You know you and I have the same boat. What I noticed with my 25hp was that if I kept my counter weight in the center of the boat close to my feet it worked better than putting the weight in the front of the boat. Keep it as close to you as you can and push the weight forward slowly until it stops hopping. I got 27 with mine on a good day. I really like how that Tohatsu is pushing that boat bro.

Glad I could help, a 50 Suzuki is certainly an excellent motor. I would take into consideration if you personally intend to do the maintenance or if you’ll be taking it to a dealer. Great vid. I just picked up a '23 Merc 40 on an older mint 16ft Sea Nymph thats just under 500lbs dry weight, was wondering if it was going to be too heavy/too much for this boat. Looks like your 1548 sits just fine, and I assumed with a 16p SS prop I can get mine to 40mph too. Right now its got a 4 blade and guy said it only does 28mph....lol Im guessing its a 12 or 13 but will be great to have as spare or 3 people fishing.
@BuckcreekTV7 ай бұрын
Absolutely certainly doesn't help to have an extra prop. It should be fine on that. 16-footer I'm not too familiar with seeing nips. I believe they are fiberglass correct? The weight on the Mercury's are certainly a lot heavier than the hotsus but for that size boat it should be okay

Nice job on your videos. I have your boat and wanted to do the same upgrade. What I found is while yes a 23 inch transom usually requires a 25 inch outboard these sportsman hulls have an angled transom. The proper fit is a 20 inch. Your challenge is weight distribution with that 4 stroke and the short boat. I bet if you had a 40 Etec 2 stroke you would have far less of an issue. The 2 stroke is lighter. Anyway enjoy your post.
@BuckcreekTV2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it and well worth the upgrade. It really didn’t add much weight to the back of the boat I think it’s only 10-15 pounds difference really between the ultra long shaft and 40 tohatsu still well worth the upgrade
@bfrising2 жыл бұрын
@@BuckcreekTV what’s the difference between the Merc 25 and the 40 Tohatsu. I bet when you run it with trolling motor on that will help. The farther forward/center should help a bunch. Be interesting to see if you can hit 40 mph.

I tried running with that ice chest as far forward as I could get it and it was close to being over 100 pounds and I still have porpoising problems but with the 25 merc on a good day with little to no gear I can get up to 26-27 miles an hour. Even with the porpoising problems and the additional weight of the ice chest I hit 36mph without being able to trim out with a small load I’ve topped 38mph thus far

I have the same boat and I thought the 25hp mercury just wasn't doing. After having this boat for over 5 years, I finally learned why it was so slow. Little did I know, grizzly boats are notorious for having the flotation foam in boat to soak up water, adding several hundreds of pounds of water weight. Overall, it was not the mercury 25hp the problem but the cheap foam tracker puts in its boats that soak up hundreds of pounds of water over time. PLEASE POEPLE, DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID AND BY A GRIZZLY
@omieyouknowme Жыл бұрын
Sorry not a grizzly issue all boats under 20' have this problem. Poor water drainage is the issue, if you store the boat level out in open and it rains or snows it has no way to drain the bildge. Store the boat with nose up to let it drain, if you have water inside the bildge on water then you have a leak
