I love your videos. Full of well thought out advice and ideas, and your delivery is great to listen to. No waffling! I often go to Fabworks with my sister who lives nearby, although I live in London. I bought a lot of beautiful brushed cotton to make winter dresses. It’s a fantastic store. I make my own swimsuits and really struggle to find prints I like, so I may try the Etsy ones you mentioned, if I’m feeling flush. Shame they’re so far away.

Videos like these are such a gift. I live in an area without access to any kind of apparel or drapery fabric. Don't get me wrong, I like quilting cotton as much as the next person, but I don't want a wardrobe made of it. Thank you so much for sharing these gems! Bookmarked and checking them out this evening!

Dot from UK Hi Steph, well done for creating such a beautiful channel. I used to make all my own clothes but more into mixed media art now, I am 72 and have all the clothes I need, that doesn't mean to say I won't watch your videos in the future. I most certainly will. Well, the fabrics are a piece of art aren't they? Your blouse is exquisite, from the fabric to the style and it suits you. Look forward to seeing more of what you have to offer. Lots of love from the UK, Dot x, and good luck for future.

Great video Steph. Stitch Fabrics are great - they exhibit/sell at Malvern Quilt Show and I go just to buy their dressmaking fabric. The father and son run the stall and when they saw me approach a few weeks ago they waved at me and were very chatty because they recognised the fabric I was wearing from a previous visit. Lovely family! You have certainly done your homework. Sue x

Adore that pink wool coat. Recently I came across a video that demonstrates an invisible mending technique that I would never have thought of in a hundred years. I assume, that like me, you keep your scraps. The video is titled "Invisible mending expensive vintage trousers (we saved them)" and it is put up by "Downtown Tailoring". Looks time consuming, but worth the trouble for that coat.

I’ve bought from Stitch Fabrics a few times and have always been more than happy with the fabric and overall shopping experience. Amongst the fabric I picked up a couple of years ago are several Lycra jerseys in stunning prints that turned out to be John Kaldor designs, they’re really interesting in terms of texture and were only £2 a metre and there’s some still there at that price! Some of their wool is lovely and I agree about the panel prints, they’re definitely where it’s at if you want to make a statement piece!

Hi new subscriber from Canada here. I have been settling into retirement for the last year and I am slowly but surely getting ready to start sewing again. This was a great and useful video. I love to wear linen in the summer, and I am looking for a good source for affordable, quality linen. So far, the sources that I found had limited colour options and prices were quite high. Also, I found that information on fabric weight is not optimal, so you are never certain if the fabric will work for a specific project. Any recommendations? Also, your 70's style floral (the one with the daisies) at the end of your video just made my day. Not only did my grandma had similar bed sheets in her home back then, I actually thrifted some unused bedsheets with an almost identical print, which I made into a comforter cover for my daughter's bedroom when she was a toddler. So pretty!
@StephSewn Жыл бұрын
Ah I love that the floral inspired a nice memory! Alas, I'm not sure about linen in Canada other than Blackbird Fabrics.

I am forever jealous if people who live in the UK. I live in Belgium and fabric shops are not common. There are some but they don't really have a point of view and many sell the same brands of fabrics. BUT I did find two amazing places I order from regularly: Wasted fabrics (amazing deadstock) and The Fabric sales (designer fabrics from Essentiel Antwerp and Dries van Noten)

Tip: spoonflower is horrible. Blurred printed spandex. Every fabric I received lost their pattern and looked ridiculous with all of the white coming through. My package also took a really long to arrive in America.
@StephSewn Жыл бұрын
Honestly am sorry to say I had the SAME experience! Really expensive, and the quality was not good. I got a bunch of printed cotton spandex and it faded so badly after just a few washes. It's a shame given so many great designers on the platform.

I love your channel and I subscribed. I will look for you on Instagram. I am 72 and have just revived my sewing hobby.
