One down, 3 to go! We got Gary's loaner motor out the door last week, and now were focused on Tracy's motor project. I've stripped it down to a long block, cleaned everything up, and now we're ready to put the cooling tins on. But first we paint! Lets go!

Pretty coo. The fellow who built my engine hand crafted the cooling tin. I call it a barn metal cooling system. I should purchase the factory stuff but it looks kinda funky. You're getting tricky with the camera work.

It's always best to have all the factory tins, with no gaps. That increases the air pressure and forces it in the correct direction. As for the cameras, we need to keep you folks entertained 🤣

Nice, Jason you mention the Andrig’s fan do you have a long term review on your motor with the fan?
@OldVolksTV
@OldVolksTV 2 жыл бұрын
Sadly in the year that I've had that fan I still haven't had it on a running motor. Hoping to change that this weekend when the white 1600 goes in the bus. Then I'll have some info.

Amazing video ! Have you ever heard of using type 3 pieces of tin between the cylinder's fin's they a supposed real help with cooling all so ? I saw it on Mike's f n garage he highly recommends using them ! Using the different fan have you notice huge deafferents in engine temperature ? Thank you !

I actually have them on my bus motor. There's long been a debate on weather they do a good job of cooling. It goes waaaay back to marketing when Clauds Buggies bought a huge pile of them back in the 80s and sold them a s "super cool tins. Gene Berg did some testing and found that in some cases they worked great (higher RPM), and in others not so much (low RPM). Since I'm running a big Header it was easier to use them than to modify the sled tins. I ended up doing that anyways and those are on this motor. I guess we can run them both and see what Temps we get. Thanks for watching!

The only way rockers get loose is lifter vs. cam failure or your rockers are wearing unless it was adjusted wrong .

Do you usually go without a thermostat setup?
@OldVolksTV
@OldVolksTV Жыл бұрын
I haven't had a thermostat or flaps on an engine for years. Lately I've been using the Andrig fixed flaps and I've noticed a big difference in cooling, which I'm more concerned about due to the long drives in hot weather here in Texas.

While you had the head tins off did you check the torque on the heads .

Looks like you went light on the paint. Unless you went with cheap paint... 🤔
@OldVolksTV
@OldVolksTV 2 жыл бұрын
I did more coats than I showed. About a can and a half on the shroud, and the same split between the head tins. It's the good paint, and the automotive clear with ceramic. Also several coats. It should stand up to normal use. I started putting it together too soon, so I got a scratch.

So the flat part of the cylinder tins were cut off? Is that due to the type of manifolds your using for the carbs?
@OldVolksTV
@OldVolksTV 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the intakes are huge and the tops of the heads are shaped different. I'm sure they make tins for these heads but I couldn't find them anywhere when we were shopping. These fit nice and tight so the air should still get where it needs to and when I install Andrigs cooling package we'll have good air volume to keep everything cool.

What paint , primer and clear are you using? Getting ready to do the same for my '71 Bay
@OldVolksTV
@OldVolksTV 2 жыл бұрын
I normally use the engine paints from autozone. Duplicolor I think it's called. Primer, color, clear, and lots of time in between. The more careful you are and if you take your time, it'll come out great.
