The BEST boots I ever got and own were the ones my dad had custom made and received almost a year and a half after he was fitted for them. 3 months after he picked them up, he unexpectedly passed away and so I got them. We shared the same 12EE boot size. I’ve owned and wore my prized boots on special occasions ever since and they have more sentimental value for me than anything else. Dad’s Charlie Dunn’s are now mine.

I am so sick of everyone going to web base shopping. I want to go into a store and try a freaking boot on. I don’t want to spend 1-4 months sending boots back and forth to find a fit
@gsdlvr123 Жыл бұрын
We own a horse farm and I must say for the money I think Chisos is BY FAR the best value out there. Lucchese used to be the standard (outside of custom) but now it seems as if Lucchese, even their boots in the $850 and up, are very lacking in quality. They are relying on reputation...I'm a Boomer Gen, so reputation matters but quality will prevail and that is how new reputations are built. As for Tecovas - I gave them a try. I bought my first pair on 7/30/19, I bought 12 or 13 pairs over the next year. 5 were for me (Banderas, Prescott and Cartwright - 3 colors) and the rest as gifts for my wife (Annies and whatever the Ostrich ones are called) and my son (Banderas). We bought a few online and the others at the store in Nashville TN. At first I was impressed with Tecovas, especially for the price point - obviously as I ordered so many so quickly. My wife wears hers very sparingly - when we go dancing - and she likes hers. She has a LOT of boots - high end hand made in TX, Luchesse boots and even some high end customs. She thinks the Tecovas are a bargain, particularly for one you are only going to wear for a few hours. My son is hard on boots around our property, and the Banderas have been OK, to be honest, for an under 300 dollar boot, it held up for almost a year and that is fine. I'm in a suit/sportcoat daily and I wear boots all day every day. I come home and change into jeans and put on another pair of boots - sometimes I leave the same boots on. The Tecovas are not meant to be worn 8-12 hours a day - at least for me. I took several pair to my cobbler to have resoled and he told me every pair had a broken shank. They were not that comfortable after a few months anyway and for my needs I needed better quality. I just told him to repair them and donate them to someone who could use them. I think Tecovas are probably best suited for those that want a fashion boot and is not going to be in them for 8+ hours every day. I have Black Jack boots and they are terrific!! Top notch quality and a LOT of options. I really prefer snip toes , so my options are limited with many makers. I will wear round toes on occasion but can't stand the wide toe (that is also hard for me to get into stirrups - and I do not buy boots that I can't ride in). I have never bought a pair of Rios of Mercedes, and not sure of their toe options, but I have a few friends that LOVE them. I'm looking at trying Heritage Boots, as I like the look of their boots, but they do not offer a military discount (Tecovas, Chisos and BJ all do) and in principal that's kept me from ordering (silly perhaps, but...). I only have one pair of Chisos - the roughout snip toe. I wear them constantly...to ride horses, to work, to dance, etc. I don't think I have another pair of boots that feel as nice as Chisos, I know I do not not have anything under $1K that compares. I'm hoping Chisos eventually offers more snip toes. I'm glad there are so many options out there, and I certainly enjoy your videos - you do a great job.

Just thought I'd add this since you mentioned you ride for a living. I wear an 11 D in Chisos and 11D or EE in Lucchese (handmade) but I needed an 10 1/2 D in the Heritage.

Sturgeon skin boots would be awesome! That fish skin is almost bullet proof. Their skin is boney sharp and prehistoric. I have caught a few and skinning them was a chore. I didn't know you could make boots out of them.
@denisekeary8229 Жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree with your about sturgeon skin being bullet-proof. Sturgeon is in the waters where I live in California. We were under way on my uncle's boat when we heard/felt a "thump thump". Something in the water was hit, but we didn't know what it was until we looked behind the boat and saw a sturgeon surface, and it was a nice one. We ended up catching it, and when my uncle skinned it, the skin was intact, but the meat underneath was torn up where it hit the propellers (this was on a 50-ft. boat).

I commented a couple of months ago - I think Tecovas are fine for a fashion boot or a boot you’re not going to wear for 10-12 hours a day. I know Tecovas has brought a bunch of new boot wearers to the scene and they have some talented influencers working for them. I applaud the marketing department at Tecovas as they have certainly changed the market for folks wearing/considering boots. My wife still likes hers - for fashion. If she's wanting a quality boot for the day, she certainly isn't grabbing the Tecovas. I know some folks will get upset with this comment but while I applaud Tecovas marketing, I fear some of their customers will never wear a nice quality boot because they are being brand loyal while not knowing other brands of much better quality. Since originally commenting I now have 3 pairs of Chisos (all snip toes). I still rank Chisos as the best value boot and much better than the non handmade or custom Lucchese. My Top 5 (off the shelf) Boot Brands (in no particular order): 1. Chisos (Quality and Comfort from the get go...Best value) 2. Black Jack (Great Styles - nice quality) 3. Lucchese Handmades (Classic...quality has gone down hill but handmades are still nice) 4. Heritage (Very interesting /retro styled boots... without compromising quality...in addition, their Apache Oiled leather boot is an ABSOLUTELY terrific boot for working with horses) 5. Rios of Mercedes (simply a great quality boot)
@scooter594011 ай бұрын
Fine. But Chisos only makes a few boot styles, and every boot brand you mention is over $500, some well over. That’s a small, high-end segment of the market. You may as well try to tell the world they are missing out by not driving a Porsche every day. As far as Tecovas, it is far more than just clever marketing. They make a solid - if not high end - boot, in many styles and colors at a fair price. It’s no wonder they have had fast success.
@gsdlvr12311 ай бұрын
If Tecova boots work for you , that’s great. They do not work for me and my lifestyle. I’m certainly different than most consumers (of boots) as I own a horse farm and I’m old (actually a Boomer Generation) - been wearing boots for all my life. I’m in boots from very early (3:30 am this morning) till I go to bed at night. I consider the brands I mentioned to be great value boots. Porsche makes a great sports car, I don’t consider it a great value, but I wouldn’t equate that to boots. I believe if you are buying boots to USE , then the better value is a boot that is top quality and while initially more expensive that boot will stand the test of time and in the long run be a better value. There are certainly a lot of boots that are very expensive and not a great value. As I said my wife likes her few pairs of Tecova boots. That boot fits a fashion need but when they wear out I won’t spend money putting on new soles/conditioning the inside, I’ll just tell her : let’s go boot shopping.
