#1 Rookie mistake, buying a car before learning about it. The number of people I have met who regretted not knowing that they should have bought a different year than the year they bought or they should have bought another spec rather than the spec they chose is staggering. Like people who buy N55 BMW 335i cars rather than N54 models. Or someone who buys a 2010 Mustang GT when you need to wait for the 5.0L Coyote in 2011, etc. Not knowing what you are buying or what spec you should be chasing is probably the biggest rookie mistake I encounter. #2 Rookie mistake is trusting the information you read on an aftermarket parts advertisement. Don't read an advertisement that says "installing this part will net you 20 wheel HP" and actually believe it. Often, those "performance gains" are achieved when a car has a bunch of other mods already installed that have made that part the bottle neck. Best bet is to actually research the mod and verify that, yes, in fact it does do what the manufacturer claims. Or at least temper your expectations of what it can do. Otherwise, Alex's list nails it.
@SimbaTheGreat5 жыл бұрын
artsohc ALOT of people who buy the N55 know exactly what they’re getting. The more reliable engine compared to the N54 and a lot of those guys don’t care about making 500+hp at the wheels.

Honestly this video is on point. I’ve been doing KZbin for 4 years, modifying cars for 10 years and been involved in the car scene for 12 and there seems to be a separation between quality build and parts over Hypetrain/IG/Clout LEGO built cars. The younger crowd has bad influence and it could be the end of the car scene.

Lam Le Yo, you are right! These young bucks are just excited to do anything to their car. I think that’s why Alex leads these videos. The younger generation sees Alex and they feel they can relate. The older generation ( myself ) doesn’t judge a book by it’s cover. We listen more....”Oh okay, Alex knows his shit”. The car scene is California is going to shit. We all know why. Is this the end of the car scene? Yes and No. Yes, it’s going to come to an end and the manufacturers will be the ones to slam the nails in the coffin. They’ll try to make it super difficult to mod your car. My answer is also NO. No, it won’t die. Our human spirit won’t allow it. I’m JDM till I die. I think it’s going to cost so much more to mod in the future. My “secret” project cost me 45K to buy the car, wheels and tires 4.5K, bigger air intake, bigger intercooler, oil cooler, piping, blow off valves and a bunch of other shit you’ve never heard of.....can easily add another 10 to 15 thousand dollars. So yeah, in 10 years the younger generation will be stock, because they won’t be able to afford anything beyond that.

Yeah they run a little stiff but honestly for the price I paid($202), quality, and better handling that I got out of it i actually love it. It’s decent enough to daily. I have eBay coilovers, Whiteline 14mm sway bar that I got for a steal! ($87), K&N intake which I had to fab and only paid ($65), OEM 2007 Yaris wheels from the junkyard which cut rotational weight from the stock Steelies(which I sold for $80), wrapped with Performance All Season Kumho Solus TA11, eBay 4-2-1 headers which needed small fab work ($85), and magnaflow hi flow cat ($65) and magnaflow muffler ($55.) this car was built on a mad cheap budget and I kept reliability, handling, and efficiency in mind. I think its all in the details and quality that shows off builds and as long as its what you want, then thats fine. Also simply things like getting custom retrofitted headlights or maybe even get the badges and small accents coated in something unique like rose gold. My wheels rubbed my wheelwells when i swapped to the winterwheels. I remember thinking that i had to fix that the next day, then something came up, then i had to graduate while still driving 120km a day.. result: Tires are still in one piece, the lining of my wheelwells isn't.

This is my favorite from you Alex! Definitely a must watch for everyone!! My biggest mistake was boosting a single cam Honda Civic del Choad with 212k miles and putting an aggressive BASEMAP (not even a tune yet) and then racing the fuck out of it. Long story short, I was NOT surprised when I blew it up 😂

So right now I have a BMW 330ci and I have done all preventative maintenance. The only thing is that it’s automatic and I know people frown upon that. I know what I want to do to my car and have to money to modify some stuff right now. -just got to the part where Alex said to build your car for yourself. So I guess that answers my questions. Still any opinions or suggestions?

Adamdickieson Yes, it’s an e46 2002 BMW 330ci. I spent a lot of money already fixing it up. Was thinking about getting something new that’s manual. I’m also in college so I don’t got the funds like that to restart on a new car. So I was thinking later on when I’m done, I can do a manual swap or even an engine swap. I really do enjoy my car and know the car very well after all the fixing

I've an E46 330d touring 2002. I've upgraded the suspension with AP Suspension which lowered the car 40mm front and 20mm rear and replaced the stock wheels with Fox Motorsport MS007 in carbon grey (17x8j) wearing 225 45 17. Poly bushed when old bushes have needed replacing and the always followed the servicing schedule. This is my family car and is used daily. The has covered 248,880 miles and is still going strong! 👍

Greasy Style just trying to make it look nice right now. I can’t afford into drifting. I want a new paint job (some body work needs to be done), new rims, reupholster the interior, and suspension to lower it.

You know, I get where the rookie gear head might go to Ebay to get super cheap, super sketchy parts, I was there in my early 20's. Honestly, it's a good thing that there are channels like this that can advise the rookies in what the best thing to do is. Myself, I plan to bring a lot more power out of my truck's 7.3L IDI diesel. Not for making my truck faster, but for better towing, and pulling. Conversely, I'm not going to start with my engine, I'm starting with my transmission. In my case, I'm looking to replace my aging E4OD with a heavily upgraded unit from Monster Transmissions. Some might say to start with my suspension and tires, but the thing is, my suspension is built from the factory, perfect for pulling, and my tires are 10 ply, heavy load rated tires. So in turn, that side of the truck is perfect. Not saying I won't upgrade my brakes though, but I do have a little leeway there, as the trailers I will be pulling, will have brakes as well. Also, I'm used to inspecting my equipment, being a proffesional driver.

I think I messed up with these really thick engine mounts. But eventually I'll build another engine on the side to swap in. Non Vtec to Vtec. Other than that I pretty much build it for myself. I'm on a good path then :D I'm glad.

I haven't got myself a car yet, but I'm pretty close I plan to do something really unique, I guess I'll give my plans out here. Maybe you can reply if there's something that can be improved, or just a new idea. Starter Car: Mercedes 190E, preferably a 1.8L or 2.0L model. 1. Short shifter 2. Coil-overs (nothing excessive, just a stiffer ride, and a lower height) 3. Bucket seats 4. Cold air intake 5. Retro 5-spoke rims and newer, sportier tires. 6.A small wing, like the one on the 2.3-16V or the 2.5-16v EVO 1. 7. A metallic paintjob. 8. Bigger and better brakes. 9. LSD 10. Some small engine mods, not looking for mega horsepower, not a fan of turbos either. 11. A new exhaust system. Don't know what else for now, to be honest.

I like how he jokes about having an expensive car is not a mistake because half the people that get them can’t afford them - just because you can make the payment doesn’t mean you can afford it because making 30k a year is nothing and after take home pay it’s about 20k if you don’t have another job
@Christmas.4425 жыл бұрын
The biggest issue I see is people who make 1k a month and think they can afford a car because the month payments are $650 a month. People are dumb. The way I keep money is buy taking half of my monthly income and limiting that amount on bills. So I make 2k a month, max I’ll spend on bills is 1k a month. Granted I only spend about $400 a month lol

There is one mod that I really want to do at my car in 1 or 2 years when I will have a nice engine bay it's a transparent hood, I only have seen one car like this and even on youtube you don't see that much of these (it's pretty "unique" and it's look really nice)
@joshmessinger1135 жыл бұрын

No hate, but what's wrong with the 370z? I have heard that it is a pain in the butt to daily(Mainly because of the blind spots), but I think it is great looking, has great HP, and is pretty cheap if you get it used.
@Christmas.4425 жыл бұрын
Chewy Lewy aftermarket parts are expensive as hell. My buddy has a 350z hr and just spent 4K on full bolt ons which isn’t much. Intakes, throttle body, intake plenum, and r35 injectors. Plus it was 1k for a tune before he asked for the flame map which was an extra $200. They aren’t bad cars, but they really don’t make high hp low 300 to the crank and that’s on the good models. Plus they only have 2 seats which they have their pros and cons.
@jessedhensley15 жыл бұрын
My biggest mistake was adding performance mods to the car i.e cams, intake, exhaust, more on a tune than really needed lol, and then my suspension with coils and camber kits to keep a slight tuck and in the end having no money to get aftermarket rims so I ride the stock 17” long beaches on my car with a decent set of toyo tires
