Even the Britpart kit has an instruction leaflet saying to discard that washer/spacer.

Hello mike. How did you remove the crankshaft sprocket you have?

Hi Mike. Thanks for posting all of these videos. I get a good laugh out of them and they are very educational. Apologies if you have already addressed this timing belt question in another video but here it is... I have a 1994 Defender 110 300TDI. Apparently earlier models had issues with timing belts shredding until Land Rover issued a recall and fitted a replacement kit. Presumably must have been done but guessing some have been missed. How do we know if it was done? What parts were replaced as part of the upgrade? I heard it was actually the engine cover (casting). Any thoughts? Best, Chris

Chris The timing belt issue originally was the position of the guide for the belt - they moved the guides from the tensioner to the crank pulley A different timing cover gasket was issued with the upgrade that had a a raised notch at the top on the outside so you could identify the conversion had taken place, however I have seen the modern gasket fitted with the old pulleys The timing cover does indeed warp and this was addressed by issuing a modern bracket to hold the pump to the block Also LR reduced the tension on the belt from 15Nm to 11Nm However in a recent video I found the bushes in the injector pump itself get worn due to the belt being over tightened and this causes the belt to run forwards and shred Mike

Thanks for the comprehensive reply! I will look for the notch on my cover. I do know my injector pump has a shinny black mounting bracket and I was always curious why it wasn’t aged with the rest of the engine but it seems you have shed light on that mystery as you mentioned above. Thanks again!
