I'm back at Mt Lofty Station, in the beautiful Adelaide Hills , to see more trains, and give my block of land a mow! A storm front is on the way, and it will be cold and rainy for the remainder of my visit, but who cares...there's trains and lots of Cafe's in Stirling ! In this video , SCT's West bound services , climb the 2.2% grade to the summit at Mt Lofty Station. The second train, with 4 Chinese built CSR units, is getting close to its' maximum adhesion, as evidence by the high pitch squeal from the traction control's allowable wheelslip.

Thanks Tubby! I like this location as well...and in light rain , the huge pine trees are a good shelter. I did notice the EMD was looking very flash! Cheers Gregg.

@@FishplateFilms What sort of Pine tree are they? I know the Silesians landed in Adelaide first, are they from their homeland or elsewhere? Mt Lofty doesn't look like anywhere else in Australia to me.
@FishplateFilms
@FishplateFilms Жыл бұрын
@@tubbylunchbox5693 I don't know exactly Tubby? When I had the huge ones removed from my block , the arborist did tell me but I forgot! They are not native and are becoming a pest , as they outgrow the local trees. Adelaide was the only ( I think) capital city that was not a convict town , so people chose to move there. The Hills proved popular with the europeans , as they were cooler than the flat plains where the city is.so they planted lots of trees from their home countries. Stirling certainly does have a Euro feel , with all the Oak and Birch trees, and of course the Pines! Can't wait to move there :-) Gregg.

Another great video. What are they doing to the old station? Noticed a fence around it. Was lucky to stay there twice. I know they railway still had signaling equipment under what was the old signal box. When staying there at night you could hear the relays energising. Shame Jim was unable to renew the lease.
@FishplateFilms
@FishplateFilms Жыл бұрын
Thanks Robert! They are replacing most of the ceilings , as the box gutter has been blocked for years. The relay room is /has been relocated to the small white hut at the end of the platform. I always slept in the signal cabin when I stayed...only a few meters from the tracks! I've been in the old relay room when I was chatting to some fellow signal sparkies during a visit. FOnd memories of staying and thats how I found my block:-). Gregg :-)

What are some examples of locomotives operating along the Mount Lofty road that require double or triple the number of units to achieve the same traction? Cheers, Joe.

The NR's are pretty hard to beat for traction , as are the GWU and SCT units. These all require double locos to replace them. Gregg

Thanks Terry! They also grease the sides down the hill a bit, but this one is for a different reason , which I will cover in a future video. Had a great time in Stirling, even with the rain, nice and cool with no humidity! Will be looking for new builders in the new year. Cheers Gregg.

Thanks Scottie! The Overland runs from Adelaide to Melbourne twice a week, but doesn't stop at Lofty. The Adelaide . broad gauge suburban network stops at the bottom of the hill at Belair. Yes they were boxcars! SCT made a big thing out of running " less than container" loads for customers, and it has paid off , as at least half off their trains are box cars. A ot are full of food and are refrigerated . Cheers Gregg.

Hi James, I assume they are both Tsunami's ? If it's an older IM , especially with the old motor, they are a real pain in the ass! The new ones are better I'm told? You have to adjust the fwd and rv trim i(CV 66 795) n the Intermountain. Having the same values means very little, especially with different makes. If you haven't already , watch my video( Programming Tsunami decoders for realistic operation") and see what other cv you need to change. I also have a video on Tsunami 2 if the IM has one of those. Good luck :-)
