I think I'm pretty careful with my words - "I'm not super-skinny, it's not about being super-skinny". I'm really NOT super-skinny - I'm not "average" but I have the healthiest BMI possible and am fit, healthy and toned. I eat well and am trying to encourage a healthy attitude to eating and health that is the diametrically opposed to leading to any erroneous body perceptions! I always take on feedback but think that your comment undermines the very message I intend to give out,
@RuthCrilly11 жыл бұрын
I'm a large UK10, most models are far smaller than me. So I'd think that being skinny means being much skinnier than what I am, hence my comment at the start of the video. Makes perfect sense to those who listen..

Hi Ruth! Just a little tip - I haven't had milk for 7 years now and I find that Koko Dairy Free Milk+Calcium is VERY good with porridge. I have it every morning, less sugary than alpro hazelnut/almond drinks and full of vitamins. Absolutely delicious. Another thing for me slicing up fruit to add to your water to make it tasty, coconut water to stay hydrated and frozen bananas added to porridge, smoothies or blended instead of icecream ;) Never throw ripe bananas away! lots of love xx

I just discovered the deliciousness of dates this weekend as well! It is such a perfect treat to replace my endless after-dinner cookie cravings. Another great healthy snack that I LOVE is organic peanut butter or almond butter on a rice cake. It hits the spot for a savory snack, and is lighter than toasting a piece of bread instead. Sometimes I'll add some banana slices or honey or jam to make it a little sweeter or more filling too.

I really need the positivity you're giving in your vid, Ruth. I'm struggling so much with my weight; following a ruptured disc in my spine I'm on massive amounts of meds (which make me crave sweets) & has 'helped' me gain weight. Also, I can't exercise as normal til my spine recovers. All this has resulted in me feeling low & negative. But just found your vid & think I can include some tips into my diet/routine which might help me. Thanks Ruth for giving me back some of my positive outlook. xx

OMG i totally agree about the dates! I used to think they looked like cockroaches and avoided them, BUT my friend showed me the BEST sweet tooth snack: dates with natural peanut butter (the kind you get at organic markets where they actually crush down a bunch of peanuts (no extra sugar or anything added)). Sooo good :)

You should try oats drinks or milk with your porridge. I had a milk allergy but really loved a cup of milk a day and oats milk tastes almost like the real thing, but has no lactose whatsoever, plus it's also cheaper than almond milk.

I also cut out milk and porridge was one of the things I couldn't live without and I really hated the Aplro milk taste. Then a friend put me on to Koko dairy free milk and I love it! Its not quite as good in tea, but with something like porridge its great - I actually prefer it to real milk. Its lactose, soya and gluten free. I get mine from Sainsburys (where the UHT milk normally is) hope this helps somebody.

Thank you SO MUCH for doing this video Ruth. I love it. I gave up all dairy (but eat butter) and my acne is much better. Still lots of scarring, but am spreading the word about dairy. Now Im focusing on getting a wide variety of fruits and vegetables to heal my skin. You are so motivating! Im going to try the dates and the puy lentils!! : ) Apricots have been my favorite so far. Also, Im glad you dont like soy. Ive been reading up on the estrogen like effects. Which =acne! So its best to avoid!

I also try to replace sweets with dried fruits, and dates are my favourite. Try figs, they are very intriguing since they have a little seeds inside them and they kind of "pop" between your teeth... I like that. Cranberry is also really nice, especially they also help to release all the excess water so they are good if one has those problems while having a period.
@Katiekatiekatie2811 жыл бұрын
I gave up fizzy drinks around two months ago and drink water or squash instead. Definitely need to find a replacement for sweets and chocolate but at uni it is so easy to buy as it is so readily available and I have rubbish will power! My fridge has a inbuilt water filter dispenser and it does make drinking water a novelty! Guess it is how the mind works! Thanks for the ideas!

Great video Ruth. I also have a massive sweet tooth. I keep some sugar-free chocolates in the kitchen when I'm really craving something sweet (usually after dinner). Also, I like to make cookies using almond flour instead of regular flour (basically finely ground almonds) and maple syrup instead of white refined sugar... with some carob chips it tastes like peanut butter chocolate chip cookies but much healthier! Lentils make a great soup too.

I switched my regular pasta for a whole grain ( I don't eat it too often), also a lots of salads to go with lean meat (chicken, turkey etc.) and fish. Nuts are also a great nutrient filled with lots of good fats and vitamins (you can add roasted nuts to salads etc.or as a midday snack). Leafy greens, beetroots and veggies in general are great. When I want something sweet - sorbet ice cream, few calories yet delicious!xx

Ruth, there's not only hazelnut, almond or soy milk! You could try coconut milk (the one in the carton, not the can!), hemp seed milk, quinoa milk, sesame milk, rice milk, there are so many alternatives! There's even black bean milk! Surprisingly tasty although maybe not for porridge. My two favourite are coconut and rice milk. And I love making my own almond milk (soaked almonds blended with water and then drained). That's my go to for porridge as it gives it a nice nutty taste!

I know what you mean about the water, sometimes it just gets a little boring so I'll add fruit slices and sometimes spices to it. You can do so much more than just as citrus fruits too, cucumber works really well and it makes a super refreshing drink. I only drink water and tea now, I gave up diet drinks and such a few years ago and would never want to go back to them, I feel so much better now. Oh, I like to use non-fat Greek yogurt on my cereal and oatmeal :) Thanks for all the ideas!

Hi Ruth, I had some skin problems myself and I stopped reducing the dairy in my diet. Not using regular milk, but still eating cheese. It seems like a big trend at the moment. xx

Coconut milk comes in a variety of consistencies and is a fantastic sub for milk/cream in cereal, coffee, and cooking (thicker consistency coconut milk makes yummy "cream" sauces). Plus it has many more health benefits than nut milks. Also, I use a julienne peeler on zucchini (larger zucchinis work better) to replace pasta. I was VERY skeptical the first time I tried it but I haven't purchased pasta since. The texture is surprisingly pasta-like and it soaks up sauce beautifully!

I agree with you on the milk acne problem! I used to get breakouts on my chin(lasted for 3 years!). I then read something about milk having hormone because cows have hormone injected into them? So I decided to stop having tea & coffee each morning for a month. I then had a cup of coffee again & ended up with a spot the next morning. Now I have soy and my skin has been clear for the last week. Never been happier to see a clear face each morning!

in the states we have what’s called green tea soda, which is cold green tea with fizzy water and some all natural flavorings, some of them taste a bit weird but a couple of them are pretty good. It’s tons better for you than soda, and if you find a good flavor you forget you’re having tea.

I really like your videos! Have you tried substituting pasta with spagetti squash or grated zukini (can use a spiralizer if you have one). Also, I do find these nuts drinks 'bearable' as you said. The taste is not so incredible and they do have sugar in it too. I think I will try an alternative which might be more tasty.
