whole thing is an early version of The Sims video game. We will see!

I just went to see this pretty good review yall. It felt slow-moving they really dragged it out before we got in on the gag. I felt like the Nicole Kidman movie did a better job of letting the audience in on the gag sooner so you could analyze the characters better. The only part of your review I disagree with is your feelings on Harry Styles. He gave me more than what I was expecting of someone with not as much acting experience they had really great chemistry as a couple. I hated the ending and also, I couldn't tell if the wife of the Chris Pine character was the actual mastermind kind of like Glenn Close, or what was going on with that scene, it was way too vague. Thanks for reviewing!

I can see why there was so much cooked up drama around this movie: because the actual product was crap wrapped in a pretty package. The Matrix meets Stepford Wifes! Loved this movie. The beautiful cinematography, and ability to convey Alice's mental state by showing the walls actually closing in on her was so well done! There was subtle insights to convey mood and vibe. The music and 50s clothing, even the food and cocktails really set the tone. The scene at the dinner party between Alice and Frank was tense ...you can see Alice/Florence actually bristle and put on her game face when Frank said he expected more of a challenge from her. Florence was amazing and had a stand out performance. I will watch Everything she is in going forward. THIS was such a well crafted movie with very blatant insights into the wrongness of their situation with strong rules governing any action outside of the what's required of the community. I definitely see Frank/Chris's character framed after someone like Jordan Peterson with his 12 Rules For Life🤣😂🤣 Harry created a believable Jack! I was surprised and happy with his performance. Overall I enjoyed this film ...could there have been more character development for some of the support characters like Shelly and Margaret: Yes! Was their characters essential to the flow of the film: Not really, but it would have been nice🤣

I sat in an near empty cinema in London tonight to see Pugh but lost the will to be interested in this derivative story early on, less of a movie and more made for TV/streaming, Relieved when it finished and also felt bloated on the music score, I left thinking this was a lazy Truman Show rehash with some Matrix thrown in, resented the time I spent on this and travel time.

Great review as always, I appreciate the thoughts. Only thing I began to think about critically was the commentary questioning why any minority would want to participate. I think Franks vision didn’t have anything to do with the actual historical context of the 1950s, just the singular fact that women were more or less subjugated at that time. There was no hint that black people or minorities were to be second class citizens in this simulation. It was strictly based on catering to men who wished to control their female significant other. As we know, any person can have a desire to control their partner, it’s not based on race or any other intrinsic quality. This was based on toxic male desires for control in an intimate relationship which we have seen represented on screen countless times. As controlling behavior is not limited to men, I think it would be more interesting for the story to be told in a different way, with the villains being women, especially with a female director. Would be more unique at least. Was still a cool movie imo, and very creepy. Florence Pugh killed her role as always.

FP didn't like that and said as much in the Harper's article.

I enjoyed the movie, but it felt like there was originally more to this movie that got cut for time. Instead of reworking the script they just left stuff in with no follow through or explanation. They should’ve added more time to flesh out some parts, or spent less time on imagery and Alice’s psychosis. I really think there was supposed to be more about Gemma Chan’s and Chris Pine’s characters but we knew almost nothing about them. Jack was a loser, but it could’ve spent a little more time on him in the real world. His character was very delusional, but I think he truly thought he was doing Alice a favor by keeping her there. He did all of it for her, where as the other men most likely did it for themselves, which is why Frank’s character was interested in them. I thought maybe Frank made her see the plane crashing where headquarters was on purpose since he controls the simulation. I think the point of this movie was to have a conversation about masculinity but it cut out too much of the men’s POV to fully flesh that out.

Love the channel & actually I’m not close friends with Pugh, buuuuttttt we do have mutual friends & I’ve posted this on a few reviews. I saw this movie during a private screening, after a dinner party & Pugh said a few things. One, no one ever brought up The Stepford Wives while filming or at least never to her🤷🏻♂️. She also didn’t say anything disrespectful about Wilde or anyone honestly, she just didn’t feel safe around an actor who wasn’t complying with Covid rules & wasn’t vaccinated, but everyone was supposed to be, so again🤷🏻♂️. The only thing she did say was that she wasn’t doing press because the drama has become toxic & she doesn’t do drama🫶🏼 or want her fans, more importantly, to see her in that way. She saw her fans trying to defend her against trolls & that’s when enough was enough💪🏻 & I applaud her for that. She’s an old soul/free spirit & instead of using the drama to get attention, like some people did, she just stepped back to protect her fans, which says it all🏆. I’ve only met her a few times, but she’s just a normal person, doesn’t act rich, better than anyone we’ve been around, or like a lot of famous people act. And 🧌s come, but I have the dinner party pics & oddly videos of us all trying to rollerblade down a super steep hill, where you see Chastain screaming & fall, but fell into grass😂. Pugh makes this movie & I loved it because of her acting & the cinematography, & no I don’t think I’m bias, we aren’t bffs lol. She just happens to be friends with one of the biggest PR woman in Hollywood & that’s our only connection. We see each other at parties at the house. It’s worth a watch in my opinion. I did get MCU gossip though & OMG cannot wait for Thunderbolts & a little cameo coming on Disney+ & god no. Not She Hulk, now that show is a mess & without the drama. Also, no Pugh didn’t cook lol, she did bring macaroons though😍. No disrespectful BS comments either, I’m just a fan of the channel & trying to stand up for someone I know & I’ll just ignore 🧌s. Now back to this video👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
