I was able to fit JL rubicon take offs 285/70/17. They fit no problem with minor grinding. The main issue is the caliper bracket that contacts the wheel, the caliper itself did require some grinding but it was not that bad. The tires come out to a 32.7 and fit on stock suspension, I have steel coils. The issues I ran into the tire will rub through the rear liner and tag the fuel filler neck, and slight rubbing on big bottom outs on the front fenders at the 10:30 o'clock position. Don't be afraid to grind down your caliper bracket and calipers it's not that big of a deal, I have now over 50,000 miles on this configuration. You will want to remove the caliper mount the wheel to mark were grinding is necessary on the bracket, then do the same with the caliper Bolted down. I personally would much rather do this then to reduce braking performance.

I never knew a caliper spreader existed. Thanks again for sharing. Have a great day.

Thanks so much for the video! I have been exhaustively searching for ways to get a 17" wheel on my GC Trailhawk. This is great!

You mean to tell me. I can swap out my hemi HD brake caliper and rotors (which I already need to replace) for a cheap and easy 25-40 dollar part and then can be COMPLETELY OPEN TO a plethora of 17 inch aftermarket wheels?!?!?!? Thank you so damn much for the video man! All the wheels I’ve been looking at for my OME Lift has been stuck with 18 inch - lots available, but all the REALLY cool wheels are 17!!! Happy thanksgiving brother!!!!

Thank you for the video! I want to do the same with my 2015 wk2 limited that doesn’t have quadra or a lift. Do you think it could be a straight swap out?
@ExoticCarDIY

Yes, I think it would be fine. Most the time I was driving in the normal height on the suspension. I had no issues rubbing or anything

I see you said $180 for 2, does that mean you only have to change the front brakes to fit 17’s with the HD brakes?

Correct.

I think I would rather run spacers than lose the HD brakes.
@ExoticCarDIY

Definitely seems easier, but spacers are illegal in several States, Plus they would have definitely rubbed while turning with those tires. To each his own

Can you run 17” with different offset with us brakes

@ExoticCarDIY thank you so much for the video! What are the long term results, any rubbing off-road? Also was this job done with the stock suspension? I was looking at 265/70R17 but if 255/75R17 don’t rub, I will go down this path…

Stock overland suspension, quadrilift so it can go up and down. Offered a numerous times with it no rubbing even at full articulation. I had no issues at all this, break still felt great, I think you got to remember, 75% of the Jeeps have the smaller brakes so it's only really a marginal difference. I did end up finally selling the Jeep last month, I still have the brackets and rotors in case I want to use them on my next build

Great video and idea. Is this only for the front? The rears are smaller evenon the HD rotors?
@ExoticCarDIY
@ExoticCarDIY Жыл бұрын
Rears are different hd vs not... But same diameter (so 17" fit fine on both) The hd rear brakes are vented rotors

No lift, no rub. I will mention my car is an overland with Factor quadralift air suspension which will raise it 4".... But even in regular height I experienced no rub

I have a 2012 Laredo hemi and I want it install rubicon wheels do I have to change them to?
@ExoticCarDIY
@ExoticCarDIY Жыл бұрын
Most likely. Based on my research on the message forums, all the v8s came to the HD brakes. If you want to double check, you can just measure your rotors

I recently bought a 2014 overland and the previous owner already did this swap, for me to get it back to the 20” for the summer time do I need to swap the brakes too or I can use the brakes it already has as long ass they aren’t jacked up?

It's such a marginal difference between V6 brakes and V8 brakes that you're fine no matter what unless you're telling a huge trailer down a mountain. If you wanted to go back to V8 breaks, all you need is the rotor and brackets for the V8.
