No. It takes a lot longer than 45 seconds for the oil to come up to temp. This time of year with relatively high ambient temps allows oil to come to temp within 10 minutes on my Evolution. When it's, say, 40F outside the process takes a lot more time.

@@felixf5211 by definition, if u put 10w30 in an evo and 5w30 in a subi the 5w30 will come to temp faster givin the ambient temperatures are the same as the 5w30 will flow faster on cold start thus requiring less kinetic energy to reach operating temp. This is further exaggerated if we are talking about the FB20 that takes 0w20 oil in the new WRXs. Very good video. A few points for emphasis: 1) Choose your parts carefully. While this may seem obvious, more often than not IME folks believe that additional boltons will yield better performance. Maybe, maybe not. Using the EvoX as an example, a tune and boost control will uncork the motor. Most owners add a UICP and a TBE. Neither does a thing for power. The less you mod the more reliable and drivable the experience. Hope that made sense. 2) One cannot overemphasise the importance of the tune on a turbocharged car. Please do not bolt on parts or play with boost without a tune. Definately don't go WOT. Same goes for buying a used turbocharged car. You have no idea what parts it may have been tuned for or whether it was flashed back to stock. Logging is key. There's a lot to be said about this and folks may want to browse the comments in the FI tune video. 3) Get T-bolt clamps. Last thing you want is a boost leak or a pipe popping off in the middle of nowhere. Ask me how I know. First thing I did to my IX. To underline a very important point, frequent oil changes are *crucial*. It's no joke.

OK seriously read this if you have/are gonna buy a turbo car. Last tip, let your turbo cool properly. If you're driving hard and then shut the car down shortly after, your turbo will go from hot to cool much faster than normal, causing excessive wear from heavy heat cycles. If you're driving your car hard, let it idle for a few minutes and bring the temp of your turbo down slowly before you shut it down.

I think you confused a blowoff valve function with a wastegates function. A blowoff valve opens when the throttle closes. a wastegate will open to regulate the total pressure. That's why boosted cars will peak at a certain psi then settle down and be a more steady psi.
@elijahmaurer90395 жыл бұрын
You'll find many professional racers using them interchangeably for boost control although you are right on their "intended" purpose
@99EKjohn5 жыл бұрын
@@elijahmaurer9039 No you won't, the wastegate allows exhaust gasses to flow past the turbine section without interacting with it, regulating boost pressure and turbo speed. A blow off valve keeps the turbo from over pressurizing the intake which would lead to a pressure wave recoiling back into the compression turbine and blowing up. A blow off valve cannot be used to regulate boost pressure safely, if you try to, it will lead to the turbo being over revved and likely blowing up. A wastegate cannot be used to regulate the recoiling of pressure waves that will happen without a blow off valve. They work on opposite sides of the turbo, blow off valves are on the compressor side, wastegates are on the turbine side. There is no physical way for either to do what the other does.

Another thing to point out as a Rookie mistake when it comes to blow off valve. Most turbo cars now a days especially the non crazy race cars come with a Bypass valve not a blow off valve. So instead of venting that excess air/boost pressure to atmosphere giving you that sweet noise you're really just recirculating the air through your system. Now if you throw a BOV in there instead of a BPV, your car will run worse. It can have bad idle run rich or lean. In the end it's not good. If you want that amazing blow off noise and you have a BPV look at getting into a hybrid BOV. It will allow you to run either full vent to atmosphere or full recirculating, or 50/50 of both. I have a Mazdaspeed 6 which comes stock with a BPV. It was leaking boost pressure to upgraded to a turbosmart dual port 50/50 valve. I get sweet noise and I still keep my car running in good shape. Runs a little rich between shifts every now and again but it's a price I'm willing to pay for those noises. So it's a important step you wanna research

Biggest problem people have with boosted cars is really simple. They either 1: buy a small non sporty car with a 1.3l turbo and try to get it tuned up because hey bro boost. And it goes boom 2: tune a sportier boosted car without doing any prep work and oh noo it no go no more Or 3: boost a non boosted car without transmission upgrades.
@dirtyd27495 жыл бұрын
My experience with adjusting the BOV is hooking up a boost leak kit, then adjusting the pressure to my set PSI. I would adjust the tension down to the point it starts leaking. Once leaking I would tighten it just passed the point of it sealing. That way if the waste gate fails to open the BOV will releave some of the pressure & buy me a little time to notice before the big boom. Just my 2 cents.

Two things about idling to get your oil temperature right: - Also do it for a bit when you park up to let your oil cool down evenly and slowly. Things break if they cool down unevenly or too quickly. Your turbo(s) aren't designed to cool themselves down without oil flowing through them. - In the UK it's illegal to leave your car running unattended, and the penalties aren't fun. Just sit in it or stand by it while you're browsing the 'grams (or whatever the kids call it these days) and save yourself the risk of being used to supply the local police's budget.

A stock car has a bypass valve which sends the excess pressure back through the intake to keep the turbo spinning (better throttle response). People put blowoff valves when they put big turbos because a bypass vavle wont deal with the pressure fast enough. Just to correct you on the stock blow off part

I am looking at purchasing and building a 2020 Veloster R-Spec...that being said its a Turbo...One of the first Mods I was looking at is a Boomba Racing® - Blow-Off Valve and this is going to be my first Turbo...and you mentioned "Supporting Mods" what supporting Mods are you saying should be done before a blow-off should be installed? BTW Thank you for all the videos I have found them to be extremely informative in this adventure!

Do some research, but for like my wrx, the boomba bov (which is actually a bypass valve, not a blow off valve), is a direct replacement that doesn't require anything else. It's just not as leaky as the factory one.

Not enough info. What compression ratio? What flow rate injectors and fuel pump? Whats the strength of the valves and springs? Whats the cam timing? Whats the ignition timing? Is it an aftermarket block or is it using a block guard? Do you have crank and cam girdles installed? Etc. etc. Can you build a b18 to handle 40psi, yes, but you can build anything to handle practically anything you want with enough money. The B series is not the best engine to boost because of the open deck design, but if you have enough money you can do whatever you want.

@@99EKjohn to add to this what fuel are you running? do you plan on using AI? how is your engine management? do you plan on upgrading your drivetrain? having target boost figures is putting the cart before the horse, think more in terms of power level.

I just bought my first turbo car in January 2022. First thing I did was add a catch can and change oil to mobile one esp 5w30. Then bunch of go fast parts from zzp. Tune and e85 this summer! I did a lot of reading and research before I bought the car. 14 Cadillac ATS 2.0t rwd. I know the cars problems and weakness and strong points before buying. The pistons are the LTG’s major weak point hence the catch can and Mobil one esp. it’s a low sulfur low ash formulation and helps protect from deposits and knock. Before I upgrade my turbo the weak ass rods and pistons need to be swapped for forged and Zzp’s stage 3 cam. It will eventually be a 500+ whp car.

My Civic has been supercharged for a year and professionally tuned; I'd say (while the mechanics of the SC are less complex) make sure your wear items like pulleys, belts, plugs, fuel pump. Should have been replaced at the same time. I find myself replacing it part by part too often
@sweeper605 жыл бұрын
if you boost your car, turn up the boost baby steps. i started at 4 psi, 6 weeks later I have eventually turned up to 21 psi (max of MAP sensor can read), making 370hp out of my 1.6 sohc shit box (eg civic coupe) - Yes, the block is stock - Yes, there are H-beam rods, low compression pistons and gapped rings. - Yes, there are 1 or 2 things more upgraded in engine. Acctualy, the biggest rooky mistake is - not gaping the piston rings, just slapping on some turbo kit and exploding the engine.

also some another rookie mistake is that some people drive turbo cars (factory or not idgf) without really knowing how to drive it,they are always on boost(overboost sometime) without knowing and also they will then claim that the don't get MPG factory claims(usually for stock car owners)

I’m used to a little turbo lag from my truck, but it’s super quick, I’m talking half a second, because it’s still got the stock VGT in it. I’m about to go look at an E55 AMG. That shouldn’t be too hard of an adjustment, considering I’m used to about 480hp and close to 1000lb-ft of torque. I’m just used to a couple extra thousand pounds. Lol

10:1 compression stock in that engine, don't up the boost to more than 13 psi and definitely not without a tune. You can run 87 octane in those stock so there is some headroom but not a lot. You will have to run 93 octane if you up the boost at all and the tune will likely have to be rich to keep intake and exhaust temperatures down. Best idea, just don't. If you want something to tune and fuck around with, get yourself a cheap fox body mustang with the 302/5.0, or a cheap early 90s import. If you just have to have something more modern, the ford ecoboost 1.6L engines are surprisingly robust and the cars are decently cheap. I really hate having to recommend fords but the 302/5.0 and ecoboost 1.6L are good engines.
@7sins9794 жыл бұрын
18 is probably crossing the knock threshold for your engine and your fuel system may not be safe past factory boost levels. so no don't change your turbo output.

A lot of the same with letting your car warm up to get the oil flowing. When I was younger and knew next to nothing about cars besides HP and looks, I owned a supercharged pontiac grand prix not knowing really what that meant. Got off work one night, fired it up and hit the highway like 1 or 2 minutes away. SENT IT and that thing went up in flames. Granted it was a pontiac... however, looking back, the car sometimes got really hot and I didn't understand why. I kept up with regular maintenance on the car and everything, but I definitely didn't treat it like a supercharged car, never payed attention to warming it up or anything like that. So definitely let the fluids get moving through the engine. That being said, another tip: It never hurts to keep a fire extinguisher in your supercharged car. I probably could've saved the car if I had one, the flames were in a small area when I popped the hood. Could only watch helplessly as they slowly spread, eventually engulfing the entire front end of the car. Hopefully you'll never have to use it, but it never hurts to be safe!

Biggest rookie mistake when you actually boost a car properly and take care of it correctly is not putting the right suspension and wheel and tire setup (mainly on a fwd car) I’ve had a friend whose totaled 2 srt-4’s with bigger turbo setups cause he cheaped out on tires especially and couldn’t keep the car on the road with all the wheel spin and torque steer
