Bit of advice on cheap inline spinners: wait for a spring sale. Bass Pro has a pretty basic spinner that retails for $2.99, but they always go on sale right before spring season starts - usually for $0.99. Better spinners can be found, sure, but a budget spinner is effective enough so it's worth keeping an eye out.

@jamescooper26186 жыл бұрын
5 baits I have historically focused on are Mepps Comet Minnow, Rapala Original Minnow, red and white Daredevil, soft plastic grub on jig head, Marabou jig for panfish, Panther Martin spinners for trout. Yes, I know that's 6 but what can ya do? lol.

For a good spinner Bass Pro makes a few spinners that work well and are less than 3 bucks. I catch a lot of bluegills on them.

Spoons are my go-to bait, but not all are created equal. Casting, flutter, and jigging spoons all have a place. Every time I tie on a Gibbs Minnow, I hook into something massive. 1st time was a 20 lb carp. I can't stand inline spinners. I prefer 1/16 oz chatterbaits. It preforms the same task, but the action starts and stops more easily, which comes in handy for rainbow trout, who like to ambush prey. I spent 20 years throwing nothing but spinners, catching nothing but trout. It bores me to tears.

I may have included a bucktail jig

I actually don't have much trouble with the cheap spinners from walmart. I just add a split ring and a better hook and they do alright. I get better action out of my rooster tails and other name brand spinners, but some of the biggest bass I catch I end up catching on tiny off-brand trout spinners. Not even intentionally. I usually switch to them when I'm not having much luck with bass with the intention of catching panfish instead. I'm sure some of the cheapies are duds but I've yet to find one that your average angler couldn't at least work with. And it's hard for me to argue against them when I'm scratching my head wondering why the bigger fish I take wouldn't hit a crankbait but smacked the crap out of a 1/16 ounce spinner.

Nice video. The thing with spinners is,if the makers of them stick to certain blade types,that start spinning easily,it shouldn't matter if they are really cheap or not. I build my own spinners,and certain blades can give you trouble depending on what you use for the lure body,what angle the blade lays,and the length of the blade. Inline blades,the types on panther martins,start extremely easily,and are fun to work with. Ripple blades have to be one of the easiest blades to start spinning,and put off an extremely strong vibration. French blades are easy to work with,the cupped area puts off good strong vibration. Swing blades,like the kind you find on rooster tails,aren't bad either.
@andrewwolf49636 жыл бұрын
sgtpavlov lol if you look at my comment of my top 5 rooster tails was #2. I especially love the over sized white ones because of their ability to catch tiny pan fish and large striped bass and other fish. Fish like a Rat L Trap. Very versatile whether you want a chain Pickerel or pike, or bass or perch

Good list, I'd replace #4 or #5 with the old hair jig. No bait has caught more smallmouth than hairjigs, you can make them look like a minnow or crayfish. get a heddon sonar instead of the johnson model(#5), it will last longer. #3 only use mepps
@walterjackson83126 жыл бұрын
you should do a give away for soft plastics
@dwightstewart71814 жыл бұрын
I don't use soft plastics. Tried them in the past, but they stank up my tackle bag & fell apart at the least little bite. Buying bag after bag gets expensive. I prefer live bait (minnows, worms, crickets, etc). When I do need an artificial, hard lures preform the same tasks as soft plastics with greater reliability.

the clips that you show when talking about a bait kind of blows the credibility because the fish arnt being caught on the bait being talked about. just something i noticed. if you talk about a bait being able to catch fish you should show that not just put random catches on random baits in as filler.
